  1. Interesting replies to the item that I posted here in August 2017, well over a year ago. I note Augeas' comments but as PTpc points out, other disk utilities can manage to report SMART for USB-connected drives. Utilities such as Crystal Disk Info and Argus Monitor can do it perfectly well; why can't Speccy? And echoing PTpc's point that Speccy should not display a SMART table if it will contain invalid and misleading data. I dropped in here to advise Piriform that Bob Rankin has just published one his excellent articles about PC care and maintenance and that I posted a comment there pointing out this particular Speccy bug. Just thought Piriform should be aware of the poor publicity. https://askbobrankin.com/hard_drives_is_yours_smart_enough.html
  2. I tried again, using a different PC, one running Sophos antivirus, and attempted to download Speccy 1.31 from the Piriform website (not FileHippo) and immediately got a Sophos pop-up to say "High Risk Website Blocked - Access to this page is blocked as the threat Mal/HTMLGen-A has been found on this website. " I think Piriform have some questions to answer, irrespective of the compiler used. Speccy version 1.29 seems safe to use. Andavari? Comments please?
  3. I downloaded the current Speccy installer spsetup131.exe from ccleaner.com today (19 Feb 2018) and immediately got a notification from AVG antivirus that it was infected with malware (Rootkit-gen). I reported it to AVG as a false positive but you guys may wish to double-check and maybe liaise with AVG.
  4. If you run Speccy when you have an external hard drive connected via USB, either a dedicated backup device or a hard drive from another machine connected via an adaptor, the SMART data displayed by Speccy for the external HDD is not that for the drive, but from the internal HDD of the PC. I took a snapshot of the Speccy output to upload as evidence of this bug, but got a message: "You aren't permitted to upload this kind of file". Instead, I have pasted screenshots into a Word docx so you can see that the data presented for a 1TB external Toshiba disk is identical to that for the internal 2TB Seagate drive. But I can't upload a DOCX file either!! Finally managed to send you two images in PNG format. Why does it have to be so hard? Chris
  5. Tom, I tried the revised version of 5.24 (8376 kB) that you mentioned earlier and it failed to install on Win 10 Home Insider Preview 1607 build 14955.1000 (yes, I know it's not supported but this is the next Win 10 version in development, fast track release and the info might be useful to you.) First I got a pop-up saying: Windows protected your PC Windows SmartScreen prevented an unrecognised application from starting. Running this application might put your PC at risk. More info Application: C:\Users\User\Downloads\ccsetup524.exe Publisher: GB, London, London, Piriform Ltd, Piriform Ltd Run anyway Don't run When I clicked on Run Anyway and gave the OK to the next screen, I got another error: NSIS Error Installer integrity check has failed. Common causes include incomplete download and damaged media.Contact the installer's owner to obtain a new copy. More information at http://nsis.sf.net?NSIS_Error I tried again with a freshly downloaded version and got the same result. CCleaner v5.22 still installs OK. Chris
  6. Hi Tom, The screen displayed what I put in my post. However, I looked at the Event Viewer logfiles and in the Security log I found the following: Log Name: Security Source: Microsoft-Windows-Security-Auditing Date: Tue 15.11.16 17:24:53 Event ID: 5038 Task Category: System Integrity Level: Information Keywords: Audit Failure User: N/A Computer: HP-G70 Description: Code integrity determined that the image hash of a file is not valid. 7. I downloaded CCleaner 5.24 to update from v5.22 running on Windows 10 Insider Preview version 1607 (OS Build 14955.1000). I get an error message as follows: This app can't run on your PC To find a version for your PC, check with the software publisher. Version 5.22 runs OK but I can't install v5.23 either. Same error message.
  8. I've just joined this forum in order to report this same bug! I see this SMART data error on several machines where an external HDD is attached via a USB adaptor. The data reported for the external hard drive is identical to that for the internal hard drive. I'm a little disappointed to note that no one from Piriform appears to have responded to this bug report so far, after six months.
