I have a very weird situation going on with my wife's PC...
Background:
She's a photographer so she keeps many "in process" work on her desktop.
She is using windows 10 in Spanish but some other photo editing software in English (i mention this because i'm afraid the issue has something to do with the windows users file structure) .
Actual problem:
Everything started when she told me a folder just disappeared from her desktop, I told her "folders just don't disappear" and decided to take a look, did a windows search, tried searching in file explorer, unhiding files and folders, etc. and that folder was nowhere to be found, so I looked for some software to recover lost files, found good reviews about Recuva and decided to try it.
I started using the wizard and selected the desktop folder (shown in Recuva in English as C:\Users\USERNAME\Desktop ) and as soon as I clicked to start the scan i saw all the desktop files disappear, just gone! I thought the computer got stuck or it was being refreshed or something but no, all the files were gone. I could only see the shortcuts for the default windows and some additional programs.
When I go to the file explorer, the file structure is in Spanish desktop being "C:\Usuarios\USERNAME\Escritorio" and the folder is completely empty, what i'm seeing right now as a desktop is actually the contents of "C:\Usuarios\Acceso Publico\Escritorio Publico" which is the equivalent in Spanish of C:\Users\Public\Desktop it looks like the user desktop got replaced by the public desktop so I still have some hope that I can fix this.
At the end of the scan Recuva found a lot of the files but the original folder I wanted to recover...
I have not been able to find the solution to something like this online, I made emphasis on the languages because I have a feeling it might have something to do with that...
