  1. Apologies for not being around the past few days. Been busy, places to go, people to see !!! After a few days of the updated app, I think it has 'settled down'. If I get the hard disk request, it only comes once a day, if that. The only outstanding questions I have now is that on the Outstanding Apps, firstly it doesn't give a list of them it just goes straight into update and tells you which ones have been done. There maybe a case where one doesn't want an app updated and would wish to refuse. There is only one app that it is trying to update, that is Thunderbird. The manufacturers, Mozilla, sent through an update when it was released. I don't know why CC is trying to update it again. I just cancel it.
  2. Update: when I got home (and finished watching EastEnders(!), I switched on CCleaner. First couple of times it tried to save to my hard disk. Then the program ran and did a Health Check. When this finished it said I had 2 outdated apps (I am sure it was 4 earlier today). They both took a long time to update, but finally finished. They were Adobe Acrobat Reader DC Continuous…. and Apple Mobile Device Support …. Unfortunately I didn’t note the previous ones. Tomorrow I will see what happens when I run the program. If it still wants to install on the hard disk, now it has updated, should I remove the program and download it again? Many thanks for your help nukecad. I think for all the years I have been running the program, I have never had any previous problems!
  3. I came in about an hour ago. Firstly it took some time updating to v.6.23. (after several requests to update on my hard disk!). The resolving issues is working s-l-o-w-l-y! I need to go out again, so will have to cancel it and start again later/tomorrow.
  4. I haven't tried the 'Outdated Apps', but still get the messages about wanting to update my hard disk, and even though I click 'yes' nothing happens! Normally when it updates, it does it in the background and I get a message that the program has been updated. I will try it later. If I turn off notifications, might I miss something important, not only from CCleaner but other programs?
  5. Hello again nukecad Is there any news about the fix for outdated apps, and also the message asking me to update my hard disk?
  6. LOL re making a rubbish bin It's as if it is AI that is putting rubbish in there to be cleaned. Gives it something to do!
  7. Hi again nukecad It was using Tools / Software Updater as you suggested earlier. I clicked 'Update selected' (all 4 were pre-selected anyway, but again nothing happened. Anyway, I may as well wait until the fix, which I presume will come in the usual way and then follow that through. Thank you for your help. Oh, I have just remembered something else! When it is cleaning, it tells me that it has removed files from Internet Explorer. I never use that, I am on Firefox. Maybe one of my programs is using IE somewhere in the background?
  8. Thanks nukecad. I will give it a try. I wondered also about the message about trying to do something on the hard disk. Would you advise, in either case, to uninstall CCleaner and then reinstall it? I have just tried to Tools option and it still hangs. Obviously I will have to wait for the fix.
  9. It must be the latest version of CCleaner that when I have finished a health check, it tells me that there are some outdated apps. I click on it, but nothing happens. If after leaving it for c.10mins it still hasn't moved, I then press Cancel. That just holds there and does nothing - in the end I have to crash out of it. Maybe connected but I am also getting a message that CCleaner wants to install on my hard drive, presumably a new version (previously it is updated in the background and when I next run it, it shows the latest version. Anyway, it asks me if I will let it modify my hard disk. I click 'yes' and the message disappears but nothing happens. I know I am running an old version of Windows (Win 7). Could that be a problem? CCleaner has been running without a problem for several years. Anybody out there got some suggestions? Thanks in anticipation.
  10. LOL I hung on to my WinXP far longer than I should. It was only when my mate was going to live in Australia he was clearing everything out of his house, including his old computer. As Win7 was (slightly) newer than my one I took it. Like you if I wanted to get a new PC, I have software on here that I would need to move, let alone data. I think I would have to take it to a shop to transfer everything across, safely, unless I can find a trusted mate who I know would be up to do it. This machine does fail me at times. Goes to 'not responding' and have to wait for it to come back to life. CCleaner does help, because it gets rid of a lot of the junk files that clutter up the machine.

  12. I have been using CC for years (free version) but just signed up for the Pro edition. I always run both HC and CC (and any other options it will let me!). I am really a novice at these sort of things. I just follow the instructions ! I used to always run CC first, then HC, but lately I have reversed it. I don't know why! One thing I have found is if I remove the site data and disk space from Firefox and Thunderbird respectively from the browsers, it speeds up CC as there isn't so much to check. One other thing. Should I reboot after using CC ? Thanks for your help.

  14. Guys. Thanks for all your help. Finally got round today to looking at it again. I unistalled AVG and Avast. Tried to download CCleaner 5.40 - didn't download, nor did 5.41 or 5.44 !!! It pops up with the screen thanking me for downloading it (from Filehippo), but nothing is coming through. I am now in the process of reinstalling Avast. I think I will have to regularly check Firefox to clear the cache and downloads, and use the defrag more often .... unless someone can think of anything better, but CCleaner just doesn't want to know me !!
  15. Imacri. My version of Firefox is 52.9.0. I never use IE. In fact when I launched it - it crashed! mta/Nergal I went to builds to download 'portable', and it downloaded a zip file, (for 5.44) which I extracted. It ran and then immediately crashed again on 'Run'. Went back to filehippo again for 5.40. Stopped the video; although I got the 'Thank you for downloading', nothing downloaded!! Do I give up and go home?! BTW What about my query re Avast (above) Is it safe to use it to fix things ? Maybe this might be my problem? Finally, the debug program you mentioned , mta. Where it says 'start - run' is that from the DOS command or the 'search' box? Thanks for your help, guys.
  16. Having been untied (!!)I have just got round to reading your notes, mta. I went to filehippo to download v.5.40, clicked on it, but nothing has downloaded, but nothing is actually downloading ? I get the message about watching the video while downloading and then 'Thank you for Downloading', but nothing seems to have come through? Tried the latest version and the same? Shall I just give up and go home?! BTW Avast tells me there are things that need fixing, e.g. Broken registry items, PC health problems. Can you or someone else tell me if it is trustworthy that it won't do something else to my system that will cost a fortune to fix?! Or would running this may resolve my other problems?

  19. Okay, I reinstalled it today (having removed previous downloads). Same problem. It analyzes okay, but when I try to run the program it crashes. Presumably it is pointless filling in the crash report form again. It is version 5.44 - slim build that I downloaded.

  21. Can anyone give me any further help? When I started up the machine today, it told me that CCleaner had crashed! I don't want this to happen everytime I start up, so I have uninstalled it.
  22. Good news / bad news ! I installed the slimbuild version (what is missing from the main version?). I ran the Analyze, which worked alright, and then ran the Run Cleaner and each time it crashed. I tried a couple of times, re-booted the laptop but it still crashed (I sent in a report).

  24. I have removed AVG. After rebooting, I tried the installer again. I saw no sign of a tick box. It is the installer that seems stop c.95%. I then get a message from Windows saying they are looking for a solution. It then asks me to close the dialogue box, saying it will inform me if it has found a solution. It never does!
  25. Hi Nergal I don't have a resident malware program in use, but tend to run Malawarebytes every couple of months (always clean). However what I do have is two anti-virus programs. AVG and Avast. I remember installing AVG, but don't recall putting on Avast. Could this be the problem, and if so should I remove one of the AV programs?
