  1. Yes the version numbers shown, although the same, are being parsed differently for some reason, it does sometimes happen with some softwares depending on how the version number is stored internally.
    I've flagged this particular one up for someone to take a look at.

    Obviously if you don't run Software Updater it won't bother you.

    With Health Check though it runs automatically, and so after the analyze but before 'Make it Better' you will need to click on the 'Security' box and unselect it to prevent Health Check trying to update it.
    Alternatively you could go offline before running Health Check, if there is no internet connection then it can't try to do it.

    Or use Custom Clean rather than Health Check, that Just cleans what you have set it to and doesn't run the Software Updater (or 'Startup').

    WinMerge is used to compare files in different versions of applications developed in/for Windows.

    Both are primarily tools that would be used by a developer, or possibly a system mechanic.

    CCleaner is finding them on your machine and saying there are newer versions than the ones that you already have installed.

    If you didn't put them there yourself then have you ever had the machine in for repair, or maybe given a "tech support" remote access to your machine? They may have put them there while working and not uninstalled them when finished.

  3. You can set exclusions in Duplicate Finder - but it's probably easier just to ignore them if they are not your own files.
    See the NOTE below.

    If you right-click on one of the files found then a context menu will pop up where you will be given a choice to 'Exclude >'
    If you hover over that then you can add an exclusion for the directory, right down from C: to the directory containing the actual duplicate.

    Usually you'll want to exclude just the directory containg the duplicate file, that directory will then be ignored in future searches.

    Here is an example:
    I set a search on filename only for "C:\Programme files\*.*" and it found 3 instances of 'uninst.exe' for different CCleaner products - CCleaner, Defraggler, & Speccy.
    I right-clicked on the one for 'Defraggler' and made the Defraggler directory an exclusion.

    I then went back and ran the search again; as you can see here this time the uninstaller for Defraggler was ignored:

    NOTE that there is no easy way to undo such an exclusion in the Duplicate Finder, once an exclusion has been set for Duplicate Finder it remains in force.
    The only way I have found to remove such a DF exclusion is to delete the settings file "C:\program Files\CCleaner\ccleaner.ini", (or manually edit it if you undertand the ini file syntax).
    Deleting 'ccleaner.ini' will reset CCleaner to it's default settings, so you'll then have to set all your ticks/unticks for Custom Clean and all your other custom settings up again.
    Like i say - it's probably easier just to ignore the duplicate results if they are not your own files.

     

  4. What type of files were/are they?

    It could be because the files are protected or need admin permission to delete, for example system files.
    Many system files do need duplicates and you should normally set the duplicate finder to ignore system files:

    If they were your own files then it's more likely that they could not be deleted because they were open.
    That will happen if you had opened the files to check which duplicate to keep and which not, and hadn't closed them again.

  5. Sometimes it's just like that and they can't be moved, or Windows won't let them be moved.
    Especialy with the Operating System disc which is what you are showing there.

    TBH it doesn't make any difference, modern discs are fast enough that loading times won't be affected by more than a millisecond or so.
    And you have plenty of freespace there.

    PS. You may have noticed that the Windows built in Defregmenter/Optimiser no longer shows a drive map like that, that's partly to stop people wasting their time trying to achieve the 'Holy Grail' of a solid block of blue squares at the start, it's hardly ever achieveable except perhaps with a brand new disc. (or possibly a non-OS drive formated as FAT/FAT32/exFAT).

  6. And that is the problem with Majorgeeks and similar sites.

    To try and be 'first past the post' they give links to non-released (beta) versions rather than waiting for the official release.

    And often, as in this case, that is not a good idea because it's not ready for release yet.

    Conclusion: don't download/install anything from 'hot off the  press' websites like majorgeeks - sometimes they grab it befote it even got off the press and it's still unfinished.

  7. It does sound like an issue with the AV.

    Try making sure that it is up to date.

    Tip - Check their website, we have often seen AV's report that they are 'up-to-date' when in fact there is a later version on the website. (It's the definitions that are up-to-date and not the AV itself).

    Agreed that that has to be the general advice - with a very few exceptions as you already noted.

  9. And of course there is also a very slight chance that you notice the delete mistake and manage to do a recovery before a TRIM has been carried out.

    That will depend partly on your Windows optimisation settings.

    eg. Although scheduled for a weekly analysis this particular laptop SSD has not been retrimmed for 15 days, so some recovery of accidentally deleted files from the last 15 days might be possible:

  10. If it is less than 90 days remaining on the old licence AND you have used the same email address for both then the remaining time gets added to the new licence automatically.

    That happens twice a day so give it a day to see it showing in your CCleaner.

    If it's more than 90 days left or if you used a different email then contact support (give them both emails) and ask for a 'licence merge'.

    Not particularly,

    Although the AV version doesn't update, AVs update their definitions daily, (ie what they look for and what they will block), the better ones do it multiple times daily to keep up with 'threats' as they develop in the real world.

    If an AV developer decides that nothing should access or change things in a particular location, and blocks access to it, then that also affects everything legitimate that tries to access that location or change/delete things there.
    And sometimes they do overreach themselves and block things that they shouldn't realy be blocking - that's known as a False Positive.

    However in this case TM Apex One may have only just started doing what it should have been doing all along.
    I'm only guessing here but I suspect that TM Apex has decided they don't want anything 'user installed' that gives itself elevated user privileges on an endpoint.
    And  of course CCleaner needs elevated privileges to clean things properly.
    Really your system manager should be using/providing either CCleaner Business or CCleaner Cloud versions on endpoints, the CCleaner Home version is not designed to be used on endpoints.
    (Just like you have TM Apex One for endpoints, which is different to TM for home use).

  12. This is realy odd, especially with it being intermittent.

    Can you check that both of these exist and that the folder is empty:
    %Userprofile%\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\{profile-ID}\bookmarkbackups\
    %Userprofile%\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\{profile-ID}\places.sqlite

    (If Firefox is open there should also be places.sqlite-shm and places.sqlite-wal as well).

    I'm still wondering if the Developer edition is saving the current bookmarks in a different place than the Standard edition does.

    The fact that this only started happening to you recently would seem to suggest that it's tied in with clearing of 'Bookmark Backups' being added to Custom Clean - but there is obviously something more than that going on, or as I said everyone wth Standard Firefox would also be shouting about losing their bookmarks.

    The difference does seem to be that you are using the Developer edition, but just why that should make a difference I don't know.

    PS. I don't think that the Firefox Developer edition is available on the Microsoft Store, but just to cover the bases you do get it direct from Mozilla?

    In the meantime I'll shout this thread for staff attention to make them aware that there may be a possible issue.
