  1. When I analyze for a custom clean there are 100s of files (more than on my usual Firefox in number and total size) and some cookies found under Chromium Edge( TBH I didn't even know I had Chromium Edge - I can't see it in programmes -  I guess it must have been installed as part of a Windows update). I've never used Edge or Chromium Edge(which I can't even find)  so how can they store internet  cache, cookies etc?

  2. It is lying to you,

perhaps because it is hiding stuff that you have not enabled,

perhaps because you need admin authority,

    perhaps .....

Did you do what I did in post #6 - Yes or No ?

Did you see a list of files listed - Yes or No ?

Yes i can do that and thanks I understand a lot more but I still feel CC only intermittently finds all the temp internet files as files that should be on the list aren't always there

  3. To find the exact path:

    1. Right click the IE desktop icon and select 'Properties'

    2. With Properties open, and in the General (tab) look at 'Browsing history' and click 'Settings', the path will display under 'Current location'

Just done that and at the 'current location' it says 'this folder is empty' , likewise if I click 'view files' under 'Settings' there is a single TMP file of 0byte - yet CC analysis says there are 545 files totalling 13,455kb

  4. What you have posted as a bug topic is just one of the results of how Windows was thrown together.

Windows does what Windows wants to do,

and that includes dumping in Temp Internet files stuff that is not due too browsing with IE9.

I can't even find where Temporary Internet Files are stored on my computer, if I go to C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files\ there are only ever the same 4 8kb files all with 'favicon' in the name, and NeroPhotoSnapViewer.Files9.ico as the type, where the hell are they all that CCleaner finds?

  5. It also matters what you have your Temporary Internet Files cache size set to, for instance if it's too low then Internet Explorer might start getting rid of stuff on its own during a long browsing session that fills up the cache, and thus CCleaner doesn't have as much to clean.

It' s always set on same 250MB, but what i've described doesnt seem to be affected by file size

  6. I use internet in a smilar manner each day, pc has vista. Sometimes when I later analyse with ccleaner there are ~1000 of these files and sometimes ~50. I'm wondering if some temp int files are not always recognised by ccleaner? Also if I search for files using %temp% there are only a few there - even less than shown on ccleaner, likewise when I look via tools>internet options>settings>view files. So I'm at a loss to understand this

  7. I suggest that you "Analyze" and double click on ONE result.

That will show details of that ONE item and has a button "View Summary Results" - DO NOT CLICK THE BUTTON.

Click "Analyze" again and you will have a list of details of ALL items.

Right click on that list and use the Context Menu item "Save to text file...",

and note down the name of the file and its path.

Now click "Run Cleaner" and the details of cleaned items will appear.

Right click on that list of details and use the Context Menu item "Save to text file...",

and note down the name of the file and its path.

You now have two text files, one showing the Analyze Results and one showing the CLEANED Results.

There should be clues available to you when you compare those results side by side.

A typical cause of discrepancy is when ANALYZE targets an item several times over for different reasons,

    e.g.

it is selected by an "Include" that you have defined; and/or

It is selected by WinApp2.ini; and/or

It is selected by CCleaner.exe code as a result of "THIS" registry key; and/or

It is selected by CCleaner.exe code as a result of "THAT" registry key; and/or

    etc. etc...

Every time that item is targeted that "hit" is added to the total of results.

During RUN CLEANER that item is added to the results as it is zapped,

and when CCleaner advances through its list of potential targets and reaches that item once more,

that item will not be present for any further zapping and so it will not be counted multiple times.

Thanks, I think its the multiple counting of an item that explains it
