  1. Yep, it can do that for some devices for some people on some versions. its a ridiculously long running bug with both ccleaner and defraggler with no resolution in sight.
  2. @nate - nice little Ned Kelly avatar thing going on there... by design or by chance? as to Why? - sometimes with computers you just have to accept that things work out like that. you'll do your head in trying to figure it out, although it's nice to know why as that'll help the next time it turns pear-shaped.
  3. I never have Restore Points turned on, so never been an issue. @sethm - you aren't defragging your SSD are you?
  4. Catergories is the section group where you tick Everything. and good job on doing a backup - I would say "it's about time" but it's only too late if you needed one and didn't have one - so well done on dodging that particular bullet.
  5. I too used to use reg cleaners as part of my routine weekly/monthly maintenance regime. and like you, one day it eventually bit me on the bum. in short, reg cleaning is just not needed any more - hasn't been for a long time - especially with the ever moving goal posts that is Win10, reg clean makers just aren't keeping up. and yes you may say "of course they would say that" but here is the official word from MS; https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/2563254/microsoft-support-policy-for-the-use-of-registry-cleaning-utilities in a nutshell, they is no speed or space improvement to be gained.
  6. sounds like he may be on the wrong side of the grass. thanks for those links Andavari, I've only ever bothered with MVPS, may be time to use those others now.
  7. @kuktar, it may surprise you that Devs have never posted on this forum to my knowledge and Mods are simply forum housekeepers and in no way are Piriform lackies, in fact, you'll find we are their biggest critics. So yes, you'll find us jumping right onto any rule breaches - that's our job! and Yes, the Admin staff very often remain silent when a quick response would help smooth troubled waters, but for reasons that defy my logic, they do not use this forum as the user interaction medium it could be.

    CPU temp not shown

check if there is a BIOS update for that motherboard.
  9. Another classic Piriform feature and GUI redesign no one asked for and will be forced upon the user base.
  10. CCleaner and Defraggler for many years now have both had issues detecting SSDs correctly. every now and then they will wrongly report your drive type, either as HDD or SSD when it is the other. it has been reported to Admins multiple times, they have even commented on the matter once or twice. there has been no official word on any sort of fix.
  11. I’ve had this conversation a couple of years ago with the Admins and from memory the answer was No. for some reason they seem the serial number important enough and all you need. it was just another reason people go looking for other software that does do what they want.
  12. potential attempt at sarcasm perhaps?
  13. have you tried adding CC to a whitelist or exemptions in Nortons?
  14. g'day swbnb and welcome. what suggestions have you tried? what error are you getting? have you tried this; uninstall your current version first. then go into the Program Files folder for CC and delete its contents (keep the .ini file if you have customised settings) download the latest build from here; https://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/builds (or use FileHippo for previous versions) reboot the PC then install CC from your downloaded file. if you need to convert this Free version to the Pro, go to Options > About and enter your license key. if no luck, try the install with the PC in Safe Mode. or try the Slim or Portable builds to see if they work.
  15. g'day KorSiz and welcome to the forums. sorry, going to have to completely disagree on this one. -1 from me. personally I hate all drive updater programs - I have seen many and ALL are nothing more than snake-oil peddlers. disregarding the ones that are purely designed to spread malware, the others often just make things worse. the best driver updater is already on your system - Windows! just let Windows Updates do its job, it'll get there eventually. with the Piriform name and the CC software currently being in the state it is, I really hope they sort their current issues out first before venturing into new features.
  16. unlike other forums you may be familiar with, this one doesn't have that option.:(
  17. It's completely compatible with SSDs. the thing to watch with SSDs is the over-use of high I/O programs, so if you had any concerns, simply run CC less frequently. and yes, avoid Reg cleaners under Windows 10. Simply no need unless you are troubleshooting actual problems. From a maintenance view point, you'll achieve no performance gain.
  18. the trouble with SMART data is each manufacturer follows their own standards. so a threshold on a Western Digital can be different on a Seagate drive. I looked into this about a year ago now and from memory even the ID categories were not standardised.
  19. no not dead (yet) just not responded to by anyone in authority to do so. as you have gathered, disregard what Speccy is telling you, this is a long, long, soooo long, an issue that you might as well 1) assume it will never be addressed and 2) wonder what else in Speccy it is getting wrong.
  20. what about trying it with the PC booted into Safe Mode?
  21. resolved? - nope. what was a long standing 2'ish year old issue back in June is now a 2.5'ish year old issue.
  22. g'day Xavier and welcome versions of CC earlier than v5.33 (or thereabouts) will not install on Windows 10, it's something Microsoft implemented about 2 years ago. as to the new version you are trying, are you getting an error message during the install process?
  23. haven't even heard back from the OP.
  24. -1 I'll humbly disagree as well. for me, adding these extra features was the start of the slippery slope in the decline of CC when it moved away from its core, founding principle of being the best crap cleaning tool out there.
