  1. Command & Conquer? Try Trid File Identifier. There is also online scan if you don't want to download Trid.
  2. It's normal. Startup is the most crucial moment for processor. If your processor is going to burn it most likely happens at the startup, so you guys should be thankful that your computer is trying to protect your processor.
  3. Or the author is on vacation.
  4. NTFS definitely. Actually NTFS is pretty much the only choice for 250 GB partition. AFAIK You can't format such a huge partitions with any other windows file system. Not with windows tools anyway. Edit: + There is the famous 4 GB file size limit on FAT32
  5. If the partitions are empty... Start Menu => Run => diskmgmt.msc should be enough.
  6. F-Secure listed the top 10 malware registry launchpoints. http://www.f-secure.com/weblog/archives/ar...7.html#00001207

    Freeware!

XnView "Free software to view and convert graphic files. Support of more than 400 graphics formats!" http://www.xnview.com/ Media Player Classic "Media Player Classic looks just like Windows Media Player 6.4, but has many additional features. It has a built in DVD player with real-time zoom, support for AVI subtitles, QuickTime and RealVideo support (requires QuickTime and/or Real Player); built-in MPEG2/SVCD/DVD codec." http://sourceforge.net/projects/guliverkli/ nirsoft.net "NirSoft web site provides a unique collection of small and useful freeware utilities." (Tons of good stuff for any Power User) Note: Various antivirus programs detects some of the NirSoft password recovery tools as trojans, because of their nature. http://www.nirsoft.net/
  8. http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/935448/en-us A patch for this is most likely also included in todays Windows updates.
  9. I recommend Windows Installer CleanUp by Microsoft to remove the useless installer packages. You still need to know what packages to remove, but at least with this program you know what you are removing and it also removes all the registry keys/values relating to the installer package. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301
  10. Those issues appear on limited user because the user doesn't have the access to those files / folders, what causes CCleaner to assume that those files doesn't exist at all and that makes it an issue. For example the $NtUninstallKB?????$ folders can only be accessed by admins. CCleaner probably could handle this a little better if it would respond to the "no access error" differently.

    Passports

Damn. In Finland we can get passport for 10 years with one simple application what has to be delivered personally. The passport will be delivered in a week and it costs 46€. If you are wiling to pay more you can get the passport in a day... Legally
  12. Look in your Application Data folder. Usually "C:\Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data". If there is folder called Opera delete it.

    CCPortable

Thank you! Add in your portable.ini in [PORTABLE] section value CCleanerPath=App and then just move all the files except portable.exe and portable.ini in the "App" subdir.
  14. Great. That makes sense! CCleaner adopts it's environment from the service, but probably still runs under your own user account (CCleaner process shows as blue in Process Explorer). That's why it saves the Shell Folders in your HKCU and not in the NetworkService profile HKCU.
  15. Thanks. The NetworkService profile apparently is a "special" secure profile for some of the Windows XP services. For some reason in your system CCleaner get wrong environment paths what points to that profile. Could you try Process Explorer to check some things. In Process Explorer select properties from the CCleaner process and look in the environment tab and check if any of those paths there poit to the NetworkService profile (especially USERPROFILE path).
  16. Could you try Microsoft Sysinternals Regmon to monitor CCleaner registry activity. Just use HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders as Include filter in Regmon and run CCleaner, then save the Regmon log and attach it here. I used it myself and I can confirm that CCleaner can set those paths, but the question is why your CCleaner set wrong paths.
  17. Yes. And I am using the latest CCleaner and Windows 2000 pro. JamesM Note that CCleaner will check the time from the file Accessed timestamp and not from the Created or Modified timestamp.
  18. By default the "only temp files older than 48 hours" setting should be on, but with clean install CCleaner ignores it until you view the Advanced settings. To reproduce the problem... 1. Do clean install. Or better just temporarily rename the CCleaner options key in the registry. 2. Make sure your temp folder haves fresh files. 3. Run CCleaner and do Analyze. (Temp files newer than 48 hours are listed) 4. Go to Advanced settings. ("Only delete files in Windows Temp folders older than 48 hours" option is on by default?) 5. Do Analyze again. (Now only temp files older than 48 hours are listed)

    Trojan horse?

Hello. Was the file AVG detected as trojan "IntallOptions.dll"? If it was this FP is already fixed by AVG with the virus database (released at 01:27 on 7/12/06).
  20. I really want to get this problem solved before next Portable CCleaner release. I made a special portable.exe build what will always run in debug mode and it haves extra logging capabilities. So esponjacinzenta please try this build. Just unzip the exe file in the same directory with all the other Portable CCleaner files and run it. It will create two log files (install.log and portable.log) in the same directory with the exe file. Attach the log files to your reply here or send them to my email *yoink* Thank you. *yoink* Too late.
  21. That would only explain the Couldn't write... errors, but not the Unregistring errors. My guess is insufficient user rights. In XP home edition you have to be logged on as administrator to get it work properly... Though normally it shouldn't even start if you are not logged on as administrator. Do you always get just these errors Or do you get a whole bunch of other write errors too? If so add in the portable.ini in [PORTABLE] section value ReadOnlyMode=1 Also could you run Portable CCleaner in debug mode (run the exe with /PDEBUG parameter or change the debug mode on with the portable.ini file) and post the log (you can copy the log text by right-clicking it) in this topic.
