  1. All right, IE history will be excluded from cleaning. The question remains: why is this problem appearing at different times to different people? As I said, I was completely unaware of this until a couple of weeks ago, without changing anything. If Ms or cc changed something in the background, I can't possibly know. Thank you for your attention.
  2. Maybe you are right. Checking is going to be difficult, since everything was working fine up to a couple of weeks ago, and I am pretty sure I didn't touch anything. As a friend of mine used to say, Microsoft is fascinating: you never know what is going to happen to you the next day. A continuous adventure.. Anyway, for you info: Edge is unchecked in Background apps, and I never activated Cortana, which does not appear in Edge settings.
  3. hangs at IE history

First , this is not a solution, is a workaround. Second, I am not talking about a delay of seconds which would have not bothered me very much: in my case, ccleaner hangs forever (the longest I waited before giving up is over 45 minutes) and must be killed to get rid of it. "to periodically clean Internet Explorer's History just right-click upon it in CCleaner to clean it when you deem it necessary.". I don't get this. Right clicking on IE or IE History in CCleaner results in the same behavior: ccleaner hangs at IE history. Or you mean that in any case IE history should be bypassed?

  5. In my case, it hangs forever at IE history and must be killed by brute force. No skipping
  6. hangs at IE history

I would really like to understand what's going on here. I didn't have this problem until now: after updating to 5.51.6939 Ccleaner hangs constantly at IE history (and hangs forever, not just for 20/30 seconds as reported). You can kill the process (clicking on "X" at far right) but you cannot Cancel: If you try to cancel, the whole thing hangs ("does not answer") and you must kill it via Task Manager. Looking at the forum, it appears to be a long standing issue: None of the "remedies" indicated in some posts works. I am on win 10, 64 bits, I DO NOT use Internet explorer (using Chrome and Opera), using Kaspersky antivirus. Cleaning IE directly while exiting seems to work. Do we have hope of having this thing fixed? There is a post with a possible solution that I did not understand If someone cares to explain, I will try that solution also. Thank you
  7. Word Recent Documents

Thanks Willi2, but definitely there is something veeeeery unclear. I removed the \, as suggested (using manual edit), but the \ disappears in the folder name in the exclude section ("files and folders to exclude"), but remains in the name "exclude drive or folder" in the "add panel" popping out whenn you double click on the name: BUT the name here is c:\....\microsoft\, without "recent", and in addition, in the "file type" box, "recent" is displayed, which does not make any sense. So I tried to edit the name inserting (like in your example) "c:\.....\microsoft\recent|*.*". Nothing much seems to change; the name in the "add panel" remains the same (ending in \microsoft\) and in the file type box "recent|*.*" appears. In any case, running ccleaner, the directory contents is wiped out. I believe I am really missing something elementary, because the lolgic seems straighforward: exclude THAT folder from the clean process. So, why is this so difficult for me? Thanks, Robert PS I forgot: the folder is NEVER listed in the analyze list (and in the deleted list).
  8. Word Recent Documents

Sorry to bother you, but this does not seem to work, at least in my case. The list of recent Word 2007 documents can be found (windows 7, 64 bit) in the folder c:\users\robert\appdata\roaming\microsoft\office\recent, so I added this folder to the Exclude option of ccleaner; but the execution of ccleaner always clears the folder. Anything elese I can try? Thanks Robert
