  1. Thanks for the suggestion. I'll try it out, but I suspect the usb key image is too big (256MB) and vfd appears to only work on images of floppy disks. I'm also going to see if I can beat Virtual Clone Drive into submission, but it is geared toward *.iso files.
  2. I have a really borked usb key, so I took a complete image of the disk using dd on a Debian linux. I ran some other recovery tools on that image, but didn't find the file I was looking for. In messing with Recuva on my old XP box, it doesn't appear that I can run the program on a specific file (usbkey.img - my dd image), only on mounted filesystems (i.e. C:, D:, E:, etc). Is there either a way to make Recuva load a raw filesystem image (i.e. the dd copy) or to allow XP to mount the filesystem image as a drive? The usb key itself appears to have completely bit the dust (the light on the drive doesn't come on when plugged in anymore), so I think this image is my only shot.
