  1. Great job Mr G. However, I agree that the background from v1.4 is nicer. The Icons this time are very well done and placed. As to the install-it removed the 1.4 Icon even though I put the program in a different folder. The uninstall was uneventful (Icon also disappeared). NOTE: For those testing this version - make a Restore Point before doing the install and DO NOT delete using the Advanced section. I also did not use the Registry tool-just did an Analyze. The 1.4 Icon can be restored from the program folder and will work just fine again after Restoring. I will wait for the final "Slim" version release
  2. If the uninstaller is not available from Control Panel/Add-Remove then you will have to do it manually. It is not as hard as it appears. All you need to do is delete ALL of the folders tht were created for the program. Then you can run CCleaner to help get rid of the Registry entries. If that is not enough-then you will need to edit the Registry. WARNING_Editing the Registry is Dangerous! Make a backup of it and also a System Restore Point. Using Regedit you can search for the references to the program and delete them. That should do the trick. BTW: This is one of the recommendations for those having difficulty with Adobe Reader 8.
  3. Generally, CCleaner will NOT remove anything that would be harmful. The default settings are very good. I do not use a few things just to be safe. Unless you know the result-do not use the "Advanced" settings as they will remove some things permanently. Also the "Applications area" has a couple of things I uncheck-mainly the Firefox cookies. The Issues category can also be of interest to you. Be careful with that as well. This is my experience and thus far I have had no issues letting the program run.
  4. You can edit the Registry-with great care-to remove the Key. WARNING-Editing the Registry is Dangerous! You do so at your own risk. If by some chance the key is linked to an active program, you may not be able to do this without causing damage to something else.
  5. Hi: Firefox 2.0.0.1 does NOT contain the toolbar. I'm looking at my copy as I type this. Go to www.mozilla.com and you will find the correct file there. To remove it from Firefox-you must completely uninstall Firefox from your computer. Then you can install the version you want.
  6. I don't know if this is an answer to your query-but the fact is that Win95 and Win98 have ended their life cycles according to Microsoft. This makes them orphans of a sort. Thus, most programmers are creating things for Windows XP or later at this point. You might want to send an E-mail to the author about this.
  7. Thanks JD-might be nice if that function was better implemented
  8. It appears that such is the case for me as well. I can delete using the Windows Taskbar & Settings component, but not CCleaner. Why would anyone need to reboot in XP SP2?
  9. Just tested my Palm Desktop HotSync and all is well. I use CCleaner on my Laptop and that is where the PDA program also lives. Must agree that it is very possible the client goofed.
  10. Might it be that you should shut down all of these defense things and try a clean install. Just a thought
  11. Just an idea - try removing ALL of the junk that you can manually, via the browsers internal tools. 100MB is a huge amount to have lying around. I agree that a full virus/spyware scan is logical. Use the most current definitions for this. You do not mention the version of Windows and that could be a contributor if it is not fully up to date. I usually run CCleaner once a day, btw. We also use AdAware as our other tool on a daily basis. Hope this gets you started in the right direction.
  12. Many burner programs no longer run well/at all on WIN98 based machines. Then again some burners won't work well either on anything but the latest generation of 2000 or XP. Read the requirements and go with them. I do not accept that machines running under 1 GigaHertz with minimal RAM will actually handle the current generation of software/hardware. With that said, I have gotten away completely from both Nero and Roxio products. The choice of a nearly free or low cost burning program is Ashampoo Burning Studio and their Music editor. Work like a charm and are well supported. Another thing is that this product does NOT have a drag and drop add-on like DLA or InCD. Just my experience and observations. Happy New Year All!

    Close Firefox

Hazelnut: Thanks for your links. However, my machine is generic and I am the Administrator under XP Pro SP2. BEDO: Hope that all continues to go well for you. I will track the issue concerning Firefox and see if it is resolved in the next release of Ccleaner.

    Close Firefox

I have removed it from both machines. I prefer to not have issues MY only ongoing complaint is that there is no checkbox to prevent Ccleaner from removing Restore Point information; as best as I can determine anyway. Otherwise, the program continues to serve me quite well overall.

    Close Firefox

This just happened on my otherwise well behaved HP ZE5570 Laptop. There was no other program running when CCleaner 1.36 was installed over v 1.35. I completely removed v 1.36 and reinstalled 1.35 and all is good again. Never lost the DVD drive on this machine. I must add that thus far I am not seeing this behavior on my custom destop machine (Athlon 2200+). I have 2 different Sony burners in it and both are fine as is Firefox. This is more than a nuisance and should be addressed. I would also ask that there be a tick box for Windows Restore since this is important to have when the problem that has been offered here comes up. Otherwise, I really like Ccleaner.

    about firefox

Firefox is open source and has fewer issues compared to IE. There will be times that you will have to use IE due to people being unfamiliar/unwilling to code their web material for a different browser. Firefox is inherently more secure and stable using the defaults. You can do a lot with it to customize how it performs for you. The previous answers are to the point as well. I do a manual Cookie clean of Firefox every day in addition to allowing. This is in addition to running CCleaner and Ad Aware has kept my system up to par without any negative consequences. Just my 2 cents....
  17. Have you tried a complete uninstall and reinstall? This should not be necessary, but sometimes you can have a file corrupted. Make sure that the Registry is OK too. Personally, I'm not having any issues with this version.
  18. Thanks for the heads up. No I don't save anything there <G>
  19. So I use CCleaner every day and all is good. But, the new version appears to delete things in the Recycle Bin without asking-or am I wrong. The machine is running Win XP Pro SP2 and is otherwise just fine. Any ideas are most welcome.
  20. Have you tried to remove them manually? This will take a good amount of time and require that you edit the Registry (eek) - at your own risk. You can also try using Norton Win Doctor to aid you with the remnants. Another thing, make sure that you have NOT ticked Log and several other tpes of files like Cookies and extensions. Just some ideas to try.
  21. Just installed from Mozilla.
  22. "Aug 2 2006, 06:27 AM Softpedia released Firefox 1.5.0.6 real early this morning." Very interesting-I just ran the updater from within v1.5.05 and it says there are NO updates available. This version was released last week, btw. For those that run Thunderbird-the newest release is also 1.5.05.
  23. Works like a charm for me. Appreciate that you continue to offer it in the "slim" version. Keep up the good work.
  24. Hi I have not seen this problem. Ran CCleaner before and after doing a reinstall of JAVA from the Sun website. I wanted to remove all traces of the updates as they occupy nearly 400 megs of space and put only the latest build on-works just fine. You can get the full install package from Sun and it should run just fine - www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp Good luck
  25. CCleaner is not designed to recover your machine. Many programs are known to not install or remove properly-bad programming. I have WIN DVD6 from a purchased disc and it works as advertised, when I need to watch video. Did you try using WIN XP System Restore-this sometimes works. Now to your problem-you need to find ALL of the program's files in its folders. Then you need to run REGEDIT and very carefully DELETE each and everyone of the entries for WINDVD/Intervideo. IT is not necessary to get rid of all of them-just the ones you can actually see. If this is scary-then I strongly suggest one of the following- a. get an commercal uninstaller and hope that works. b. have your selling dealer's tech folks do it (for a fee probably) or c- and the eaasiest and safest is to use the manufacturer's recovery disc and redo the computer-this wipes everything you have done with a fresh setup. You can take all of your documentrs and other data off first. Good luck
