  1. Right I was looking in the wrong place-thanks
  2. Thank you for your comments. I tried what you suggested but I didn't see that function in Edge settings.
  3. It just did it again. Now I'm stumped.
  4. Thank you for your comments. My security software is as follows: 1. McAfee Live Safe: Runs full time with real time protecttion 2. Super Anti Spyware: Free version which I run daily. It usually finds somewhere between 1-5 tracking cookies 3. Malwarebytes: Free version which I run about once a week. Usually find nothing So far, since I enabled the Edge cleaning function, I have had no repeat of the CC finding the "Edge browser open" issue. So it seems that that issue has to do with cookies in the Edge browser. When I run CC analysis the Edge cookie results are not listed. The only way to deal with this problem, at this time, is to enable the Edge "clean on closing" function-it works. You might want to pass along this remedy to other Edge users who are experiencing this same problem. As I said before I rarely use Edge, for a variety of reasons, much preferring FF or Chrome which have never had this problem. Thanks for you continued help.
  5. In doing my puzzle solving I discovered that Edge has a feature that cleans the browser, e.g. cookies, cache etc automatically on closing the browser. I enable that feature. So far I've had no CC issues-so far. I'll keep you posted. Have a nice weekend.
  6. Well I unchecked everything and it still came up. If I uncheck clear cookies it appears to stop. When unchecking cookies in edge it also unchecks it in IE. I'm thinking is has something to do with the cookies. As for going back to a previous version, I tried that, and the same thing happened. Perhaps I'll just use the Edge cleaning function-what a pain. I'll keep you posted as I investigate this further.
  7. Happened again. So much for that idea. As for the comments regarding the Registry-I'm not playing with the registry. Maybe I'll just uncheck Edge since I rarely use it anyone.
  8. So far, since I disabled the live weather tile, I have had no repeat of the Edge browser being open. I'll update this post with any further developments. Thanks for everyone's comments. FYI W10
  9. I'll turn off the weather tile and see what happens. I'll keep you posted. Thanks
  10. Thank you for your prompt reply. I followed you suggestions and here's what I found out: 1.The only live tile I have active is the weather tile. I can turn that off if you think that's the cause of the problem. 2. I checked start up programs and Edge was not listed in either the task bar or CC Tools start up. If you would like to see a screen shot of my start up programs please advise and I will send it along.
  11. Is there anything that can be done to CC to have it ignore this issue short of unchecking everything Edge?
  12. Lately when I use CC it always says that the Edge browser is open and do I want to close it. I rarely use Edge much preferring Chrome and FF. It seems to have started within the last week so I don't know if it had something to do with a recent CC update and/or and Edge update. So the question now is this a CC issue or an Edge issue or some combination of both?
  13. I recently uninstalled and reinstalled McAfee Live Safe. I used the McAfee removal tool before reinstalling. When I run CCleaner it continually finds the following registry key: McAfee Installer HKLM\Softwarre\Installer. CCleaner removes it, but, it just pops up again. When I run System Mechanic it doesn't find it. Anyway, is there a way to remove this entry short of editing the registry something I don't want to do? For the time being I added this registry key to my exclude list? Thanks
  14. I have an idea where the Mcafee came from. When you install Flash Player, Adobe Reader, and/or Java you are given the option of installing a McAfee security item. Eventhough, you can uncheck that option so as not to install it, somehow a registry entry gets in, at least, thats what I think
  15. Why does CC show Adobe Reader 8 and McAfee Antivirus ,in applications, when neither of them are installed programs?

    Adobe Reader

I seem to have the same problem. I updated to AR 10.1.4 from AR 9.1.3 and found some left over 9.0 files that I could not remove with the st'd windows uninstaller so I tried using Revo and got rid of most of the folders but there are still bits and pieces left over that Revo can't remove. I checked with Dell and it had something to do with permission problems. Dell can't figure it out either. I tried creating a separate folder, as suggested above, and copying and pasting the offending folders. I could delete the new folder, but, the old folders are still there. At this point I gave up and just put them in the AR 10 program folder-out of sight out of mind. Also, why does CC still show an Adobe Acrobat 8 and Adobe Acrobat 10 in applications when AA 8 doesn't exist?
  17. I've been using CC for 4 years now with never a problem until recently. In the last 3 wks my Windows Installer function has been corrupted and therefore useless resulting in a complete Vista OS restore, the first time, and a system point restore the second time. The folks at Dell Tech support strongly suggested that I stay away from any registry cleaner. Has anybody, out there, reported a similar problem with CC? I'm really spooked now.
  18. In V3.08.1475 CCleaner now gives you the option of cleaning McAfee log files. I contacted McAfee about this and their answer was not to delete the files until they've had an opportunity to see what kind of McAfee files CCleaner is scanning. So, better to be safe then sorry, and uncheck that application.
  19. I just installed C3.05 and I would have thought that the folks at CC would have dialed backed the aggressiveness of the extension cleaner function based on the many postings of late. Well, they haven't. I would suggest to all CC users that you either disable the file extension cleaner function or add those extensions that you do not want to delete to your exclude list.
  20. I just installed the latest CC uodate 3.04.1389 and I have to tell you the "unused extension" feature is way too aggressive. It's wants to clean out ext that I use on a regular basis. Be very wary of what you remove. At the very least back up what you remove just in case. Do use the "exclude function" right click, to stop CC from reading those ext you need. Even better disable the "unused extension" function. The crew at Piriform should really see about making this function less aggressive like before.
  21. Just updated to V3.04.1389 and now when I run the registry cleaner it keeps finding .STEP, .igs etc all CAD dwg file exensions I use with CAD programs I have and use. Even if I delete them they're just going to return when I use those programs. What was done with this update that all of a sudden it's finding these extensions? Is there some way to tell CC to ignore these extensions in it's cleaning process? I look for anyone's comments.
  22. Just recently when I run the registry cleaner portion of CCleaner I've been getting a MUI Cache Reference -33057, something, I've never gotten before as long as I have been using CC for the last 18 months. It seems to have coincided with the my installation of the latest version of CC. Now, CC does remove it, but, it keeps showing up every 3rd or 4th scan. Is this some sort of false positive on the part of CC or did the new version detect something that was always there. By-the-way what is it?
  23. I just installed CC on my XP OS where I use FF 3.0 as my browser. When I run the cleaner it asks me to close the FF browser, but, it's not open. When I run the cleaner it says it has skipped cleaning the FF cache, however, when I run CC again it then cleans the FF cache. I'm confused. Can anybody help?
  24. I deselected internet history as you suggested and voila it works-thanks!
