  1. Someone is bringing up the old prefetch crap again. Read old threads before bringing up old bs.
  2. Things that Norton System Works can fix can be found online, allot of fixes are listed at http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm, others can be found just by searching for them or asking for help in a forum. There's usually one or many freeware alternatives to expensive commercial products. eTrust EZ Antivirus won't fix issues like registry errors, hard disk errors, etc., it's a virus scanner that prevents and removes viruses and other similiar threats such as trojans, etc. I'm not sure if they offer anything on par with System Works, just check their website to see if they do.
  3. Enable is the default setting for Navigate Sub-frames in Internet Explorer. I've never changed that setting.

I also use WinRAR, there's no replacement for it, at least that's what I think.

TUGZip has been listed in the freeware thread for about 6 months now, originally posted by TwistedMetal.
  6. The other time it happened you posted about it here: http://forum.ccleaner.com/index.php?showtopic=3385 Since it seems to be a registry related issue that nobody except the developer will probably know about, PM the CCleaner developer MrG and point him in the direction of both threads you've started about the issue. The first one: http://forum.ccleaner.com/index.php?showtopic=3385 This one: http://forum.ccleaner.com/index.php?showtopic=3468
  7. I can't comment on how CCleaner works with Norton. However, in the past I've seen various registry cleaners destroy Norton Antivirus to the point where it would have to be uninstalled and then reinstalled. That is of course in part the fault of Symantec due them putting so much in the registry that doesn't look valid which will have some registry cleaners listing a ton of entries to be removed. If you use any registry cleaner that can exclude entries make sure you exclude while any Norton or other Symantec product is installed: Norton, Symantec If you uninstall all Norton and Symantec products remove those names from the exclude list to find a horde of left over remnants in the registry.
  8. The new logo looks very good!
  9. I have the setting enabled. Here's what the info is on it (screenshot):
  10. Same here! If I had known about OpenOffice when purchasing my system back in December 2003 I could have saved $300 plus dollars USD, and could have instead either kept that money or used that money for slightly better hardware, a bigger monitor, or an even larger secondary hard disk.

The best way to unpack RAR archives is to use the official freeware UnRAR for Windows (or whatever OS you have), it's command-line but works like a charm.
  12. Place the program in C:\Windows or wherever your Windows OS directory is, then simply start a Command Prompt to use the program. Command Line programs are much quicker to use when placed in C:\Windows since you won't have to use the change directory command ("cd") just to use them.
  13. To easy way to allow all users to easily have access to CCleaner is: * Right click the CCleaner shortcut on the Desktop for your user profile and select Cut. * Open C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Desktop then right click and select Paste. CCleaner will now be available to all user profiles on your system. CCleaner can also be launched for different user profiles this way: * Click Start->Run->Type in (including the quotes): "C:\Program Files\CCleaner\ccleaner.exe" You'll of course have to configure CCleaner for each user profile as all settings are stored separately in HKEY_CURRENT_USER. To successfully use the Issues scanner a user profile will need to have Administrator priveleges turned on.
  14. I just learnt something new!
  15. Having CCleaner automatically run, already discussed here: http://forum.ccleaner.com/index.php?showtopic=3166 Suggestions thread: http://forum.ccleaner.com/index.php?showtopic=4
  16. On my system the MS scanner is just as fast as the Trend Micro scanner and my installed eTrust EZ Antivirus, however that's only after disabling installed av resident shields during the online scan which will decrease the overall scan time by 15-25% or more. Also the MS scanner updates much faster (on dial-up) versus the one from Trend Micro. The Trend Micro scanner would take so long to download the signature files on my dial-up that it was a better choice to instead download AVAST, AVG or some other installable AV scanner and then just uninstall it once scanning was completed.
  17. It's a big difference from an open source firewall.
  18. I found out what was creating that file, it's Power Defragmenter GUI which uses irsetup.exe. I suppose it's using it as a runtime.

I don't know what that would be in U.S. money, however for around $100-$200 dollars here in the U.S.A. you can get a very decent pair of Altec Lansing surround speakers with a subwoofer. In that price range there's other name brands as well.
  21. Perhaps it's the VB Runtime issue, see possible fix here. If that isn't it uninstall CCleaner, then restart Windows. Then reinstall CCleaner, and restart Windows.
  22. Some registry keys are protected/locked. For an example ZoneAlarm does that with some registry keys to protect itself.
  23. You need real-time protection (resident shield) enabled to stop a virus before it infects your system and causes damage versus it infecting your system and later having to remove the virus and repair the damage. Since you don't have real-time protection running that's why it was suggested for you to get an antivirus scanner. You'd be better off with eTrust that rridgely recommended, and you can use it for free for one full year.
  24. Check your firewall logs if their advanced enough to show if the updater .exe program was blocked.
  25. ClamAV is Clam Antivirus, what you would've tried on Windows is ClamWin Free Antivirus.
