SpywareBlaster 3.5.1 has been released. I clicked the link within SpywareBlaster that stated there was a new version, and noticed some info about installing a new version, it's recommended to: 1. Run your currently installed version of SpywareBlaster and select Disable All Protection 2. Uninstall the version you have installed. 3. Install the new version.

LMAO, Sony Wokman. That was a good one!

Well if you look at guides online EAC isn't all that hard to configure and once configured you shouldn't have to ever change your settings unless of course a new EAC version can't use a previous versions configuration - I think this has only happened once or maybe twice in the past few years. I have no ideal what's going on with CDex development, it's been over two years since 1.51 was released however it's at least stable. The homepage has been unreachable for several weeks or months - an explaination can be read here. CDex can still be downloaded from it's SourceForge.net Project Page. Some of the .dll files that CDex uses can be quickly and easily updated to "refresh" it without there being a new version. You can update the Ogg Vorbis DLL Encoder and LAME MP3 DLL Encoder with newer versions. You can even update the Winamp input plugins it uses or add more in "...\CDex\Plugins" by downloading them, or by installing the newest Winamp 5 and then copying them.

Nothing is faster an easier than what I do, which is: 1. Dump a batch file such as "Check Disk.bat" into C:\Windows 2. Input the command line chkdsk parameters you want to use, mine are: CHKDSK.EXE /X /V /F D: CHKDSK.EXE /V C: 3. Create a shortcut on the Desktop that points to C:\Windows\Check Disk.bat and all I have to do is double click it to have my disks scanned for errors. I only have it clean indexes on C: which will report any errors because the fix command won't work for my C: drive for some reason. Instead to fix errors on C: I run: FSUTIL.exe DIRTY SET C: and then reboot.

Your computer is infected with hexadecimal, please consult a hexadecimalist or scan with Norton Anti-Hexadecimal 2006.

Perhaps it's just sending the site URL straight into your default browser, but more importantly your default browser is already configured and has permission in the firewall settings to access the Internet, therefore CCleaner doesn't get added into the list of programs with Internet access.
-
As for a firewall I'm now using Sunbelt Kerio Personal Firewall. I hope it doesn't reveal any annoyances or very obvious bugs, and if it doesn't after I test it during the 30 day trial period I may end up purchasing a license since it only costs $14.95 at the moment.

Before some of the stuff you've posted has been annoying to say the least, but I've never complained. No offense but writting something like "I dont even find it all that good" isn't very nice and just makes you sound like an ass.

I would also like that!

You guys are too much, first kobrakommander56 gets me to laughing, now you too Mike Rochip have got me laughing silly.

Lol. Yup that will surely make things more lively so we can reply with remarks like b.s., boohoo, and go away, that would surely get the blood boiling around here for a short time.

Change the behavior of the Advanced option called "Tray Notifications Cache" to: 1. When clicked still show a warning prompt. 2. After the 'Run Cleaner' button is pressed automatically untick Tray Notifications Cache and show another prompt that the explorer.exe process will be now be shutdown and relaunched to allow Tray Notifications Cache cleaning to be completed. There's already a .vbs script that can automatically shutdown and restart explorer.exe at http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm in '53. Remove Past Items From Notification Area', however I'd like that automatted ability built into CCleaner without having to manually do it.

Welcome back! About the beta versions, just some suggestions: * Have the beta installer install to: "C:\Program Files\CCleaner Beta" * Have the registry settings stored in: "HKCU\Software\CCleaner Beta" "HKCU\Software\VB and VBA Program Settings\CCleaner Beta"

A full system backup would be the same amount you currently have on your hard disk viewable in My Computer. However if you compress the backup, it will be much smaller.

If I had known you had a Dell I would have told you to download Dell Driver Reset Tool, it can fix allot of stuff. However since you've fixed it it's too late to tell you. "HLKM\Current\Controlset\Control\Class" has a load of stuff in there, hardware related from what I could tell looking at a few subkeys on my system. I don't know what you can expect to happen or if you've broken anything. Hopefully Windows will automatically detect all your devices again or automatically restore that section from a last known good configuration.

Lol kobrakommander56!

Like rridgely stated removing the ActiveX would be what I would want, of course if that were the case they'd probably have to create a separate tool for allowing Microsoft Updates/Windows Updates or just allow any browser to download them via a plugin. Also making it separate from the system and not so tightly integrated could greatly decrease the possibility of it being the cause so many systems get malware or hijacked from using it.

Sony Stops Vandalizing Computers? Well I think a proper pain and suffering payment would be a new PS3 when it comes out, free games for life, a free high definition wide screen t.v., and a free home theater. And to make sure they haven't purposely decreased the quality of all that free stuff a free lifetime replacement of any Sony product that wears out.

Well I suppose chkdsk.exe wouldn't be hard to combine/embed into an app if Microsoft gave permission since it's only 11.5 KB (11,776 bytes), so who knows how HDCleaner is scanning the disk for errors, it could even be calling it another way that doesn't show up in Process Explorer such as a hidden external Command Window. From what I could tell it was giving similiar information as chkdsk.exe does when using it in a Command Prompt (which is what I use) because that's the only way it will report any errors such as volume bitmap errors, or minor inconsistencies. The GUI version via right clicking a drive in My Computer doesn't state squat about what's wrong.
-
Perhaps, however people in the past that have submitted GUI "bugs" were using a theme that didn't allow it to display correctly. Even the default Microsoft themes when using too big of a font or a "non-standard" font can mess up how a program GUI looks, e.g.; text that runs off of buttons or can't be seen at all.

Now you know. ChkDsk can fix all sorts of crap. If you haven't ever ran the option "Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors" you may want to let it run on each of your hard disk(s) when you aren't going to be using your computer for a couple of hours, the time it takes depends upon your hard disk(s) speed and size. Like I already stated in a previous post or two I run "Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors" once every 1 to 3 months, and I always run it on a new system I get.
-
That may explain what I've experienced using System Restore, and is the main reason when I restore using a restore point I immediately use one of my ERUNT backups to make sure the registry is really restored to a previous state. Using ERUNT the backup is complete and any changes that happened after the ERUNT backup will be completely lost, the same can be said when using WinRescue which is commercial software.
-
It's not that much work versus reinstalling everything from scratch. Also if you backup to a hard disk make sure you aren't saving the backup on drive C:\ instead choose a different hard disk or partition, however for the best safety backup to DVD or CD. If you backup to DVD or CD you'll probably have to use your zipping software to zip the backup and then split it into multiple pieces for each disc.

I upgraded to Sonic RecordNow! Deluxe Dell Edition v6.5.0 when I got my system two years ago. It has never given me one problem. The reason I however don't like it is because it can't write audio CD's without the 2 second gap inbetween tracks -- however that's now solved with burnatonce and Burrrn, and I now only use RecordNow for writing data CD's since I absolutely must have file verification of the written data.
