Sorry for dragging this old thread back up, but the method doesn't work. The new value simply gets re-written with all the previous data (probably what was stored in memory from previous boot up). Question: So does anyone know if it's possible to clear the data in the AppCompatCache value and "start from scratch" as it contains lots of "history" of previous executables.

I was wondering, in Options>Cookies sometimes there are 2 cookies that are similar in the Cookies on Computer list: e.g. internetdownloadmanager.com www.internetdownloadmanager.com When adding cookies to Cookies to Keep list, is it necessary to add both or will adding either suffice? I have a massive Cookies to Keep list, and about 30% are the same site but with www infront of them. Thanks.

They only get created when AutoUpdate is disabled. I'm not going to enable updating to stop them. I did this instead: ssdfp*.*.* And that keeps them at bay.

If Opera auto update is disabled, files with names like ssdfp2896.1.1760381288 & ssdfp4320.1.1475299922 are created in Opera's application data folder each time the browser is exited. These build up over time, each one is unique but always begins with ssdfp. The typical size is 176 bytes but doesn't have a file extension. With each file being unique ,is it possible to create an Include filter so that CCleaner can remove them? Thanks.

The CCleaner update check would take you direct to http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download to download it. So why would you go to filehippo for the download is anyone's guess...

I noticed the Option>Exclude>Add Exclude dialog window has an option to include a Registry Key. Is it possible to have a Registry Key option on the Include diaglog window also? Example: Quite often when updating a program, it's adds itself to Run/start on Windows start up, even if it was previously disabled. An option to clean specifc registry keys when running CCleaner before shutdown/restarting would enable me to include registry entries to stop programs running on the next boot. (It would also eliminate me having to run newly updated programs - occasionally not possible anyway before a reboot has taken place - and checking manually whether a Start xxx when Windows starts "box" has been re-checked). Any thoughts? Thanks.

Hello. There are some sites I do not wish to store cookies on my computer, so I add them to the exception list in Firefox: Tools>Options>Privacy>Exceptions. But after running CCleaner, the exceptions list is cleaned. I want Firefox cleaning included in CCleaner, but not the cookie exceptions. Is there anyway to stop the exceptions being "cleaned"? Thanks.

I've just installed this version and CCleaner hangs when the cleaning is showing Firefox>Internet History (24% through cleaning). It's hogging 50% of the CPU. I have to use Process Explorer/Task Manager to shut CCleaner down. I went back to 4.07 and CCleaner finishes to 100%. Using Windows XP SP3 & Firefox 25.0.1.

Hmm... I got the boxed version of VideoStudio X4 from Amazon.co.uk, and PaintShop Pro X4 direct from Corel. I'll try an unistall/reinstall of both programs to see if that helps. Although I only use the Help and product information button occasionally, I cant be doing with things not working correctly. Thanks.

Hmmm... I've restored the contents of the following folder from a back up: C:\Documents and Settings\MIKE\Application Data\Corel\Messages. The restored Messages folder contains 1408 files within 464 folders - more importantly the Help and product information button is working (for both VSX4 & PSPX4) After running CCleaner, the Messages folder now contains 3 files (each called Message.policy) within 3 folders (540244232_807001, 540226262_810007 & 540222514_410003) and the Help and product information button now does not work. ??

This didn't work. It looks like some necessary folders/files (i.e. not junk) have been deleted. Wonderful (!)

Whose bright idea was it clean these 2 programs? Now, the Corel guide button (top right of both X4 program interfaces) refuses to work, and I cannot check for updates either (Help>Check for Updates). Thanks.

I think you hit the nail on the head - there was a process running. It appears Firefox was in the middle of downloading a browser update (Firefox 10) when I closed it an ran CCleaner. Just bad timing on my part. If I'd waited til I shut down computer before running the new version of CCleaner, this wouldn't have occured. Happy to report CCleaner is running as normal.

After updating to CCleaner version 3.15.1643, Firefox Cache cleaning is skipped. Even with Firefox exited, it's still skipped. It wasn't a problem until just now after updating. Running Windows XP SP3; Firefox 9.0.1.

I restored System, ran CCleaner and boot time is now solved. Result. Thanks. I've also narrowed down the culprit setting to either DNS Cache or Font Cache - I suspect it's the latter as I have 1697 fonts (Does this mean on every boot the fonts have to be cached all over again?). I'll try running CCleaner with DNS Cache enabled later to see how, and if, that affects booting. The checked boxes in the thumbnail below currently gives me back my 3 minute boot time. I'm Using Windows XP SP3. CCleaner 3.14.1616. Prefetch - there are files in the Windows Prefetch folder - does this mean it's enabled? I've not heard of Super Prefetch. Windows indexing is disabled. NB The long boot times only occurs after running CCleaner. I just tried this: I disabled everything on the Advanced tab, then ran CCleaner. Reboot computer. There is still a long in boot time (therefore it cant be related to Advanced cleaning). Immediately after this boot, I boot computer again without running CCleaner - 3 minutes then I'm good to go. This indicates it cannot be related to my start-up items (thumbnail attached) either. Regarding unchecking MS Search, I cant see that option to uncheck that>?

This has been happening for a while - if I DON'T run CCleaner before shutting down computer (i.e. Turn Off), my computer boots and is ready to go in less than 3 minutes. However, if I DO run CCleaner before shutting down computer, my computer takes almost 9 minutes to boot then ready to go. The delay is on the Welcome screen. It stays on the Welcome screen for around 6 minutes while the hard drive is doing "something". I've been keeping my eye on this and it only happens when CCleaner is run between computer boots (although I normally run last thing before Turn Off). Also, it is only when I run CCleaner section. If I just run the Registry cleaning, there is no problem. It seems CCleaner is cleaning something it shouldn't hence the long boot time. Can anyone offer any suggestions as to what is going on? Thanks. EDIT: Additional Info: I just had a thought it might be down to me adding custom folders and files to clean. So I deleted all my custom settings, ran CCleaner - there is still a delay in computer booting time after running CCleaner. So it must be down to a box that I have checked somewhere in CCleaner. I've attached an image of what I have checked. Maybe something in System or Advanced could be unchecked?

this question solved the problem i was having. although i only now use internet explorer 7,i do have firefox,opera and safari installed also which i have used in the past. i opened CCleaner and clicked the applications tab-the cookies boxes for those other 3 browsers where unchecked. so i checked them,and then clicked analyze. all the cookies in cookies to delete list showed up.so i ran the cleaner then checked the cookies to delete list and everything has now been cleared apart from everything in the cookies to keep list. thanks for the help. ps CCleaner may uninstall everything that it installs,but other programs i have used then uninstalled leave a lot of 'crap' shall we say. revo-uninstaller tends to remove more then what the original program's uninstaller by itself leaves behind. i understand CCleaner uninstalls everything without having to use revo. anyway,thanks for everyone's input. problem solved

thanks for the responses,but i tried this just after posting: i used revo-uninstaller to uninstall CCleaner and then double checked to make sure nothing was left in program files/application data folder etc... i then ran registry mechanic just in case any entries for CCleaner might have be left in the registry. restarted the computer then installed the latest version (v2.15.815). all the previous cookie entries where still there in the cookies to delete list-nearly 100 entries....where on earth are these entires being remembered from? i had to go through the entire list of cookies to allow the ones i wanted to keep. they cant be from the cookies folder as there are only 32 cookie files in there. surely the 'cookies to delete' list monitors the cookies folder to see what is being added should you go to new sites,then these will be added into the cookies to delete list when you open CCleaner. as i only have 32 cookies i require not deleting-and these are in the cookies to keep list now anyway,why is the cokkies to delete list NOT empty?? i know it isn't a major problem,but this list should be empty.

in CCleaner under options>cookies,the are two lists: cookies to delete, and cookies to keep. on the cookies to delete list,is there any way to,if you like,'refresh' this list as there are a lot of entries under it from sites i no longer visit. so i would like to restart this list from scratch again. the reason i ask is i have to scroll and search through a ton of entires when i want to send one to the cookies to keep list. thanks.

i'd added loads of files and folders to include when scanning for junk. i saw you could also add a registry entry to exclude.just wasn't sure how to go about it. so many thanks.
