  1. Do you really need to defrag them?? That's always a question I've had. Do we really need to defrag anything?
  2. Defraggler works great on normal smaller files which I have up to perhaps 500MB. It's simply these larger compressed Acronis Image files that are 1.5GB. Perhaps the program has difficulty with the compression?
  3. In WinXP the latest Defraggler 20.201, my backup drive contains large files of 1,528,000KB. It has been running now for about 12 hours and still has 10 fragmented files, 20% fragmentation. Apparently it takes at least an hour to defrag each file. Is there a file size limit that would cause this to be faster, or another setting, or anything that can be done to speed up this operation.
  4. Just realized that Enable email reply needs to be checked, presumably with each reply, so will do it here.
  5. When CCleaner is run if items such as temporary files, history, etc., are checked to be be removed and you right click and choose save as file, they are saved as a log.txt. I guess Augeas has answered the question, they are not recoverable with CCleaner. That being the case, guess I won't be using CCleaner. Yes, they are recoverable with Recuva; however, all to frequently the results of removal of a file is not noticed until some time later when another program doesn't work properly, so don't believe Recuva is the answer either as a file may be written over by then. I had hoped that CCleaner would put the removed files into the Recycle Bin to be readily recovered, but that's not the case.
  6. WinXP with CCleaner 2.20.920: If several files were removed and first copied them to the log file, how can 1 or more entries be restored? FYI using restore points when I first tried it a few years ago, found it untrustworthy, so am using Acronis True Image. For the sake of argument, let's assume I don't have an image just prior to running CCleaner and perhaps 100 files were removed which are seen in a log file. Two of these 100 files need to be restored. Is there a method to do this?

    Large files

Defragger 1.03.094 is very slow defragging a drive with files of about 1.5gb. It took 4 hours to defrag a 90gb drive with 63gb of files where about 5 needed defragging. These are Acronis Image files. Is this par and if so, another way to accommodate?

Deleted the large Acronis image files (and not in recycle either), and Defraggler still crashes on Drive E. Any suggestions??

    crashing

Went back from version 1.05 to version 1.03 and have same difficulty, it immediately fails on Drive E, while C & D run OK. Here's the stats: Drive C NTFS, 50gb/25 used Drive D FAT32, 50gb/7 used Drive E NTFS, 49gb/10 used (after deleting Acronis images) Checking old notes see that the same problem was experienced last August with version 1.02.085. Since that time many files have been added to this backup drive and checkdisk has been run and outturns OK. Could it relate to the drive contains some Acronis images which are almost 5gb? Any ideas as to cause and method to correct?
  10. Before I return to the prior version, am waiting to hear if you can debug via the last msg attachment. Thanks, Miles
  11. With Defraggler running if use the run command, a window reads it's already running. Nothing seen in the banner bar. Then used the run command without Defraggler running and when opened it read "debug" in the banner bar. The program crashed and I went to it's folder in WinExpl and there is no .log file. However, there is a .txt file which presumably is the log you are speaking of, so I've attached it. (But not certain if this is the log of running E or D, but looking reading it it appears cumulative. With a little luck, you decipher why it crashes when running on E drive, else perhaps you could tell me how to return to the prior version which ran fine. defraggler.exe._1_5_111__2008_12_07_16_34_.txt defraggler.exe._1_5_111__2008_12_07_16_34_.txt
  12. Your instructions quote: 1 - If you installed Defraggler in the default location, * Press and hold the Start button and press R (opens the Run window) * Cut an paste this "C:\Program Files\Defraggler\defraggler.exe" /debug * Press enter unquote That only works if the Run command is in the start menu. I, and perhaps others, removed it along with some other clutter because I simply use the standard shortcut windows key/R. And when the Run window opens, I paste in your command.

Run some checks on your Hard Drive. Then try "Defraggler". If you have problems follow the directions in this link. http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?showtopic=12840 davey It would appear that I replied in the wrong place -- msg 34 in the list I went to for directions, so will also post here. Defraggler is installed in the default location and pasted the statement into the Run window which opened Defragger and a small window reading "No updates available." And no log appears in the Defraggler folder and do not see "Debug" in the Defraggler lower status bar.
