  1. But "The WebAtom" hasn't visited this forum after 2021.
  2. More information: https://www.tweaking.com/ https://www.tweaking.com/author/shane/ https://singularlabs.com/ https://shanegowland.com/about/singularlabs/ @APMichael also seem to work for "Singular Labs" ???
  3. - It seems the website Tweaking.com now has a new owner. As far as I can tell the new owner is connected to the program "CCEnhancer". Does anyone has more information ?
  4. Well. that article doesn't reflect my experiences with my SSD. I have regularly recovered files from my internal SSD. Perhaps my version of Windows doesn't support TRIM yet ? I also have noticed that Windows does some odd things I can't explain, when I move files around om my SSD (with Piriform's Defraggler). Did you enable "System Restore" ? That also has his own (and for me unknown) logic and also can gobble up A LOT OF diskspace (e.g. in the $ MFT).
  5. How much free space do you have on your HD / SSD ? The less free space you have the more likely it is that the file entries are over written and the entries in e.g. the $MFT are overwritten by newer entries. It's because Windows will have to make do with a smaller $MFT with fewer entries. Did you also "Shift Delete" the "Downloads" folder itself ?
  6. Did you turn on "Windows System Restore" ? That will then trigger Windows to make a new System Restore Point (SRP) when Defraggler is running. You can check it with a program WIZTREE (from Antibody Software). See how large the folder "system volume information" is. You can delete one or more of those SRPs with Piriform's CCleaner. One other possibility is to turn off "System Restore" and then turn it on again.
  7. A new update for this problem. With the latest version of CC it seems this problem has been solved. CC still reports RP related files to wiped but the amount of files is now much lower. See picture attached. Does anyone know whether the CC program code for RP has been improved ? (I must admit that I also have used CCEnhancer to increase the amount of entries for CC)
  8. i assume that Wordpad stores those files in "Documents" ? Or perhaps Wordpad uses shortcuts to point to those files and then CCleaner removes those shortcuts (from e.g. "Recent files) ? So, the files themsleves could be still there.
  9. - Do you know in which folder(s) Wordpad stores those files ? Then add those folders or filetypes (e.g. *.txt) to the program to be excluded from being deleted. - Perhaps you can solve this by unticking the proper "Wordpad" box in Ccleaner ?
  10. Outlook Express Classic (PRO) has now advanced to version v4.1.1. The latest version has improved support for IMAP. This version was released yesterday (June 6, 2023).
  11. I have an update for this "problem" with REAL Player. I was forced to re-install Windows 7 after a serious problem that couldn't be fixed. Before I re-installed Windows, CC (version v6.11 ?? or v6.12 ??) came up with 2 entries (see 1st picture above). Can't remember if I made some modifications to "winapp2.ini". I upgraded from RP v20 to RP v22 and then decided to re-install RP v20. It seems the removal program/tool didn't remove all files/folder/registry entries from Windows and as a result of that CC thought that there were 2 versions of RP installed ("Real Player 20" and "Real player". After the re-install of Windows 7 I also installed RP (v20.1.0.313) and then CC (v6.12.10490) only came up with only 1 entry called "RP 20". This is with the default version of CC and the version of "winapp2.ini" that came with CC v6.12.
  12. Some more thoughts about this issue: - In the picture above the 2 entries for REAL Player (RP) don't clean the same amount of files and therefore report a different total size of files to be cleaned. I simply would take the "build-in" script for the 2nd entry and use it for the 1st entry as well. This assumes that the script for "RP 20" targets the same folders & files as the 2nd script for RP. Needs more attention from the developers of CC. - In the picture above CC shows 2 entries for "Faststone Capture", yet CC only shows one entry in the list on the right hand side. Odd, very odd. Needs more investigation on why this happens. - There is a difference between whether or not RP is running or not. In the picture above CC says that it can clean more than 370 MB of temporary RP related files when RP is not running. But when RP is running then CC (wihtout closing RP) reported that only some 230 MB (when I remember correctly but still A LOT) of temporary files can be cleaned. Odd, very odd. Also needs some more attention for the developers of CC.
  13. I have another question related to the usage of Google Chrome. See the picture attached. I usually use CC every say 1 or 2 days. Recently I decided to wait more days before cleaning all the temporary files of e.g. Chrome. To my surprise CC found - over the course of say 5 days - more than 4.800 temporary files or more than 500 MB of temporary files (black arrow). Is this normal for a program called Chrome to create this large amount of temporary files ? To be honest: REAL PLAYER (RP) also has adapted the Chrome style of storing temporary files and RP also seems to suffer from the same "disease". RP also created a surprisingly large amount of temporary files in the same timeframe (more than 370 MB). See the red arrows. (CC reports the same amount of files to be cleaned for RP twice because CC has 2 entries for RP. See the 2 blue arrows.)
  14. Recently I noticed that in CC the amount of options for removing obsolete / temporary files created by Chrome have been reduced / halved. See the picture. Inside the red rectangle there are 11 options. But I clearly recall that in some previous version of CC there were more options the user was able to select. That confused me because there were so many options to be selected that I just ticked randomly a number of boxes. Then I always hoped I wouldn't cause too much damage to Chrome. In that regard I do appreciate this reduction of the amount boxes. I also noticed that this also happened to the cleaning options of MS Edge. Can anyone confirm that here the developers of CC indeed have combined a number of cleaning options for Chrome - in previous versions of CC - in/under fewer options ? Or is now CC simply ignoring A LOT OF cleaning options by not showing and therefore not allowing the user to select these options ? Don't get me wrong. I certainly do appreciate if with one option (e.g. "Chrome Internet cache") multiple Chrome caches can be cleaned because it reduces the amount of confusion surrounding all these options. In that regard this combining of multiple cleaning options certainly will help /has helped to make the program more user friendly.
  15. (This is a "long long shot") - Do you have "Tweaking's Windows Repair" installed ? If so, do you (regularly) run that program ? This program removes (in one special situation) these 2 sub-folders. - What folders do you clean with the option "Custom Folders" (is marked as "True") ?
  16. - A very good reason to NEVER use the program !!!!!!!!!!!
  17. - PITA: Ah, of course, should have thought of that earlier. Indeed, a polite way of saying those words. - Thanks.
  18. - I posted a complaint about this RP issue on the Real Player website. - What is "PITA" ???
  19. - I stopped the processes "MsEdgeWebview2.exe" and then CC listed those files called "DataXX" to be deleted. These files were also deleted by CC. Kudos for CC !!!!!!
  20. - Here is another problem with Real Player. - I also have MS Edge installed. As a result a few processes called "MSEdgeWebview2.exe" (see also the picture above) are running all the time. But somehow one of this processes is preventing CC from removing a few files (e.g. Data_1, Data_2, Data_3, .............. ) that are located in the following path: %LocalAppData%\Real\RealPlayer\EBWebView\Default\Cache\Cache_Data\ - I have to manually stop these processes in order to let CC remove these "data_**" files. - Any comments ? Any suggestions ?
  21. Some more / final ??? thoughts regarding this problem: - I must confess that I didn't like the GUI of the 2 latest versions of RP and went back to the version before that. I still have the last 5 or 6 original RP installation files (I know how to find those original RP installation files. Just look, after installation, for a program called "setup.exe". with a size of about 65 MB). - The 1st RP line ("RP 20") hasn't got an asterix. So, I would assume that the "RP 20" cleaning code is included in the standard program code of CC. - With the latest version of CC installed I also have a CC icon in the system tray. That also could be the reason why this odd behaviour shows up. - As mentioned before: This one question "RP 20 needs to be closed ............ " doesn't show up the 1st time I run CC after starting my laptop. When I close and restart CC, then CC will ask that one question when I let CC analyze my laptop for the 1st time. When I close RP (then the process "Realplay.exe" disappears) then CC doesn't complain about closing RP. See the 2 pictures attached. This picture also shows that there is only a slight difference between the 2 cleaning scripts in CC for RP. - i continue to think that the embedded code for RP in CC (I assume there is such code) contains a bug. As a result of that bug CC doesn't ask that one question the first time I run CC.
  22. - No, I didn't install both versions. I installed 1st the older version and then when a new version of RP was released I installed the newer version. I assume that the new installation differs (slightly) from the older version. Different registry entries and/or files ? If you're interested I still have the original installation files of both RP versions. (I always keep a copy of the last say 5 versions of RP). - Tried a few times more to clean "RP 20" related files. There is certainly a pattern. As said before, when I do this for the 1st time (after re-starting my laptop) then CC won't show that message. When I want to do this for a 2nd, 3rd, 4th time then CC will show that message !!!! This is for the "RP 20" entry. - But the "RP" entry does never ask that one question. That entry simply always seem to clean the RP related files. As said before the amount and size of the "RP" files to be deleted is about the same as the amount & size of the "RP 20" files. - So, that suggests that the "build-in" "RP 20" script does contain some code that makes CC ask that one question.
  23. - So "RP 20" is "build in" in the program code ? The build-in script for "RP 20" seems to be doing slightly less cleaning than the other "RP" entry. And they both seem to target the same folders/files. That's why CC overstates the amount of files & diskspace to be freed in this one particualr case. - What remains is that CC doesn't ask the user whether or not "RP 20" should be closed the 1st time I run CC. CC simply says "Skipped". See picture above. And that could be a bug.
  24. - I am still using REAL Player (RP) as my favourite media player because it has one feature I REALLY like. - But CC dispalys some odd behaviour with RP. See the picture attached. 1)) RP shows up twice in the list with applications and in the list with files to be deleted, While I only see one entry in Winapp2.ini. Is this the result of remnants of a previous version in the registry of somewhere on my laptop ? Or is there a special program code that's dedicated to RP ? 2)) When I run CC for the first time and RP is running then CC seems to detect that "RP 20" is still running but CC won't ask me to close the program. But at the same time it doesn't mind that "RP" is running and shows the amount of files to be deleted (red rectangle) 3)) When I want to let CC delete those files listed/detected the CC WILL ask me to close RP 20 but it won't ask met close RP (see inside red rectangle) Any idea of what is happening here ? To be fixed in a future version of CC ?
  25. - New version of OEC available. It's the long awaited version v4.00 (PRO & FREE version).
