Is anyone here who uses eMule able to guide me through setting it up? I've tried asking for help on the eMule forums but they just send me to the help section, which doesn't make any sense to me. They talk in jargon and seem to assume the user has a knowledge of the terminology they use. I - on the other hand - am a complete novice and don't understand it.

Thanks for that. I've been chatting on the eMule forum, but I'm now more confused than ever! They obviously mean well, but I don't know what they mean by ports and private Ip etc. I'm just looking for a basic Janet and John idiot's guide - the help section on eMule just gives me a headache!

I've been advised not to have these two real-time protection programs working at the same time. Which one should I keep?

I've actually deleted the whole "UnreadMail" entry - was that safe to do?

Thanks, Glenn. I'm a bit of a novice with the registry. Can you you talk me through how I do it? Thanks again!

I installed MSN Messenger, but uninstalled it because I didn't like it. But now when I start my computer and I get to the Windows log-in screen, beneath my name it says how many unopened Hotmails I have. This is before I have even signed into my User Account, let alone signed into Hotmail. How can I get rid of this?

Thanks, Admiral. I had to customise the toolbar. Never knew you could do that!
-
It simply does not appear on the Tools menu (although I can use the Word Count toolbar). It's the only difference between the two administrator accounts, as far as I can see.

I have Microsoft Office installed. But for some reason, one of the two administrator accounts on the computer does not have access to the Word Count facility. I can see no other differences between the two administrator accounts. I have reinstalled Microsoft Office but I can't solve the problem. Any ideas?

I have a number of files that have always played fine in both Media Player Classic and Windows Media Player (although I almost always use Media Player Classic). I have loaded them on to Xdrive.com, which seems to have worked OK. But today I downloaded a couple of them back on to my computer from Xdrive.com, and they don't play as well. One of them freezes about a minute into the video; and if you try to scroll the timebar forward, again the footage freezes. I've been back to the original files which are still on my hard drive and they work fine. So I guess what I'm asking here is: What might have happened to the files between being uploaded to Xdrive.com and then being downloaded back to my computer to stop them working as well?

Just in case anyone is interested, I uninstalled .NET and then reinstalled it, rebooting after each stage, and then finally the update worked. Before that, neither manual or automatic updates worked. Thanks - as ever - for all your help, guys.

I already have SP2. This is just some patch that won't be installed for some reason. I'm not fussed that it won't install - I just want rid of the system tray icon.

An icon has appeared in my system tray telling me there is a Windows update available. When I try to install it, it says the update was unable to be installed. But then the system tray icon reappears, again telling me there is an update available. So the process goes round and round. How can I make the icon disappear?

I have a whole load of video clips, music and other files that I want to store somewhere, as my hard drive is rapidly filling up. I know I can buy an external drive, but is there a facility whereby I can store my files online instead? If so, what's the best place in terms of cost, size and security? Whoops - looks like I can't even spell "storage" properly . . .

Thanks guys. In answer to Mike, it's about 14 months old.

The internal fan on my Dell laptop has started making a whining noise when it operates. It this normal? Is it worth me opening up the laptop and seeing if the fan is OK?

I've got the problem right now. I'll test it, if you'd like.

There's something else. There are two administrators on this computer, but it is only me who gets the message. BUT . . . I don't know if this is linked, but the other adminstrator has, bizarrely, lost the word count from her Tools menu in Word. So I get the Remove Hidden Data tool message and a word count option, whil the other administator gets no such message but no word count! What's going on?
-
Ah - I see what you mean now. Anyway, I've deleted the file that started with a ~ and I've renamed Normal.dot, but the Remove Hidden Data tool message is still popping up whenever I open Word. Do you, or does anyone else, have any other ideas?
