  1. Have i understood correctly. You want ccleaner to back up the junk it deletes? Would be a bit counter productive would you not agree?
  2. Off topic: Just a warning i went around to fix my dads pc a few months ago. They was using BT yahoo browser. It is the most un secure piece of crap i have ever seen. I would replace it immediately. I would suggest installing firefox or opera http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/ http://www.opera.com/
  3. hahahaha, Glad to see i was not the only one thinking Themes where?
  4. Welcome to the forum I'm sorry you are having issues, it's hard what to say, For one the text is black on a white background, and the green is just headers above the post. It interferes with me none what so ever.
  5. Firstly are the browser processes terminated? Check this under task manger (ctrl-alt-del) process - process.exe(process = process name) Although i think it's more of a case you have saved your passwords to the browser and it is prompting you to enter them. I can't speak for these browsers as i dont use them but are you sure it's not predictive suggestions being suggested when you type. For example in firefox i have no saved data but if i start to type ch i will be displayed with predictive search options

    Ccleaner missing

Could be a number of reasons why. Just go to start menu - ccleaner or C:\Program Files\CCleaner - right click the cclener.exe and create short cut and drag and drop it back to your desktop

    Reg Errors?

Don't ever be fooled into thinking just because an application displays thousands of errors to fix that it will be better. There are MORE over aggressive registry cleaners out there then safe ones. CCLEANER is safe as registry cleaning can be deemed safe. All it takes is an over aggressive cleaner to delete one wrong key, which could leave your system un boot able. This is what is worring. You have downloaded and installed an application. Scanned - 1200 REGISTRY entries displayed to be fixed - FIX You have just clicked fixed on 1200 registry keys to be deleted and you have no idea what these are for. JUst one can cause fatal errors as i said before. If you must scan stick with ccleaner. But ask your self why are you registry cleaning? Is it because the net is filled with ad's about registry cleaning saying it will improve performance by x1000? Please take care when researching. The net is filled with so much crap it's un real. No matter how silly you might think a question is. Just ask here. No one will laugh, and no one will give you bad information. Final note you should always make a back up of the registry before making any changes. May i suggest ERUNT http://www.larshederer.homepage.t-online.de/erunt/ Starts silently at system start up, Backs up. Then closes.
  9. why on earth would you install 5k applications in one weekend. I don't want to go off topic but i'm curious to what you do with them all. Also uninstalling 5k apps with the built in uninstaller - Thats some left over crap
  10. If you wanted a discussion on secure file deletion why not just start your own thread? I assume you could post as long as paragraphs as you like then since it's your own thread. Peoples own choice to read it or not
  11. I love vb personally. It grew on my from a young age when msn chat rooms where open around 1999. My dads friend made on my behalf the authentication to connect to msn's gatekeeper. Then the rest i learned my self. Good old vb6. That lead me on to connecting mIRC to msn chat rooms. So that was my first scripting language. Picking up vbscript was easy. Mixed that with html obviously. I started learning asp.net but did not really like the syntax. So now i just stick to vb.net and started php. I need to learn xml better though for vb.
  12. right click the saved back up - Merge
  13. In simple, if your school allows you to install it. Then yes you are allowed to use it. CCleaner is freeware. There is no paid version. Happy using
  14. I hate parenthesis, brackets and braces like that off of the C Languages. That's why i chose to study PHP. Oh....
  15. IE C:\Documents and Settings\<USER>\Cookies FF C:\Documents and Settings\<USER>\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<PROFILE>.default cookies.sqlite cookies.txt dont know about others edit sorry i miss read your reply I know the entry is stored in the registry HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Piriform\CCleaner\CookiesToSave "<here>" If you are comfortable using the registry then you can use that. If not you may be able to do it with the .ini file. But i know nothing about that so another user will have to assist.
  16. May i just ask. Is this thread still continuing because this "one" time you uninstalled ccleaner. Reinstalled and rather then default it used your custom settings?
  17. I'm very much aware what the user wanted. As i stated above. Commandlineargs() to invoke ccleaner as a bg worker. Then invoke chosen applications uninstaller.... I really am not understanding "if you install or use thousands of programs" bit. Where are all these exe's laying around installed? Program files? Surely not next to there own uninstaller? How can an application name be hard to remember? If you are on focus to it by being able to right click surely you can remember it's name? If i had a ton of applications installed and could not remember it's name...How am i going to navigate to it to right click uninstall? I can't see how it could say any time. If i did not need an application any more it takes 2 seconds to start the uninstaller process.... All this of course is ignoring alans comment about correctly uninstalling an application.
  18. How do the contradict each other? WebAtom said the file it is cleaning which by the log posted is nested under the directory \Backups\ I said it would be disappointing if a file could read/write/delete to a Antivirus backup location Go to options - exclude and add the file it's halting on. You wont be losing anything in completeness as you put it. Maybe some more information here for you http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?showtopic=9901
  19. Would be disappointing if an AV allowed access to it's backup folder
  20. Debatable? It's m$ coding standards now. Just to expand on Nergals post. Vista and higher takes special permissions to write to Program Files. Programs live here. Not data. Imagine if any one could just write to this location? replacing important exe. Microsoft now suggests 3 places to consider. Common AppData, which is shared by all users Non-roaming AppData, which is specific to the computer. Roaming AppData, which will be part of a user's profile if they are on a domain. Roaming AppData would be best considered here. Would ensure users who had the program installed on multiple computers on a domain, the settings would not needed to be set up on each machine Just realized i'm going off topic here so i will end here. sorry
  21. I think my javascript skills will be coming out tomorrow, see what i can knock up to shrink your posts
  22. I know i linked you to this thread to read my opinion on forensic data removal but was it necessary to bump a 4 month old thread that was started by a blatant troll who never come back?
  23. Applications should not be writing to Program files. Application data is more suitable.
