The current version of ccleaner doesn't have a checklist for me to remove frequent folders from the quick access list in file explorer and yet retain the default ones such as pictures, videos etc. The frequent folders list can become quite long and I must delete them manually vs. relying on ccleaner to do it.

Their offline uninstallers cleaner tools vs. the one that comes with the product fixed everything vs. me having to spend all day doing it by hand along with deleting everything in the registry. I came across the "sc" command I had forgotten about and it might have worked, but by then I had already run the uninstaller tools based on your weblink. Perhaps ccleaner can add the "sc" command as a right_click in the tools services area like one can do for the startup entries since one may have forgotten about it or don't know about. I.e. sc <the service name> delete

I had Acronis image software which I removed. I disabled the scheduler2 service so it wont startup. However, the current ccleaner free version doesn't allow me to remove the service or any other service even when advanced mode is checked. If this is in the registry or somewhere on the disk drive, give ccleaner the ability to remove it from the service list. I can remove acronis startup entries without problem.

First problem. I have the dropbox program installed and want to disable it from starting up using ccleaner. I've disabled anything on the various startup tabs that says dropbox; however, dropbox is getting started since windows task manager startup shows dropbox enabled. I can then disable it in windows task manager. So ccleaner has no entry for what windows sees. ccleaner entry that is one of the items disabled but is similar to the one task manager sees: No HKLM:Run Dropbox Dropbox, Inc. "C:\Program Files (x86)\Dropbox\Client\Dropbox.exe" /systemstartup But windows task manager points to the same directory and program but selecting properties doesn't show the switch like above. I can enable and disable dropbox in the task manager but it doesn't showup or change status in the ccleaner startup. So things are out of sync. Second problem I have installed is Jedit. I've disabled the only entry in ccleaner No HKLM:Run jEdit Server Contributors "C:\Program Files\jEdit\jedit.exe" -background -nogui --l4j-dont-wait However, windows task manager shows it enabled on startup. I can then enable disable it from starting up there. The task manager is pointing here C:\Program Files\jEdit\jedit.exe Third problem is, I have a batch file that logs me into a sharepoint website on startup using net use. Ccleaner doesn't show the batch file name in windows startup tab so that I can enable/disable it there. However windows task manager shows it in startup. I can enable/disable it in task manager but not in ccleaner. Not all startup programs/batch files are in the various %appdata% locations such as default or a user. In this case the batch file is in this location. C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

To add to the above. Malwarebytes adware tool and another from TSA didn't find anything either. So the ISearch registry entry may be just a fluke registry entry thats gone now.

Used Malwarebytes to quarantine the entries and the delete them. Surprised a registry clean/repair program such as auslogics couldn't completely remove its own registry entries vs. the purpose of the tool was to cleanup other peoples messes. So thats what happens when one runs multiple registry cleaner/repair tools to make up for deficiences between related tools let alone those that detect registry performance issues that when fixed, are undone by other registry tools that think that an issue exists. Other registry tools I've used awhile back are iobit.com tool that claims to find and cleanup leftover registry entries from uninstalls. Reran ccleaner file and registry cleanup. It idn't find anything. So the files and registry entries are gone. Now onto the ISearch toolbar issue since ccleaner found and removed one registry entry whereas malwarebytes didn't find anything - not even the registry entry for it. Is ISearch a leftover of some program installed in the past? I have AVAST antivir and it didn't complain either. But since none of the above software RESTOR and auslogics registry cleaner are installed, I thought the purpose of CCleaners registry cleaner was to determine if the software was installed and then leave them alone (unless one uses ccleaners uninstall tool); otherwise, if registry data isn't associated with an installed program it finds it and asks to fix it - which is remove these extra entries. Not every installed program that when uninstalled removes all the registry entries it created but only some of them - which is poor software writing. I.e. CCleaner can find the unwanted program registry entry for ISearch even though no program is installed for it that I know of, and yet is is able to detect and remove the registry entry for it. For this case, malwarebytes doesn't detect the registry entry for it. From past info on ISearch it is a form of malware/spyware.

Windows 8.1 on laptop with ccleaner v6.0.7 At one time I had RESTORO installed from www.restoro.com It was removed; however, malwarebytes can find RESTORO registry settings as if they are malware. But when I run ccleaner, registry cleaner, it can't find the registry settings for RESTORO. Also auslogis registry cleaner was removed and CCleaner doesn't find all the resgistry settings to remove; but malwarebytes does find them but treats this software as malware. I've attached the registry info that malwarebytes found but ccleaner didn't find so that they may be removed from the registry CCLeaner_Registry_notfound.txt

In IE8 under the options->complete there is an autocomplete settings button. Once clicked there are various check boxes for autocomplete. However, ccleaner has only the checkbox for autocomplete forms and none of the others under address bar including the usernames & passwords, The same for firefox there is no option to clear the address bar history which would be set as favorites, address bar or nothing. These fall under options->privacy-> location bar. I can't find the equivalent under chrome although it saves address bar info and is displayed to to the user under the drop down arrow. Thus, ccleaner latest version needs a fix to remove all this history that is stored in the address bar of the varous browsers. The same probably is true for in privacy filtering too.....

for speccy v1.24.632 the timezone language title shows "Arabic (U.A.E)". This title "language" is misleading since the control panel for regional and language options calls this "Language for non-unicode programs". If one just see language and one knows they have everything set for English, then one would think there is a bug in speccy since they'd expect to see English. Moreover, I have every language setting for windows XP Home enabled, that includes all keyboards, and code pages with the option checked to make the language settings available as the "default for all user accounts" (speccy doesn't show this check box nor the code pages and keyboards i have activated). Also speccy doesn't show the last time a usb flash device was installed into the computer although it may not be plugged in currently. Speccy detects that I have internet explorer and the version # installed, but it doesn't detect alternate browsers such as firefox and chrome and their versions. Speccy doesn't detect what search engines, flashplayers and shockwave players versions I have installed (pluggins and activeX). Display all browser pluggins and their versions, and dates installed and last used.

When one repairs their network connection, it clears the NetBT, DNS cache and ARP. Make it an option to clean these using ccleaner on shutdown. Recently it was posted on other websites that elcomsoft(?) has a tool now that can recover the encryption keys from Truecyrpt by scanning the Virtural drive caches that Windows saves to disk since the encryption keys are stored in memory and are swapped to disk occasionally, and when one goes into hibernate or shtudown, memory is dumped to this windows virtual drive caches and the keys can be recovered from it. Thus, need ccleaner to clean all the virtual disk caches on hibernate or shutdown to destory the contents of this file using multiple pass overwrites to eliminate this problem.

However, the cpu core frequency and internal voltage changes with graphing aren't shown. Although the stock core/bus speed are shown. See cpuid since once can see the voltages and cpu freqs changing with loading. Fan speed - as the computer is being loaded the fan comes on/off and changes speed. The program "speedfan" can show on some systems the fan rpm speeds and as they change. Have Speccy show the fans speed changing along with a graphing. This would be useful to compare CPU temp against fan speed so one can know the relationship of when the fans turn on/off or change speed. Graphics. - show temperature of graphics chips with graphing. Network - I'm connected with a wi-fi on a compaq presario v5306us with broadcomm minipci. However, speccy tells me under the heading "wi-fi info" states it isn't enabled although the wifi is turned on and down loading. If I turn the wifi button off to stop transmitting, it still says it is not enabled. - need to show bytes received transmitted with graphing. Speccy currently does kbps, but one can't tell anything from this. The kbps isn't even in kbps received or transmitted as separate numbers and graphics. Can't detect and show devices in express port. I.e. sd micro flash chips and their size in bytes. Cant dectect devices such as usb adaptors inserted into express port. Unless this is under peripherals disk drive without the size value.

It also doesn't show the battery full time - whatever this means. This could be the estimated time to full recharge. If this is so then a better name should be used i.e. "ETA to full charge". Likewise, the other filed could be "ETA to full discharge". One can estimate this based on timestamping the 100% and when it reaches 99% charge get the system clock and timestamp that value. Using simple math one can compute the rate of discharge and estimate time remaining. Since the rate of discharge can be variable based on cpu and hardware loading one will have to recompute the estimated time remaining. see www.passmark.com batterymon program. It gives the data that speccy should, along with a graph showing discharge or charging of the battery. Speccy can do the graphing if this option was added. Moreover, the battery has an internal count of the number of recharge cycles. Usually when it reaches 300 recharges, (or about two years), the batteries need to be replaced. Thus one should be able to read the battery pack via the smbus and read this count along with other prestored date in the internal battery pack flash chip that would be of interest to the user of Speccy. Moreover, the program "speedfan", shows a "temp1" value. Their usage of this by them is that it means the ACPI temperature. That is this is the temperature of the battery pack or any of the power electronics (if it has temp probes).

Well, the other interpretation of this value is hexadecimal with the 'h' on the end to denote it as such. Hence, this could have been a mistake in displaying the data when one meant to display it as ASCII. Therefore, "1d1" could've been the hexadecimal value and the 'h' on the end marking it has hexadecimal.

System is Windows XP home with a western digital pata laptop drive. Here are the latest problem with v2.8.373. The temperature in the health tab is reported in Celsius under the "Real value" column although I selected the temp to be reported in Fahrenheit which is displayed in the temperature position to the left of this table. Thus, correct the unit-of-measure to be Fahrenheit in the "Real value" column if one selects Fahrenheit. Both temp values should match unit-of-measure wise. The other problem is the power on hours. Why does it show 1d1h and not in decimal here for 'h' hours. Unless 1d1h means "1 day" and "1 hour"??

The current version of ccleaner allows one to enable/disable and delete startup programs. a). Ccleaner doesn't allow one to edit a startup program to correct a directory path that changed. .Ccleaner doesn't allow one to add a startup program with directory path and program specified by the user. c). CCleaner doesn't show startup programs where the key and the program name are blank or null. I had to use other programs that showed me this so that I could delete these bogus startup programs that I didn't know were there. The problem of where to put the page file either at the beginning, the middle or the end of the drive partition would be ok if it was a fixed size. however, here are the issues to resolve, a). The Windows Operating system allows one to change the page file size manually. Moreover, the page file size on disk is chosen typically to be 2x the maximum amount of memory currently installed in the PC, but is limited by the amount of disk storage available. Thus i.e if memory is 8 gigs, but the HDD is 4 gigs then the page file size has to be chosen such that it fits on the HDD. This isn't so much an issue for PCs today. b ). the other problem is when the HDD has sector failures. It could be the few bad sectors are in the beginning, middle or end of the drive. The HDD would remap a good sector in and thus the drive head would have to jump to the good sector and then back to where the other ones are to continue it's paging operations. I'd like the MFT and page file to reside together too, but one must consider the other factors mentioned above too.

I have Windows XP Home and Defraggler v2.07.346. Here are the problems with drive health status and the type of drive information being posted. A). Allow one to click on the drive temperature so that it displays in Fahrenheit. If one clicks the temperature again it changes to Celisus. Thus for every click on the temperature, it switches back and forth between Fahrenheit/Celisus. I presume if the temperature starts going up, that at a medium temperature the color changes to "yellow" and when it goes above the safe manufacturers spec, it changes to "red". . I have a Western Digital USB My Passport Essential SE which is is USB 2.0 only. The info on the labels of the case show the following PN#, and SN#. Western Digitals latest smartware s/w v1.5.1.6 shows the following SN# and Firmware # which was upgraded today using Western Digitals Firmware Updater v3.1.0.11. It will download from the internet the latest firmware which upgraded mine from v2.011 to v2.019 (the firmware version downloaded depends on the label on the back of the case or the PN# ending in "-00" vs. "-01". I also have another USB2.0/3.0 which end in "-01" so the firmware version upgraded from v1.003 to v1.007). Here is my drive labels for the USB2.0 only drive: PN#: WDBABM0010BBK-00, SN#: WX31A70S4014T, revision/release # R/N: B9B Here is what the WD Smartware software says it is: SN# WX31A70S4014 (it drops the 'T' although when one registers the drive using this s/w, the return email from WD shows the missing 'T') This is a bug in the smartware s/w v1.5.1.6 Firmware #: 2.019 Here is what defraggler reports in the current version under health: SN#:WD-WX31A70S4014 (defraggler drops the 'T' also, Thus increase the character length from 12 to 13 for the info being displayed.) PN#: WDC WD10TMVV-11BG7S0 (where is Defraggler getting this PN? It doesn't match the one on my drive label) Firmware #: 01.01A01 (This is wrong. Where is Defraggler getting this firmware #?) C). A similiar problem on my new My Passport Essential SE USB2.0/3.0 occurs between the Drives label, the smartware version vs what Defraggler reports. D). I also have a compaq internal 80Gig Western Digital IDE drive on a V5306US laptop model. I know the drive is nearing its end-of-life due to the number of sector reallocates. However, Western Digitals tool called "Western Digital Data Lifeguard Diagnostics for Windows" states that it is a "fail" for this drive because of the Smart drive health info being reported. If I look at the info being reported here is what it shows, for current/worst and threshold. The value is 140 for all of these. Their tools highlights the Current value in red; however, defraggler shows the drive is good. Moreover, the latest version of WD's smartware tool shows the drive as passing when one runs their quick diag test. So is the drive out of sectors to rellocate or not? I presume the reason why the various s/w programs give different results is because it is on the border (but has not crossed it) due the values equaling the threshold value. E). Since defraggler shows poweron count and hours as data for informational purposes, can you also extract and show the sector reallocates values as a threshold in various colors of green/yellow/red to designate to the user that the drive may be approaching its end-of-life before catastrophe occurs? I presume you also color code the displayed SMART data to show the user what data may cause the drive to fail. F) It would be nice to have defraggler run in the background defragging based on low processor loads similar to what www.iobit.com s/w called smartdefrag v2.2.x can do? Moreover, they can analyze and defrag multiple drives simultaneously vs. just one at a time. Defraggler should have this capability too!

To bad, the current version doesn't support windows 2000. I too have this OS and was trying to update it from the one around June 2010. I just downloaded the last one supported for w2k as v1.21.209. I also have all of these OS', W2K, XP, Vista, Win7 and MACOS. Moreover, non-of my computers are connected to the internet so security issues aren't a big issue. They are used for old and new application development and interoperability testing for apps that need to work together in a multi-MSoft OS environment. Now, for Unix and Linux... that is a different issue and piriform doesn't support the Unix's. Be aware that piriforms'other software products still support to this day windows 2000. I.E. Recuva, and CCleaner thank god!! Just not, Defraggler. Hmmm.....!

Hmmm, I guess what you are doing is mounting a disk(s) onto directories on another disk to make only one drive look like a bigger drive. I wonder if defraggers in general are smart enough to handle this. This raises another question on defragging Software and Hardware RAID disks which also allow one to combine multiple drives to look like one hard drive to the user and OS. I.E. Logical Volumes vs. physical Volumes. Can defraggers handle this scenario too?

Be careful not to install this software on the disk drive you are trying to undelete files from. since it may use the data blocks on the disk thinking they are free to use, but it may be the locations of the datablocks of the file you are trying to recover.

Assuming the safeboot file was moved somewhere on the disk and the MBR doesn't know where it is you may want to consider the following. There are disk editors out there (i.e. Acronis Disk Director) or free ones which allow one to do a raw edit of the disk track by track and sector by sector. The data could be displayed in raw mode or hex mode. Thus, one starts at location zero where the MBR is at to find out where it thinks the disk drive sector location is for the safeboot file. Then reading the directory structures, one locates the safeboot file and reads the starting disk location of where it currently is at. Now that one knows the current location, one can modify the MBR data entry with this new location so that when you save and exit it will now know were to go. A Problem with the above method. Because the drive is encrypted, the raw data that you see in the editor will also will be scrambled/encrypted and perhaps the data too for the MBR. Hence the above method will not work for encrypted drives, but only for those that don't have it which then makes the safeboot file problem not a problem since one wouldn't have it installed if the disk wasn't encrypted. Maybe another way is to, a). bootup a second disk that has it's operating system encrypted with the same set of keys. b ). since both the new bootable OS and the non-Bootable disk use the same set of keys, one could (maybe) mount the non-bootable drive onto the good OS that was booted. c). Since the same keys are used and maybe encrypted the same way, one could see all the files that are important (i.e. company, personal files) and copy them off the mounted drive onto the good drive. After this is done one could just unmount it since one has all the important data. d). after doing this, one could just reformat the other bad drive or continue with the new one. The above are some possible thoughts that may work, or the only recourse is the vendor to help out. Note: Before doing any of the above, I would suggest imaging the bad drives data and saving it on another drive. Do the playing around of the bad OS, and should it not work or you do something wrong, you'd still have the copy of the original bad disk drive as a disk image which could be restored back to the drive to keep playing around forever.

The latest version of defraggler doesn't display the names for removable drives given to them. What it displays for each drive that is removable is the word "removable disk" with the corresponding drive letter. Thus the word " 31/2 Floppy Drive", or "Zip Drive" or any name given to flash drives aren't shown in defraggler. One thing that really works in defraggler vs. other defragmentation software is that it shows all removable disk drives i.e. floppies, zip, flash in the list and when no disk is inserted, it shows zero bytes with the filesystem "unknown". If one tries to force a defrag on this drive, a popup is displayed telling one it can't do it. Othe defraggers just ignore removable drives or just crash. So defraggler does this properly...

Ok, tested 618 CCleaner on windows 2k pro sp4 and the list of MSoft hotfixes do showup, however, the security , updates and service packs don't. For .NET and msmxl hotfixes and service packs, they show up. My guess is CCleaner isn't pointing to the correct registry entries for either MSoft XP or 2K OS' that contain a list of all the hotfixes , updates, security and service pack entries along with their locations on the drive. Can somebody verify this with Vista since I don't have that OS. I'll try to check with a friend to see if this works who has it.
