  1. I assume you have SpywareBlaster installed. It prevents the installation of ActiveX-based spyware, adware, browser hijackers, dialers, and other potentially unwanted software. It blocks spyware/tracking cookies in Internet Explorer and Mozilla/Firefox. Restricts the actions of potentially unwanted sites in Internet Explorer. Additionaly under: tools > flashkiller > check the "disable and block macromedia flash in Internet Explorer" You can uncheck the box whenever it is needed and then recheck when done. Also when flash is installed be sure to set the Local Storage Settings to 0. I know that CCleaner used to delete the preferences set for Macromedia Flash. I do not know if that is still the case. If so, uncheck the macromedia checkbox when running CCleaner.

    Ability Office

I think i would use Open Office before Ability. Unless there is something I am missing.
  3. I use winrar as well. Although after 30 days you should pay for it or put up with the nag screens.
  4. I think that he is saying that by leaving his IM program turned on that he is open to attacks. You can leave your IM program on all day and do not worry. As long as you don't "direct connect" or some such you will be fine.
  5. I would consider going here for a step by step guide to getting cleaned: http://www.dslreports.com/faq/8428
  6. My friend needs an office suite installed on her computer. I am not sure if we should use the stable 1.1.4 or the latest snapshot build of of the 2.0 beta. She will probably only use the word processing program. She will be slow to upgrade from the beta to newer releases. What have been your experiences with the 2.0 beta? 1.1.4: http://download.openoffice.org/1.1.4/index.html 2.0 Beta: http://download.openoffice.org/680/index.html
  7. Well the good news is i figured out how to load the raid drivers without it. I built this computer myself. I had purchased the floppy drive OEM from the PC Club down the road. I have an extra drive I can try swapping and seeing if it works. I don't use the drive that often. I pretty much only use it to run DBAN or load drivers. It is around 1.5 years old. And as I mentioned it just stopped working all of the sudden. This has been the most difficult reinstall ever. Even my slipstreamed xp sp2 disc was giving me errors. So on my third try I used my regular xp sp1 disc. And now I am haveing issues with my ethernet drivers.
  8. Yesterday my floppy drive worked. Today it does not. Device manager shows that there is a floppy drive installed and that it is working properly. But it does not access it. I tried booting with a floppy in the drive and it does not detect the disk. I put the several differant discs in the drive and when I select the A: my computer says "insert a disc in drive a." Despite haveing discs in there. The green activity light never comes on. I have already checked the wiring and everything is still plugged in nice and tight. What happened? My computer: LanParty UT nF3 250Gb Some OEM floppy drive Windows XP Pro fully patched (can't load DBAN either so not software)
  9. Now you are talking crazy. Get a girlfriend and you won't masterbate either?

    How to?

I am haveing the same issue on 2 different computers that I use. I have all the advanced options unchecked. Yet everytime I run the progam it erases all the recently used programs in the start menu. This only recently started. I updated to the 6/30/2005 winapp2.ini that is posted in the "Add a program to winapp2.ini, Add additional programs to CCleaner." thread. And that is when it started. Normandie are you using the winapp2.ini file?
  11. I set windows to Clear the Windows Paging File at Shutdown. If you do this then there is no need to defrag the page file. Because every time you restart your computer your page file is blank. At least that is my assumption.
  12. If you are running XP sp1 then "all updates" are not "made."
  13. The question is what do you have running resident or active? Personally I have 3 thrings running: antivirus, firewall, and UPS shutdown software. I do use various immunize functions and block lists but they do not effect system resources. You can add IE-Spyad and Ewido (can be used as free on demand scanner) to your list.
  14. Homepage says "Last updated on 28th June 2005". But I cannot find what was updated.
  15. I have used trillian and gaim. I prefer to use AIM. I don't understand why people use an older version. They make security updates, you really should upgrade. I know that there have been "remote execution" bugs that they have fixed. When you install AIM be sure to uncheck all the optional programs, and uninstall viewpoint media player. I also run AGNIS on my computer so I do not see advertisments in AIM or anywhere else.
  16. I would check out BitDefender Free Edition. It is on demand only; therefore, should not interfere with your resident scanner. Bitdefender has better detection rates than the free programs.

    winapp.ini files

What about additions to the programs listed in the in the winapp.ini file? For example in this post: http://forum.CCleaner.com/index.php?showtopic=1541&hl This additional cleaning for the spybot program is not included in the thread you linked to.
  18. Did you build your new computer?
  19. Have an option to overwrite files. "Wiping" them from the hard-drive. Secure deletion....
  20. Before=Windows Task Manager*****After=Process Explorer http://www.sysinternals.com/Utilities/ProcessExplorer.html Replaces Windows Task Manager. BUT lacks the "Networking" tab.
  21. Before=Microsoft Explorer*****After=xplorer? lite http://zabkat.com/x2lite.htm Dual pane explorer replacement. Before=NotePad & WordPad*****After=EditPad Lite http://www.editpadlite.com/editpadlite.html Tabs.
  22. I have not used cyberscrub but Eraser does everything it is supposed to; at least as well as any other program. And it is free. You can select it to overwrite any file or free space as many times as you want: 200 times or more (including the standard DOD wipes) if you are bored. It is not ment for cleaning your harddrive.
  23. I just wish he added some sort of file "wiping" or overwriting. Please?
  24. Please don't link straight to the exe file. A better link would be to the Sdelete product page (eg. SDelete). I use Eraser for overwriting free space. It does take some time.
