  1. I was wondering if the following were cleaned by ccleaner: 1.) Temp Files and etc. for Google Chrome Frame (Plugin for Internet Explorer) 2.) Tracks of QuickTime 7 Clear list of recently accessed items 3.) Tracks of Windows XP Clear CryptnetUrl cache 4.) Tracks of Windows XP Clear RSS Feeds cache 5.) Clear the ARP Cache I have attached 3 notepad docs for your review... I would like to see the Tabs changed for much better organization: 1.) Windows (Windows Explorer, System, Windows Programs, Windows Utilities) 2.) Applications (all 3rd party Applications and Utilities, broken down by type) 3.) Browsers (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome, etc) and well as Internet and Multimedia 4.) Security (all security related programs, broken down by type) 5.) Advanced (No changes here - execpt to capitalize the letter "D" in: "Old Prefetch data" "The Startup List" should have it's own button on the left hand side under the "Registry" button and above the "Tools" button. This feature is too important to be buried in the "Tools" section. "Task Manager" and/or "Services" button - either made to launch the original programs or you can design something that incorporates features from both apps into one master "Manager Program". Thank you, I am looking forward to hearing your responses, poolsharkzz Tracks of QuickTime 7 Clear list of recently accessed items.txt Tracks of Windows XP Clear CryptnetUrl cache.txt Tracks of Windows XP Clear RSS feeds cache.txt
  2. Hi nycquery, With a computer that old, I would suggest burning to CD anything that you would want to keep (pics, photos, docs, images, music, etc.) and then reformat the entire system to factory OEM specs - like how you got the day you bought it - by using the Restore or Recovery CD - there may be 3-4 of them. I know it's a pain in the %@!&$, but sometimes "starting over" may be the smartest and easiest way. It's a Sony, their Website should be a good starting point. Somewhere on your system, (Program Files?) you should be able to find the "Vaio Recovery Wizard", which might help too. So much has happened to XP since 2002, I'd spend the time and update: Windows Update to SP3+, Internet Explorer 7, Windows Media Player 11, Outlook Express 6, then upgrade your Ram to at least 512MB or 1.0 GB (quality and quantity, if you can or need), update all Drivers from Sony's Website, update the system's Java, Flash, DirectX, .Net, Adobe Reader, Quicktime, find and install the latest versions of the more popular security programs (Comodo Internet Security, AVG 8.0, Spybot S&D, SafeXP - www.majorgeeks.com) a few performance, security, and privacy tweaks, and of course, CCleaner v2.13.720! Take a weekend, rock it out by Sunday night. Just my 2 cents, poolsharkzz
  3. Okay, so those entries are for Vista only. The paths are different in XP. Shouldn't there be additional registry entries added for Vista? http://www.winhelponline.com/blog/serious-...n-registration/ If 6.0 is Vista, then the version # of Windows Error Reporting for XP is 5.1? I found QHEADLES and QSIGNOFF Folders in the ERRORREP Folder, which was in the PChealth Folder located in the Windows Folder off the C Drive and of course, the Registry entry: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\PCHealth\ErrorReporting I have it disabled as well on my system, so no reports, right? I don't understand what QHEADLES and QSIGNOFF means, or even if they fit into the big picture and there was nothing in those folders. What about this: http://www.mail-archive.com/imail_forum@li.../msg111160.html Or is this something else entirely different? I am so confused... poolsharkzz
  4. Could you folks look more into this? Is there something CCleaner cleaner can do about this? Sorry for being a pain, poolsharkzz ***** Here's one of the more amazing (and stupid) registry entries in XP: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\AppCompatibility Look at the AppCompatCache Value. It's more than 150K of garbage! And what's more, it is loaded into kernel memory and I have yet to find where it is used! XP will not boot if the AppCompatCache value is not there. So here's what you do. Delete the value, then re-create it with a one-byte binary entry of 0. XP will now boot fine and everything will be as before...except you have removed 50K from the registry and from kernel memory! If you make the same change in all the ControlSet00x branches, you can remove 450K+ from both the registry and system memory.
  5. Oh, okay, I see it now... I guess I have no windows errors to report!?!?! It doesn't show up on mine - what do I have set wrong? I am using a customized winsys.ini file - that's probably it - do you have a copy of embedded INIs entries for v2.13.720 ? What are the "Windows Error Reporting Files" anyway? Dr Watson? Yuck! YES, that is a really great idea - a user defined tab - that way we can do what we want with it! Vote for Disk4mat on November 4th! poolsharkzz
  6. Hello to all, Maybe I am looking in the wrong place, but I do not see "Windows Error Reporting Files" listed as an option to clean as described as a v2.13.720 additional improvement. What am I missing? Love the right-click cleaning and analysis - uber-cool! I still think you folks should have a 3 Tab named "Security" located at the top next to the "Windows" Tab and the "Applications" Tab to where all the security related programs can be listed. As more and more applications and programs can and will be added to CCleaner, keeping things neat, tidy, and organized will be a big step (and a big help) towards complete perfection! poolsharkzz
  7. Cool, there it is - Thanks! poolsharkzz Could you take a quick look at this: http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?showtopic=18338 Any thoughts?
  8. Exactly, as I already pointed out under #2 of my orginial post: 1.) In XP SP3, the registry entry is under HKLM - not - HKCU. 2.) The entry is missing a "\" inbetween: MostRecentApplication"\"Name 3.) This entry does not show up on the Analysis Complete section, even after correction. 4.) This entry should be included in the "Registry Integrity" section, not the Programs section. 5.) I would consider renaming the entry to: Direct Draw API I wasn't sure what exactly the backslash is called in a registry entry. A post? poolsharkzz
  9. Okay, cool, so I guess we need a XP version and a Vista version for Winapp2.ini. I also do not understand the benefit or need to remove/clean the key either, other than for safely deleting usage tracks and user history of recently accessed direct draw applications. Could someone explain as to why? Privacy violations? Security enhancement? poolsharkzz
  10. Oh, okay, makes sense... What about M$ Word as a stand-alone program? Does CCleaner have this covered? Spybot S&D finds this usage track: MS Office 10.0 (Word): [sBI $51FE086C] Recently used documents list (Registry value, nothing done) HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-3305080096-3069123988-1010101338-1006\Software\Microsoft\Office\10.0\Word\Data\Settings poolsharkzz
  11. Hello to all, I use Spybot Search and Destroy 1.6.0.30, and of course at the end of the scan I get a list of usage tracks and registry entries that Spybot said is safe to remove. I have always wondered why some "safe to remove" things "show up" on other programs but not on CCleaner. I've been investigating these today and I discovered a few errors on the part of: "Add A Program To Winapp2.ini, Add additional programs to CCleaner" http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?showtopic=1110 Reviewing what is listed there: [*MS Direct Draw] LangSecRef=3021 Detect=HKCU\Software\Microsoft\DirectDraw Default=True RegKey1=HKCU\Software\Microsoft\DirectDraw\MostRecentApplicationName This registry entry has a couple of errors. In XP SP3, the entry should be: [Direct Draw API] LangSecRef=3022 Detect=HKLM\Software\Microsoft\DirectDraw Default=True RegKey1=HKLM\Software\Microsoft\DirectDraw\MostRecentApplication\Name 1.) In XP SP3, the registry entry is under HKLM - not - HKCU. 2.) The entry is missing a "\" inbetween: MostRecentApplication"\"Name 3.) This entry does not show up on the Analysis Complete section, even after correction. 4.) This entry should be included in the "Registry Integrity" section, not the Programs section. 5.) I would consider renaming the entry to: Direct Draw API http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms879875.aspx http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DirectDraw I always wondered why Direct Draw usage tracks always showed up at the end of a Spybot scan! Just a heads up. Take care, poolsharkzz
  12. Hello to all, Once in a while I use Outlook Express 6 for e-mail and such. What are the entries for winapp2.ini??? All that is listed is the entries for Outlook Express 2003. Microsoft Word as a stand-alone program and not part of any M$ Office Suite - Can't seem to find the entries needed for winapp2.ini Thanks, keep up the good work! poolsharkzz
  13. Hello to all, Is this correct for new entry in winapp2.ini? [MS Works Suite 2006] LangSecRef=3021 Detect= HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Works\8.0 Default=True RegKey1=HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Works\8.0\Recent File List If incorrect, please post correct entries. Thanks! OddTodd
  14. Hello to all, CCleaner deletes pre-set User, Player, and Quicktime Preferences in the latest version of QuickTime Player. Please look into this, maybe we need to update the entries for winapp2.ini?? OddTodd
  15. Adobe Reader put out an updated version yesterday, need updated entries to add to Winapp2.ini. FYI - You folks should create a "pinned" topic when it comes to anything to do with embedded Winapp.ini, Winsys.ini, Winreg.ini - including links to get updated version copies. This would be very helpful. Right now, we have to search far and wide through-out the forums to find these things. Why do you not just include them in the full installer version? Thanks! OddTodd My setup: Windows XP Home SP3+ Internet Explorer 7 Firefox 3 Intel Pent Dual-Core 2160 @ 1.80 GHz 350 GB Hard Drive - 1.0 GB Ram All are latest versions and fully updated: Comodo Firewall Pro 3.0.25 Ad-Aware 2008 7.1.0.10 AVG Antivirus 7.5.524 Spyware Terminator 2.2.3.444 Spyware Blaster 4.1 Spybot S&D 1.5.2.20 MVPS Hosts File HostsMan 3.1.55 Advanced WindowsCare Personal 2.8 and, of course, CCleaner 2.09.600 !!!
  16. Hello to all, I was hoping for a response from "the powers that be" to my posting from Jan 14 2008, 10:18 PM: "A couple new suggestions..." 1.) Currently, at the top on the main page of CCleaner there are only 2 Tabs - one for "Windows" and the other one for "Applications"... What about the creation of one additional Tab? Plus, make the Items "less conjested" and "better organized" with a few adjustment changes? I was thinking creating a brand-new Tab - one specifically for "Internet" and then having a few Items moved "to fit better' under a total of 3 Tabs... The breakdown would look something like this: Tab 1 - Windows Items: Windows Explorer, System, Windows, and Advanced Tab 2 - Internet Items: Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Opera, and Internet Tab 3 - Applications Items: Applications, Utilities, and Multimedia Yes, I understand this would be a bit of work, but the layout would be much better! 2.) Before discovering CCleaner, I used to use a program called RegCleaner 4.3.0.780. What I loved about that program is on the first Tab it had a general listing of all installed programs, and at the right-hand side it listed each program as either "Old" or "New" and kept the "New" listings at the very top of the page for easy review... Could you guys put something together like this? It would be great for many reasons, especially for finding spyware, rouge installations and such. 3.) Additional suggestion: Please put another space or two space inbetween the Icon and the Text for the Uninstall Listings. I really like the idea of Icons, but it's a bit too cluttered and conjested, no? Please review, Thanks!!! 17. Hello to all, I hope this short note finds you well. I have few new suggestions: 1.) 18. What did you guys do to your latest version, version 2.01.507? I quote: "Files Winsys.ini and Winreg.ini are now embedded in CCleaner.exe." Why did you do that? Now we cannot add additional scan options nor can we remove unnecessary ones. Please explain this, why would you embed those files? One of things I enjoyed about CCleaner is that you can somewhat customize it. Please advise, OddTodd
  19. JDPower, Super-great idea, I hope it is considered!!! But, always remember that CCleaner allows for the backup of all cleaned files, which in my opinion everybody should always be doing anyway... * CCleaner should just auto-backup, without giving the option to the user, making CCleaner that much more safer - could this be hard-coded as a standard in an up-coming version? I am running Windows ME (fully updated & ultra-tweaked for MAX Performance), 633Mhz, 256 MB Ram, IE 6 SP1, Firefox 2.0.0.7. Once per week I run my Maintenance routine, for example on 9/26/07, CCleaner v200.500 did it's job very well and cleaned up a bunch of files, logs, and a few unused registry keys (ActiveX mostly) but a bunch of additional logs, reg keys, and such still remained: FYI: Before running CCleaner, I uninstalled MS Paint & Kodak Image, ran Hijack This 2.02, updated WinUpdatesList from 1.20 to 1.21, and deleted a few icon files (.ico format). HDCleaner's internal registry cleaner. As you can see, after running CCleaner, there still is a bunch of "crap" behind, I was curious as to why and was hoping something additional could be added. Could some of these be examples of what you mentioned - old UEME_Runpath entries? I know that a few more unused file extensions could be added to the mix. The addition of a 3rd tab - a Utilities Tab - as I suggested that listed all installed Utilities under a new 3rd tab could not hurt as well! It would add to the safety factor by uncluttering the Applications Tab. In closing, I have been using all mentioned programs for 3+ years without any troubles. I'm sorry about the length, I thought it be best to display what I am talking about. I see a brand-new version release of CCleaner at Major Geeks, I have to check it out!!! Thanks, OddTodd
  20. I am hoping that you folks in the future will make a new Tab specifically for "Utilities" only to go along with the "Windows" and "Applications" Tabs. Why? Because the "Applications" list and all those sub-menus can become very lengthy! I mean, scrolling down a very long list to begin with only to finally find the sub-menu "Utilities" is a bit of a pain and the whole thing can get very cluttered really easy. Also, I would like to see more cleaning options available, especially in the Registry Integrity section. After running CCleaner, I still have to run RegCleaner 4.3 and Free Windows Registry Repair 1.2 and then use the internal registry cleaner (and the drive cleaner) in HDCleaner 2.364. Possible Options: OLE Cleaner Orphan File Reference Finder Unused File Extensions File and Folder Duplicate Cleaner Right-click Context Menu List Editor Shell Extensions List Editor Just a few thoughts, keep up the great work!
