  1. I switched to a Vista style theme, which I much prefer to the standard ugly baby blue that Windows 7 comes with standard.

Just wondering TeeJay, but what UXtheme patcher did you use for your Windows 7?

  2. Gail, I am so desperately sorry to learn of your illness. I hope you may be able to come and see us just occasionally, and you have my very best wishes for the future.

You will be missed on here by all the guys if we don't hear from you, so here's hoping the future will be as good as it can be.

I don't know what else to say Gail. I'm just truly saddened by your news.

    Good luck.

Dennis summed up what I was going to say as well. I wish you the best of luck and I hope you may still be able to join us in the future.

  3. Firefox 4 beta 11,926,481 is set to be shipped sometime around July 27'th, 2027 :P

Oh blast, I'm going on my vacation then, so I'll miss that beta. When is beta 11,926,482 coming out?

  4. I snapped this before I saw Ishans video so I'll post it anyway:

It looks better on my screen. Has a nice texture to it.

That looks brilliant! I like the fact that its more smooth now, unlike Avast 5, where the interface was very glossy (I didn't like it too much). I'm very tempted to switch from MSE to Avast at the moment.

  5. Glad it went well for you. I didn't actually have any problems with the download, it froze during the shutdown process.

I know that SP1 includes all security updates released until now, but what about enhancements and feature additions? Nothing that I can see so far.

It's only bug fixes. There are no new features or anything like that. However, there are 2 new features in the SP1 for the server edition of Windows.

  6. I downloaded it through Windows Update literally minutes after it was released and had no trouble downloading it. However, after I hit restart, it went to the shutdown screen and said "configuring the service pack" and then said "shutting down." It then froze on shutting down. I let it sit for half hour, but eventually had to turn it off and back on manually. I thought it was messed up, but when it booted, it resumed where it left off and later said the service pack had been successfully installed. So apparently it installed fine, but not without a little hiccup. Typical Microsoft.

Surprisingly enough, I didn't have to stop the download and restart it. However by the time it finished, it took nearly an hour. Then everything else went smoothly enough, and SP1 was installed.

  7. When I forced my Windows Update to look for new updates SP1 was there with a few others. Had to download the others first. When I tried the SP1 it hung & failed after 18% finished. Several times. Their servers are maxed out. So I went to the MS download site WU named as an alternative. Got it there, took an hour to DL & install. Tried WU again, it went through the motions, after hanging at 19% it must've realized I already had it and said the DL succeeded. It didn't re-install it. I'm good to go. B)

Yeah, I had to go and make Windows Update actually check for updates before it showed up. Also had a bunch of other updates there that it never alerted me about.

Meh, I've been stuck at 31% download in Windows Update for about 10 minutes now.

Oh my goodness, now I'm at 32%. What an accomplishment! <_<

  8. I'm personally fine with the gui of 7-Zip itself, I just hate the file extension icons it has. They look horrible with Windows 7, absolutely repulsive.

  9. Hmm, did some more testing out of my own. This is what I think so far:

Internet Explorer 9: Huge, huge improvement over previous Internet Explorer versions. I'd say its become a modern browser now, and a viable choice for a web browser.

Firefox Beta 11: Nice new interface, the most customisable of all the web browsers as normal. I'd say Internet Explorer 9 is faster than Firefox Beta 11 (at least for me), though the customisability of Firefox is worth using it alone.

Latest Chromium/Chrome Canary Builds: Holy cow, they are fast. Fastest thing I've used so far. Scratch that. I should say Opera and Chrome are pretty much equals in speed for me at the moment.

    Opera: Great as usual.

    Maxthon: ...

Also, I apologise for going off-topic in this topic Nergal.

  10. There's nothing to brag about Firefox this code was to verify whether Internet Explorer 8/9 implements css style "before" and "after" since I have neither installed on my machine.

If Internet Explorer 9 displays "IE9 can't do this code" then it would appear Microsoft have improved on their css style support.

    Richard S.

Oh, there's text to display? I thought it was a blank. My apologies about that. Does it display this message on other web browsers besides IE?

  11. Could someone cut and paste this text to a .html file and open with IE8 or IE9 please :)

(already tested and failed with IE6 and IE7)

    Richard S.

I don't see your point. Opens fine with me. Unless you're trying to brag about Firefox.

  12. And likewise Microsoft would want their products to appear bigger and better than anyone else.

IE9 maybe faster on selective web sites but it's no secret that Internet Explorer sucks at web standard compliance and furthermore cannot be installed on Windows XP machines.

    Richard S.

Meh, IE9 is much faster and works better for me than FF Beta 11, that's all I can say.
