  1. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/891716# Found this paragraph in the page above, perhaps it may help Q4. With the March release, data in the Mrt.log file appears to have been lost. Why was this data removed, and is there a way for me to retrieve it? A4. Starting with the March release, the Mrt.log file is being written as a Unicode file. To make sure of compatibility, when the March version of the tool is run, if an ANSI version of the file is on the system, the tool will copy the contents of that log to Mrt.log.old in %WINDIR%\debug and create a new Unicode version of Mrt.log. Like the ANSI version, this Unicode version will be appended to with each successive execution of the tool.

  6. After looking around it seems that people who do have a problem with cyberhawk have the same problem as Madmartigan, the uninstall after it froze their system. Safe mode + restore seems to be what most have to do to get rid of it. I must admit I am a bit wary of programs that make uninstall difficult.

  9. Did you disable the service or set it to manual Sputnik?
  10. You may find that the paid for version needs this service running as it is real time, whereas the free one if set to manual will scan on demand perhaps?

  12. Those using the free version should be aware that it installs a service aawservice.exe that runs at boot by default. This can be set to manual for free version users.
  13. You do not need to install or say no to the yahoo toolbar, just download the basic build, or slim version as I do. http://www.CCleaner.com/download/builds.aspx
  14. Tator, your friend said he had had a problem with popups. This sounds as though he may have inadvertantly picked up some virus/malware while using your computer. A good idea would be to do a hijackthis log and post in in the part of the forum that deals with them. Instructions on how to do one can be found near the top of this page, which is also the page where you post the log after pressing the new topic button. http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?showforum=12
  15. Is there a possibility that your friend installed CCleaner as he wanted to hide his tracks of where he had been surfing when using your computer? I cannot see why he would have installed it otherwise and tried to hide the fact. There is also the possibilty that your computer has some infection perhaps? It should be easy to uninstall CCleaner via add and remove., but without knowing what your 'friend' did it may not be CCleaner that has caused your problems.
  16. welcome to the forum When you open CCleaner you will see at the bottom a button with analyse on it. Press this and it will show what it is going to delete. Then press the run cleaner button also at the bottom. All your cookies should now be gone except any you have elected to save in options. ( you do this by highlighting the cookie in the left side delete list, pressing the arrow in the middle to send it over to the cookies to keep list on the right) Here is a link to the beginners guide http://www.internetrotsyourbrain.com/ccleanerbeginnersguide/
