  1. Have a look here on the left hand side " How can I help" http://www.CCleaner.com/ Or you could pm MrG.
  2. When you open the task manager craig there is a help option on the top line which, if you click on, you can choose the help topics. There's quite a lot of task manager info in that, worth a read anyway.
  3. Found this page which mentions the active X (snap-ins) http://www.theeldergeek.com/microsoft_management_console.htm Are you xp or vista?
  4. What happens when you do control panel/admin tools/ services?
  5. You may have more success using the command prompt in safe mode for the restore, some have. Something to keep up your sleeve anyway. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/304449
  6. Did you install those apps on Returnil by the way? Cannot remember if you have vista Dennis, but if you do you can do a system restore in safe mode and you may not get that "settings not changed" then. (I've been reading again!) You can also use safe mode in xp as well for sys restore.
  7. Yes Dennis, didn't you know Glenn had a twin brother called Glenn
  8. Have you installed any new codec packs or anything like that? The error message didn't mention data execution prevention did it? As Firery pointed out though, not playing on the computer but playing on another device could be a hardware problem.
  9. Dennis what is the exact error message that windows explorer gives, and is there anything showing in the event viewer?
  10. Yes that is the only build I use, and why I posted the new link in my post above. I know you can choose not to install the toolbar, but like you I prefer the slim.
  11. Hi BrownSugar, it looks as though one or two things have changed. The page I used to link people to now shows this http://www.CCleaner.com/downloadbuilds.asp Instead I have to use this http://www.CCleaner.com/download/builds However I don't have your problem ( use a hosts file) but I use opera. The internet is strange
  12. Looks like it's off here burtman http://www.iconator.com/tags.php?type=avatar&tag=penguin
  13. If it's a bidet may explain a few of the red X's
  14. Post 15 in this thread Tom http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?showtopic=11551
  15. This only applies for vista Alice, which was what you asked about in your original post.
  16. This is the utimate workplace safety video, it may be in German but absolutely NO translation required Klaus goes from one disaster to another, keep watching if you can, and you don't mind a bit of blood spurting. http://www.metacafe.com/watch/68216/work_safety/
  17. Dennis, this was mentioned in one of the links firery posted http://shaagchess.en.softonic.com/

Were you able to do a system restore to just before this happened? I know that will not give an answer but it may help with the sluggishness until you find out more. If you go start, run, services.msc what does your indexing services show, enabled, disabled or auto? Also have you enough disc space and memory?

  21. I actually think Norton could be very useful. They could use it in computer night class training. You are given a computer loaded with all Norton software and AOL, the lot, and then told to get rid of it off the computer. If you manage it you pass, if not, they cart you off to hospital suffering from severe stress.
  22. Looking into this as well Firery as I am also affected by this. There is the thread here you may have seen http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?showtopic=10786 Perhaps when putting the driver disc in, it stores it in a temp file?

This is the only one I could find at the moment. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/273768 I also found references to avg and linux which probably don't apply perhaps
