  1. Anyone needing file association fixes can find them here under Winxp fixes on the left hand side http://www.dougknox.com/index.html
  2. If you read this page, I think that like me, you will really hope that you don't know anyone who installs this. You will feel very sorry for them if they do, especially when they try to uninstall it. http://blog.spywareguide.com/2007/09/the_t..._messenger.html
  3. Nice to see you back firery
  4. There are only the 2 choices, the old CCleaner one, and the piriform one. You can choose at the very bottom of the page, left hand side, "CCleaner style"
  5. We need a replacement - fast! This has been a great liitle site and I am sorry to see it go. Image shack takes forever compared to it.
  6. Just wondering if anyone has used this http://wwwm.meebo.com/

    Ad-Aware 2007

Another thread in the forum, seems like it MAY be solved http://www.lavasoftsupport.com/index.php?showtopic=12218
  10. Are you on Vista? If so have you tried right clicking the CCleaner desktop icon and choosing run as administrator? Older versions can be found here on right hand side. I would suggest if you do revert you uninstall the beta first. http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/
  11. Avg, avira and avast are the three "A's" of the freeware anti virus softwares. If avg works well with your system there isn't really much to be gained by changing.
  12. Does this help? http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documen...f.mspx?mfr=true
  13. Well Dennis and Jago, I must admit I got confused as well as it's usually the woman with the headache!
  14. What does Process Idle Tasks do? This command will force the OS to process all idle tasks. If your PC is never idle these tasks will never run. One of the tasks that Windows XP performs during idle times is the optimization of the files needed to start the OS. These files will be re-arranged on the disk and match the exact order they are loaded during startup. This list is in C:\Windows\Prefetch\Layout.ini. You may end up having to buy your girlfriend lots of bunches of flowers JD
  15. Interesting neat little video about dancing on the grave of DRM http://truthhappens.redhatmagazine.com/200...shup-challenge/ I like a lot of the comments underneath.
  16. Have a look here as it is a good troubleshooting guide for system restore problems. http://bertk.mvps.org/html/srfail.html CCleaner does not delete system restore files, however some other cleaners may be more aggressive.
  17. It does say to check first that the hal.dll is really missing and gives instructions on how to reinstall it. Yes, a repair install would insure the system was repaired ( hopefully) without the loss of files, but as you know, sometimes this is not always possible. Let's hope that the original poster can use the info above to at least find out what stage he is at. @the original poster, all that was needed to restore an "issues" backup was to right-click the backup file and choose merge. Using another registry software at the same time may have helped escalate your problem. Please let us know how you go on.
  18. see here http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000490.htm
  19. Dennis they are called comptometers Lots of info here http://www.vintagecalculators.com/html/comptometer.html also a "pocket size" one near the bottom
  20. Glad to read you have more good downloads lined up Chris. They have gone down well on this forum. If it makes you feel any better Chris, I actually live in the UK and get ComputerActive every fortnight.
  21. Does this help you psycheboat? http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?showtopic=11523
  22. Can you give more information please. What operating system are you using? Which version of Cleaner are you using? Can you give a screen shot of what you are trying to delete, I take it this is in an issues scan and not a cleaner scan?
  23. It may suit some people Whiteshark to disable it in services, but then there are no error event logs to look back on when things go wrong.
