  1. Just hit Shift+Delete and whatever you are removing skips the Recycle Bin and is permanently deleted.
  2. Yep, wish I had a DVD burner on this thing when I made the restore disks. It took me 2 hours to burn all dem CDs.
  3. I have used a XP Pro disk that came with a Dell to reformat a HP without any problems. The disk had Dell's name on it but it was basically a XP without any third party software, not what I would consider a restore disk. After the install, it ask if I would like to activate XP. When I clicked yes, it went on line and activated without asking for a computer product key, disk key, or anything else. If you have a single Gateway XP disk, it is most likely basic XP. All the "restore" disks I've seen came in sets of at least 3. When I made a set of restore disks for my HP, from the restore partition, it took 9 CDs.
  4. Here's a couple more sites. http://www.brainybetty.com/ http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/templates/default.aspx

CaPMan is right about the memory, get as much as you can affodr or as much as the computer is rated for. However, memory will not make up for a graphics card all the time. Some of the newer games do not support shared graphics. If you try to play Far Cry, Deus Ex IW, Thief 3, Hitman Contracts, and several others without a good quality graphics card, you're screwed.
  6. Western Digital has a Lifeguard Diagnostic tool that you can use to write "0"s to the harddrive, wiping all data. I don't know if you can use it to erase a partition or if it just does the entire drive but it might be worth looking at. They both Windows and DOS versions. http://support.wdc.com/download/index.asp
  7. My HP came with a recovery partition. It has a "Recovery CD Creator" program that allows you to make 1 set of recovery disks and a tool disk. The tool disk lets you delete the recovery files and remove the partition.
  8. OH GOD....I hope not. If I am, we're all in serious trouble.
  9. You'll get a kick outta these. http://www.killfrog.com/newpages/kat.html
  10. Hey gunner, How about this for a avatar?
  11. That's what God gave you a tongue for.
  12. Hey gentlewater, Hope we haven't scared you away.
  13. Right.....one for the magnifying glass.
  14. Just try playing Doom 3 one-handed......it's not that easy.
  15. Nope. I prefer single-player. I like playing through a level and then starting over to find different ways to beat it.
  16. Nope. I'm on dial-up so multi-player is out. I did get UT GotY edition and went through the single-player in one night. Got Doom 3, it was ok but I liked Far Cry better. Right now, I'm waiting for Wally World to drop the price on some of the new games to $20 so I can load up.

    Amen, gunner, Amen.
  18. Sorry....I'm strictly a FPS sorta guy. Far Cry, SoF, Chron. of Riddick, Deus Ex, etc.
  19. I always thought Tarun's avatar looked a little girlish.
  20. Welcome, gentlewater. May your stay be plesant. BTW, you don't have to crazy to post here, but it helps.
  21. BTW, don't know what scanner software you use, with my HP you scan it once then select the part of the pic you want and scan again. This way you just get the pic and not the entire page.
  22. I could tell you but then I'd have to kill you. Just kidding. Open the pic with "Paint"...yep, the crappy program that comes with Windows. Use the Selection tool to outline just the pic, Right-click on the selected section and hit "Copy to" Name it and save to a folder, Open the saved pic with Paint, Click "Image" > Stretch/Skew, in the stretch area increase the Hor and Vert to whatever % you want and save. Easier than it sounds, once you've done it a couple of times, it takes about 30 seconds.
