  1. Hey Slowday, There are no stupid questions........unless you're blonde. Running CC or any other clean-up software will cause no more wear than the normal use of the computer. I believe the expected service life of a harddrive is 5 years or 20,000 hours. A voltage surge, excessive heat, or a hard jolt to the tower or desk are more likely to kill the HDD before it wears out.
  2. Sorry. Should have mentioned that the Back-up should be the only thing plugged into the surge strip. That way there is nothing that will draw power away from it and cause it to kick in.
  3. The Back-Up is the way to go. It even has a USB connection that will let Windows monitor your battery. The Power Options in XP's control panel will let you set the computer to do a controlled shut-down when the AC dies and the Back-up kicks in. Since you already have the SurgeArrest, just leave it plugged into the wall and plug the Back-Up into it.
  4. Here's a manual for it. http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/bph07336.pdf
  5. What make and model is it?

    sniper update

BTW, if you look close at my avatar, that's a 3-shot group I fired at 100 yds. with a Savage 110 Tactical with a 20" stainless fluted bull-barrel and a 4X12 Simmons scope. I was shooting Rem. Match 168gr. boat-tail hollow points. The group measured .167" c to c. Dats my deer rifle.

    sniper update

Seen it. It has happened. In the late 60's, Marine sniper Carlos Hathcock was sent to take out a VC sniper that had shot several marines at a firebase. The guy would fire one shot and disappear into the forest. This went on for a week until Hathcock got there. Hathcock and his spotter went after the guy and found his hideout. They were sure it was a trap so instead of approaching the hideout, they started circling trying to spot the guy. The VC sniper, nicknamed the Cobra Eater, fired at them striking the spotter's canteen. They kept circling until Hathcock spotted a small reflection of light, he aimed, fired and they saw the VC start flopping around, typical reaction to a head shot. When they got to the guy, the spotter picked up the VC's Mosin Nagant Model 91/30 sniper rifle and saw that the .308 Match round had gone straight through the scope tube. A few minutes later, Hathcock started shaking. His spotter asked him what was wrong and Hathcock told him that something had just registered with him. The only way his bullet could go through the center of the VC's scope would be if the VC was aiming at him at the same time. Hathcock was just a hair faster on the trigger. True story.

    Power supply

Here is a site with a Power Supply Calculator you can use to check your needs. http://www.jscustompcs.com/power_supply/
  9. I think they would run about the same speed. I like Crucial cause they are one of the few companies that actually makes their own memory. Most companies just assemble their memory from parts they get from suppliers. With Crucial, you are buying factory direct and cutting out the retailer. They also "burn-in" all their memory, run it at high temps, to be sure they are shipping a more reliable and stable part. I'm noy sure, but I think that a mobo that is compatible with both PC 2700 and PC 3200, it will use either one but will clock the 3200 at 2700. I know my HP clocks PC 2700 at 2100. If i'm wrong, I'm sure Tarun or somebody will correct me.
  10. Here's the memory Crucial has for your MOBO. It may cost more but it's worth it. http://www.crucial.com/store/listparts.asp...75PBZ&submit=Go

    Time?

Now I have. Thanks. Isn't there a mod that's supposed to keep it straight?

    Time?

Did someone forgot to roll back the forum's clock or do they roll back on a different day in the UK? In the US we change it on Oct. 31th.

Happy Halloween Hey gunner, Here's an avatar for you.
  14. Here's a link to a 21 day shareware trial program that should work. http://www.download.com/3000-2194-10071171...page&tag=button
  15. Weird. What words did you try? I ran several and it worked fine. Did you scroll down the page? They give the definition first then a thesaurus list further down.
  16. Try this one. http://www.hyperdictionary.com/
  17. You had AOL AND NetZero at the same time!!!?? It's a miracle that your computer didn't have a meltdown.
  18. Try what I did with People and set up a connection with the connection wizard and screw the toolbar and browser window. If you change your ISP, for God's sake, stay away from NetZero. My brother tried them when they had a free ISP and he had to reformat his computer to get rid of all of the crap they stuck in it.
  19. PeoplePC Online just has pop-up blocker and virus blocker. I don't use the Online software anyway cause it has a sign-on page that sets in the taskbar like AOL. When they changed formats a couple of years ago, I used the XP Connection wizard to make a seperate connection. That gets me online without the software with it's sign-on page, toolbar and other crap. $10.95 for PeoplePC is without tech support, with tech support is $15.95, add $2.95 if you want the spam blocker.
  20. Check with your ISP, they might provide free hosting for subscribers. I have PeoplePC dial-up, they provide access to Trellix Site Builder and 10 Mb of free webspace.
  21. This should answer all your questions about SATA and ATA. http://www.lsilogic.com/technologies/indus...technology.html
  22. Back in April, Popular Mechanics magazine gave away a computer they had built. The damn thing had 5 harddrives that added up to 1.145 Tb. Talk about overkill.

The second line is the actual speed the processor is working at. To confirm this: Click Start>Programs>Accessories>System Tools>System Information and check the processor speed. I'm assuming it is an Intel processor, if so you need to check here to try and slove your problem. http://www.intel.com/support/processors/sb/CS-001481.htm
