  1. I have made sure I only buy 3 button mouses? (mice?, whatever) for years for that very reason.

and if you get a mouse with the middle button as a wheel, you can tilt it left and right to do all manner of lovely stuff on docs, web pages and many more.

Clicking my center mouse button "wheel" lets my scroll without scrolling  :D Just move my mouse in any direction.

     /\       \/          <          >

    UP, DOWN, LEFT, RIGHT

  2. Neither Craig it is "NBN fixed wireless" go to: http://www.nbnco.com.au/learn-about-the-nbn/network-technology/fixed-wireless-explained.html for a correct explanation.

There are two areas that the NBN fixed wireless are being tested at present. My speed is excellent and adequate (25/5) compared to 3G which I was using.

A fixed wireless connection is typically used in circumstances where the distance between premises can be many kilometres. In this circumstance data travels from a transmission tower located as much as 14kms from a premises to a rooftop antenna that has been fitted by an approved nbn™ Installer.

In my case I use Aussie Broadband at a cost of $60.00 per month with a DL limit of 500gig / month. So no complaints from me. Fixed wireless is supposed to be provided to that 10-15% of Australia that will not get the so-called normal "NBN".

Ok thanks for the info  :)

Will be having a chat to my ISP soon since my 2 year contract with my 4G device is almost up.

  3. Glad that you got it fixed mate! :)

By the way, I was away on a trip/holiday so I haven't put much attention into my 'problem'. Basically the guy from Microsoft suggests the same thing as you did before, but with TreeSize Free instead of WizTree... Right now I'm losing hope to find the cause and fix for that magically dissapeared free space. I will not defrag with Defraggler till I somehow find the cause of it. Anyway, I'll see what the Microsoft guy has to say.

    Hey Dreamcookies  :)

I'm using "Windows Vista" so the steps I did in the post's above worked for Vista.

For Windows 10 or any other Windows OS' I don't know  ?

AS for finding the missing GB's maybe give WizTree a go... the results may be different ?

  4. Hang in there Craig, I like you am located in the Sth West of Vic (Grampians) but have access to "fixed wireless" which is excellent so hopefully it will be in your area soon, although I'm not sure where you are.

Not sure what file format your movies are but I run Kodi_XBMC (free download) on my Nexus 7 Android 6.0 tablet which works well for movies which I use when 4 x 4 wandering, movies stored on a USB hard drive connected via "OTG" connecter cable.

Hope the above may assist, let me know.

    Hi Tasgandy  :)

Pomonal ! Yeah I know where that is ! And I know the Grampians like the back of my hand  I actually went to school at Halls Gap when I was a kid ! many many years ago.

These days I live in Hamilton.

Now when you say "fixed wireless" do you mean "FON" or "Telstra Air" or am I barking up the wrong tree?

My downloaded movies from Google Play are only playable on an Android device' or a Chrome Book' or through Chrome Cast to a TV

That's why I'm considering Android on my PC.

  5. On an android device you can drag down the notification bar and access settings... so I wonder ifcan't open it via "top line notification" nor can't cancel it though it's been offered. ) is what  rattazong is saying ?

And as for "Smart Manager" ... on my Samsung Tablet I have to manually use it's features > in this case the RAM TAB which then gives you a choice to ether end all app's or selectively end only selected app;s.

  6. Thanks for the info Dennis  :)

I might give it a go... and as for wifi... well my desktop machine like all my other devices connect to the net via a wifi 4G hot spot device  :D

Got no phone line for ADSL out here in the wild south west of Victoria

  7. Haven't seen that craig although I have been recently looking at desktop pc's running Android.

I'll be giving it a try on a USB stick for sure. Makes a change from all the Linux distros I've tried from USB.

I"m assuming that I can download my purchases "movies" again to > android on my PC.

So I might wait and see how it go's for you 1st Dennis  :D

  8. No, that link in your post above is for when using DF, if that box is left unticked (default setting), as DF runs and Windows starts jinking around with its internal algorithms, it can actually make the space worse/disappear.

I won't open that can of worms now - too long, too techie.

What you want is Control Panel, System, System Protection, Configure, on the Max Usage slider, slide to the left until you hit 1% (or whatever percentage you are comfortable with).

But on the average 1TB HD, and with most restore points only needing roughly 300'ish megs or less, 1% gives you around 10GB's of space - plenty.

You'd only want archival access to less than 10 restore points I would think, if you are into them.

Isn't ticking that setting in DF going-to avoid the issue of Windows "jinking around" ?

I"m navigating to System Protection the way you have set out in your post' but when I'm looking at System Protection tab there is no "Configure" button ? so no "Max Usage slider" to use ?

  9. Thanks mta  :D

Will try what you suggested 1st

I found this posted on tom's Hardware site >

Deleting some system restore points will not give disk space back as windows permanently assigns some hard drive space for system restore, you can reduce the disk space assigned for system restore, try the below steps.

    1. Click the start menu
    2. Click on All Programs, and then Accessories
    3. From the accessories menu, right click on Command Prompt and select "run as administrator"
    4. Type vssadmin list shadowstorage into the command prompt
    5. The results should tell you the amount of storage used and the maximum amount allotted
    1. Type vssadmin Resize ShadowStorage /For=[your hard disk]: /On=[your hard disk]: /MaxSize=[how much space you want to allocate]
    2. For example: "vssadmin Resize ShadowStorage /For=C: /On=C: /MaxSize=2GB"
    3. You should get a message saying successfully resized the shadow copy storage association, and you should have more free space on your hard drive.
The disk defragmentation might have taken up hard drive space if there are errors on the drive.

But I will go with your advice

    Thanks

    Craig

    NOTE!

The steps above work for Windows Vista!

  10. and does running WizTree shed any light on where the 77GB may have gone?

Hi mta and happy easter  :D

    Just ran wiztree and...

    I'm suspecting this ? >

    Capture.jpg

Been thinking about using my last restore point that was created by Revo uninstaller An hour or so before running DF

    Would this help ?

  11. Hey guy's  :(

I'm having the same problem ... 77 GB of free space has been used up some how? after running DF

Cant find any additional Restore Points... and as for Shadow Copies? well I don't know where to look for them?

I also had  "Stop VSS when defragmenting NTFS volume" un checked.

Have run Windows Disk Cleanup &  ChkDsk on restart etc.

Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit SP2

  12. Been thinking about stopping windows from checking for updates since it has sp2 and theres no more support for vista anymore

The only thing is windows security center is going to complain every time I start my PC!

Is it worth keeping windows update enabled ? just to stop the nagging ?

  13. Australian attractions

Well if anyone is planing a holiday here in my country :)  here are some suggestions "click the link below"

    http://www.australia.com/en/places.html

    Some stats >

Heap's of space here > Australia is 7,682,300 sq. km; England is 244,820 sq. km; so, Australia is approximately 31 times bigger than England.

Australia's Size Compared. Australia is the planet's sixth largest country after Russia, Canada, China, the USA, and Brazil. At 7 692 024 km2, it accounts for just five percent of the world's land area of 149 450 000 km2, and although it is the smallest continental land mass, it is the world's largest island !  :D

    BTW

Beware of drop-bears, gundiewolups, and buryakas!  :o

OK theres no such thing as a drop-bear! drop bear (sometimes dropbear) is a hoax in contemporary Australian folklore featuring a predatorycarnivorous version of the koala

However! BEWARE! of  Gundiewolups & Buryakas!

  14. Damn, it was the same link. How the hell did I do that?

Edited the correct link into that post.

    Cheers craig.  :)

EDIT:  Here's the best video of Dyson man, and see what happens when he leaves his Dyson in the cupboard.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XpeORQ09684

Don't watch that if you're of a nervous disposition!!   Seriously.

Murphy's law! If it can happen it will :)

Like the back hand action in that video but I thought he was a goner when his foot went in the hand basin

  15. Exactly what I thought and I now have an image of an Australian guy chasing after a spider with a thong!!

My minds eye can't make up it's mind as to whether he's wearing it or trying to catch the spider in it.

And after checking that video link above I realise I posted the wrong one. This is the video of the Huntsman in the kids bedroom and the "catch" doesn't quite go as planned ...

    @ craig.

    Huntsman spiders aren't venomous?

You live there with these things so I wouldn't contradict you, but that's not what I've understood from all the wildlife programs I've watched.

But I think some may have exaggerated how lethal it is ...

    Still wouldn't like a bite from a big'un.

Especially the variety that are partial to an Apple. :D

"Exactly what I thought and I now have an image of an Australian guy chasing after a spider with a thong!!"

I reckon in a pair of foot wear thongs & "G" type string thong chasing after a spider with a firm grip on his thingy > "Dyson Stick Vacuum"

"Huntsman spiders aren't venomous?" well just a bit.

But if it ain't gonna kill ya it ain't that bad  :D
