  1. 'Only delete files in Windows temp folders older than 48 hours' advanced option is activated.

It seems that this option doesn't work correctly. I discovered temp files of 2007 and of spring and summer 2008. These files aren't used anymore. so why doesn't CCleaner delete them?

If I deselect that option, CCleaner deletes them directly.

  2. I wonder why CCleaner shows some ARP Cache entries in registry cleaner which are shown as Uninstaller Reference Issues.

    This is an example:

    Uninstaller Reference Issue {7C3E3706-8FBD-4169-9726-0A47FBF9D32A} HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows

    \CurrentVersion\App Management\ARPCache\{7C3E3706-8FBD-4169-9726-0A47FBF9D32A}

What has arp cache to do with a uninstaller? I don't see any relation.

  3. Yes an automatic updater would be very nice!

It's not so complicated. Take a look how it's realized in SIW. http://www.gtopala.com/

It checks for an xml file on server. If version on server is newer than local version, it downloads new file.

After that it closes program, renames old file to a backup file, renames new file to main file.

    And than it's completed.

  4. After removing one item from CCleaner tools ->Startup, autostart of other items in that list doesn't work anymore on computer start!

CCleaner still shows items in that list, but these programs aren't started ...

I saw that they aren't there anymore in registry under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

    Instead, I saw items under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\MSConfig\startupreg

    ---------

If I create an item under RUN in registry and open CCleaner tools -> startup, nothing happens if I click "Delete entry". Item is still there in RUN folder of registry and items list.

But it deletes key under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\MSConfig\startupreg , if there is a key with same name in "startupreg" folder.

    ---------

Something is really wrong in that new version of CCleaner with startup tool ! Programmer swapped some keys in registry in program code of CCleaner by mistake.

Is there a known bug about this?

using CCleaner 2.08.588 on windows xp sp2 with all updates

  5. Same here!

I have 1,02 GB of temporary files, most of them from freeware archiver "jzip".

On first run of CCleaner, it finds those files. But it doesn't delete them!

On second run of CCleaner, it doesn't find those files anymore - but they are still there!

Files aren't locked by other processes and I am logged in as administratior.

Deleting files by hand (in windows explorer) works!

    my temp folder: C:\Dokumente und Einstellungen\admin\Lokale Einstellungen\temp

using Windows XP SP2 with all updates. CCleaner 2.07.575

  6. Software applications should be more or less fool-proof, or at least intuitive so that they can be used immediately without ploughing through a manual

Yes, that's it! Settings in CCleaner should be in that way, so that beginners don't get any bad surprises on their first usage.

Everyone who want to clean more, can activate further settings very easy...

  7. If a newbie in CCleaner wants to use CCleaner, perhaps he doesn't see that there are settings checked in Cleaner on second page "Applications".

Not all of the files on that page are useless! Cookies, Internet Cache and so on are really useful for some users.

So there should be a solution that users can't accidently delete files marked on second page on first run of cleaner.

Perhaps ALL settings on second page should be unchecked as default?

  8. There's still a small typo in german language.

    Einstellungen -> Erweitert -> "Detailliete Ansicht der Firefox/Mozilla Temp-Dateien"

should be written "Detaillierte Ansicht der Firefox/Mozilla Temp-Dateien"

    a "r" is missing!

  9. Since it can defrag individual files/folders why not register it in the Windows shell so people can right click to instantly use it.

Great suggestion! I like it. I hope I can see it in any newer release :)

  10. It would be a nice feature if I could delete items from the list of recoverable files in recuva. e.g. files which I really don't need anymore or files which shouldn't be recovered, e.g. for security.

So, the next time I start recuva, the scanning progress would be faster because there aren't so much files which could be recovered.

  11. On my windows xp sp2 computer with all windows updates, CCleaner 1.36.430 doesn't detect following uninstall folders for deleting them:

    $NtUninstallwmp11$

    $hf_mig$

    $NtUninstallWMFDist11$

But option "hotfix uninstallers" in CCleaner is ACTIVATED.

And those directories waste 180MB of discspace - okay I can delete them by hand, but why do I have CCleaner?

    Please fix, thanks :-)
