  1. How does CC handle hidden files (all types) in Disk Analyser? I do not see an option to show them so are they included in the Other category and if so is there a way to distinguish them?
  2. Is there a CCleaner version for Windows Lumia phones? I have tried to download CCleaner from the Windows phone Store without success. Is it genuine or counterfeit?. The few pages which do download are headed Piriform and look like CC but I understand there are fake versions around (surely not in the Store?). I am not referring to apps which have partly copied the CC name, such as 'New CC' etc.
  3. 1. When I run CCleaner and select Applications it always shows zero bytes to be cleaned, although when I then run 'clean' usually 100 MB plus are cleaned. Does this suggest something is wrong in the way the program is functioning? 2. When I run Disk Analysis it lists files, with their sizes, which are in fact set to 'available online only'. Is this not giving a false readout of the amount of HDD space used? Do the totals of MB used and available which are shown, both in the pie chart and in figures, take account of these 'none present' files (mainly large video and image files) and if not, is the information given incorrect? Other Disk Analysis tools I use do not show these files to be present at all. Is this also misleading or incomplete? I would welcome comments on these two points. clayto
  4. I have a 'create new Restore Point' option in another utility and I use it a lot, so would welcome it in CCleaner too. My Restore Points keep getting wiped out. I suspect CCleaner might be responsible (there are other possibilities) although I rarely use the Registry Cleaner, having been advised to avoid it, and I opt to back up the Registry when I do. I have long since unchecked Wipe unused disc space. Can someone tell me what the Restore Point entry is in CC, so I can see if it is checked / unchecked? clayto
  5. Is it Ok to seek help with Enhancer here? Assuming it is: I had CCleaner with CCEnhancer working OK for a long time on my WXP Laptop, but while CC Portable works on my fairly new Windows 8.1 Tablet, I cannot get Enhancer to work with it. No change in the list of files to be cleaned appears. This is despite having re-installed both a couple of times. In fact clicking on Enhancer has produced some bad round in circles behaviour, requiring a hard re-boot. I am very much in need of the release of SSD storage that CCleaner with Enhancer can bring, so can some give me advice on what to do? clayto
  6. For some time I have had what turns out to be a minor problem with CC ------ it wont launch at the start. I thought it was kaput but I tried the Registry clean up which worked, and then found that afterwards it would run OK from the beginning. So now I start with the Registary and go back to the general clean up. When I downloaded the most recent version to my surprise I found it behaved in the same way. It does not impair the functioning of the program at all, its just a bit odd. clayto
  7. PS. I have found the earlier discussion and my contribution to it ------ it confirms what I say about getting the option with regard to wiping unused space right . I think the discussion is 'CCleaner and Restore Points' or something similar. clayto
  8. My understanding (or misunderstanding) of this issue is fundamentally different to much of what has been posted so far. I understand that CCleaner does remove Restore Points if the box in the option to Wipe Unused Space (or whatever it is called) is not checked correctly. Anyone who does not want Restore Points interfered with, and I think that is most of us, must find that option and examine what it is set to. I am saying this from memory and will check that I have it right. This topic came up in another thread a little while ago ----- I was looking for it when I came across this discussion. clayto
  9. I am new to this Forum and to taking CCleaner seriously. I too was alarmed to see only one RESTORE POINT left. I immediatly created another. Restore Points have saved me from disaster several times --- they are one of the few advanced features which a timid non-expert like me can activate with some understanding and without fear. To rely on just one Restore Point is the height of folly ---- I must see if I can put into effect the measures to stop them being removed --- I (knowing almost nothing) am not convinced that unchecking Wipe free space as claimed above, as I have never checked Wipe free space and yet I had only one Restore Point left. What is the explanation of that? A short while ago I discovered by pure chance that my new Tablet had no Restore Points at all, after about three months of use. The supplier had not activated automatic Restore Points. I wonder how common this is and whether new owners of computers, especially novices, are being lulled into a false sense of security assuming Restore Points are turned on automatically? I know I will check frequently in future. clayto
  10. Thanks. I have not found this option in WDS but will look again. My understanding is that OE does download headers to Groups which are not subscribed to, I have a lengthy doc on this but its advice did not solve my problem. (note it will be a few days before I can continue with this) clayto
  11. A lot of unwanted offensive NewsGroup Files to which I did not subscribe have appeared on my computer after using OutlookExpress as a MailServer. I deleted / erased them but the offensive titles / headers are still found using Windows Desktop Search, but not by any other means which I have repeatedly tried (eg. Windows Search, Run). I cannot open or delete them using Windows Desktop Search or any other means. I have identified the source on my computer as a Folder in Documents and Settings called ...... Local Settings/Temp MSLN ......but I cannot actally find or delete this Folder when I open Documents and Settings or by any method of searching, Run etc . My searching has included 'hidden files and folders'. I have tried using Registry Cleaners, etc. including CC which is often recommended to me. I cannot find the Folder with CC or get rid of it nd its contents with any of the CC options. How can I pin down and remove this Folder please, with CC or by any other means? WXP2 Home
