  1. School is back in. Teaching has ruined my desktop's organization yet again.
  2. They revealed the new DLC for bioshock infinite 2: I'm super excited for this. Bioshock infinite was the best game I've played in quite a while.
  3. Eh, I use chrome. I figure I cant be getting spied on anymore than I already am. At first I didn't like all the stuff chrome does but its too convenient not to use it at this point.
  4. Anyone else pay attention to the new google announcement today? They announced a tv thing, new nexus 7, and android 4.3. If you did what did you think about it? I think the new nexus 7 look really nice. I don't think I'm going to upgrade mine unless I see one in person and it blows me away. Its got a nicer 1080p screen, faster processor, and a rear facing camera. I use my nexus 7 mostly for reading in pulse, reading ebooks, and watching youtube so I'm not sure if its worth it for me to upgrade. I will probably bring mine to bestbuy and compare the screen. (I could just pass mine down to my parents or something) The chrome tv thing looks awesome! I bought 2 already for both of my TVs. You basically need to go read about it to see what you can do with it. If you use android or iOS on a phone or tablet I bet you will be impressed by this thing. Seems super cool for only $35.
  5. Since the released the nexus version of the 4, maybe you can find a download for that rom somewhere? Not sure. I have a nexus 7 and CM10.2 for the GS3 looks and behaves almost exactly like the default android install on my tablet. The launcher is different but I use nova launcher prime anyway on my phone so I was ok with that. The biggest improvement has been better battery life and increased speed of just general usage. I was having to use 2 batteries in my phone to get through and average work day and then keep it plugged up when at home. It was ridiculous. I had even tried running the phone without any accounts synching and some of samsungs junk would still kill my battery. It always showed that "android system" was eating at least 60% of my battery. I'm not even on the phone that much during the day, it was dieing by just being on. I do actually have warranty coverage on the phone that I pay for monthly. I doubt that if I broke the phone they wouldn't replace it because I rooted it. Maybe if I bricked it during the process but if I drop it, I'm still pretty sure they will replace it with a broken screen ect.
  6. Not sure how many here have an android phone and specifically the galaxy s3, but I wanted to start a topic about my latest project I've been messing with. I have had a galaxy s3 for a few months now. I traded a friend for my iphone 5 since we both got new phones at the same time. I basically wanted to get a bigger screen than what the iphone 5 offered. Huge mistake as I hated the GS3 from the day I got it. I was very close to just trading the phone in and paying the price to get my iphone back but before I did I decided to try and put cyanogenmod 10.2 on it and see if that helped. I followed the two guides that you can find here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qCDCIZz5fJM&feature=c4-overview&list=UUCeXyDcdHfS6-EjwxrRl2eg and here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rb6ebdiIURI&feature=c4-overview&list=UUCeXyDcdHfS6-EjwxrRl2eg Those 2 videos cover how to root, back up, and put new software(mods) on your galaxy s3. I have played with cyanogenmod on an HP touchpad but I haven't ever hacked an android phone before but the process was fairly simple and I'm happy with the results. So far my phone is a LOT faster. Battery life has been improved dramatically as well. Whatever apps samsung had running all the time would kill my battery in about 5 hours.(these were listed under "Android System" when I would check the phones battery usage). I'm not sure I enjoy this phone more than I did the iphone but it is significantly better than it was when I got it. I do like that its running the most current version of android and that it didn't have any bloat taking up space on the phone. If you have a galaxy s3 and you don't mind spending about 2 hours or so setting this up, I definitely think it was worth the hassle.
  7. I've seen keepass before but I honestly forgot about it. Lastpass is free unless you use the mobile version which is pretty essential to me. $1 a month doesn't seem so bad.
  8. Well I've finally decided to join lastpass: https://lastpass.com/ I'm tired of having to make up passwords and at least the ones this thing makes are more secure and I wont have to remember them. I went ahead and paid the $12 for the mobile phone app as I log into a lot of stuff on my phone.
  9. Not what I meant. Usually the sites that get hacked don't revolve around open source/linux stuff. They hack people like sony, microcosft, or sometimes even governments. What do you gain by hacking a linux form? There is no credit cards, at best you get a few email addresses where the person used the same password they used on the forum. Doesn't seem worth the effort.
  10. Ugh, I had an account there. I don't go there much, they should probably at least send out an email to all their members. I'm actually surprised this happened, I guess the hackers don't care who they hack anymore. I figured a linux site would be safe from them.
  11. ccleaner does label everything it cleans. There are 2 tabs at the top of the application. One that says windows and another that says applications. Click on applications and you can deselect chrome and firefox. You can also go into the cookies settings and white list sites you don't want to have the cookies deleted from. You can find the help file for ccleaner here: http://www.piriform.com/docs/ccleaner

    Bitcoins

Bit coins is quite confusing. I read an article a while ago on Toms Hardware(I think) about a guy who spent thousands on electricity and hardware to mine bit coins. I don't see how he can possibly be making money. I guess he hopes their value goes up and up to eventually make a profit. Not sure but this is one fad I'm staying out of. Don't have the time or interest.
  13. No andavari got it right. In order for ccleaner to do this it would have to have some pretty deep hooks into your system and be constantly running. No one really wants that. However if you use sandboxie you can sandbox your browser or whatever software you want and when you close it nothing is saved. The added benefit is the security upgrade that sondboxie gives as well. The only program I really want to clear on exit personally is my browser and all of the main ones already have this option.
  14. I may try the new opera, but I doubt I would use it. I'm sort of "stuck" with chrome ever since they started syncing across tablets, phones, and computers. Its too convenient to instantly have my bookmarks, history, open tabs, ect sync no matter what device I use. I'm not even sure I like chrome the best feature wise but this feature alone has me hooked.
  15. I'm not an opera user, but according to toms hardware the new opera release(the first based on the new chrome engine) isn't making fans very happy: http://www.tomsguide.com/us/Opera-15-Blink-Sebastian-Baberowski-Chromium-Opera-Next,news-17131.html Apparently its missing a bunch of features.
  16. I haven't tried warframe but I have seen it before. I didn't realize it was free.
  17. Yeah, your right. My pc is currently much more powerful than either of the new consoles and I cant really tell the difference in the games from the ps3. I'm more excited to see what new types of games come out of these new consoles. I'm looking forward to see how The District, and Destiny influence new games. I'm not sure I want solely online games but it might be cool.
  18. I think it was a PR thing more than anything. They were getting hammered by gamers, the people they need to buy their system on launch day. I'm really torn about these new consoles. Graphically they aren't a huge leap like ps2 to ps3 was from what I've seen. They do look better but I haven't seen any games that make me think they couldn't have been done similarly on the current systems. This will probably change as the systems age but right now if you have a ps3/360 most of the games are coming out on both current and new systems.
  19. What I'm interested to see is if AMD graphics cards get a real boost in performance from these games now that the PS4/xbox are essentially using the same architecture as the latest AMD graphics cards. I actually bought a AMD card because it was going to be in the new consoles(plus all those free games helped my decision too).
  20. I think they were probably going to release it on pc anyway. I can't cost them much in terms of man hours to port it now considering the xbox and ps4 are both x86 now. I would love to see this bring the cost of games down since devs don't have to develop to individual platforms anymore but I doubt it.
  21. I don't play anything with mouse. I always use a 360 controller. I love big picture mode in steam.
  22. 1 good thing about being a teacher? Summer. I sat around and watched all the E3 coverage for the last 3 days and literally had nothing else to do. I currently have every console out except vita(had one but sold it). I saw lots of games I'm excited for but I'm not sure if I will be going ps4/xbox1 yet. I just upgraded my pc less than a month ago so I'm not really compelled to get anything for a while.(December is a while away though!) I'm pretty sure I will be able to play most of the next gen stuff on my pc so who knows. The pc is hooked to my tv and I play with an xbox controller so its not really that big a difference. Here is what I'm most excited for: Mario 3d on WII U New Donkey Kong on WII U Assassins Creed 4 The Division(not coming to pc. ) Splinter Cell Black List Zelda 3ds(maybe my most anticipated game?) Titan Fall(SO glad this is coming to pc) Watch Dogs Destiny There were a ton of interesting games but I think these are the ones I'm most excited for.
  23. All of those processors listed in that update are APUs meaning the graphics chip is integrated into the cpu. My guess is that this update is to better integrate the power of that graphics chip into general usage by windows. Basically I think its just a driver update but who really knows except MS.
  24. I've heard of alex jones but I've never listened to him before.(I think I saw a tv show with him before) The TV station got exactly what they wanted by putting him on tv. They wanted a screaming idiot and they got one. Honestly though I'm impressed by the host. I don't think I've ever heard someone in the middle of an interview tell someone to shut up or directly tell them their an idiot. Pretty funny.
  25. Well xbox 1 is $499 with crazy DRM. PS4 is $399 without DRM(sort of). Going to be interesting to see how this goes.
