  1. I also just downloaded this app to give it a try. I ran into two problems: 1) I had trouble launching the app from the desktop icon -- just didn't want to open, 2) the program couldn't find my CD/DVD writer -- never did find it. Did you have any similar problems?
  2. I was not at all familiar with "IceSword, but after reading this post, I tried to find out a little more about it. It sounded quite interesting, so I downloaded and installed it. However, I'm not really sure how it works or what to do with it. I assume it's an active monitoring and detection program, but I can't really figure out how to actually use it. Does it launch automatically at startup -- or do you run selected processes as desired, or ???? If anyone knows how to use IceSword, I would welcome your input.
  3. Anyone know of a good freeware video editor? I don't need anything real complex or sophisticated -- actually, a simple program that performs the basics well would be just perfect.
  4. This is probably a rather stupid question, but just wondering what the general consensus is as to how often a virus scan should be performed . . . intra-day, daily, weekly, etc.? I'm sure there are many variables that could affect the response to this question, but I'm still curious.
  5. Could you elaborate on this procedure of stopping them from loading? Thanks.
  6. Didn't Sygate get acquired by Symantec a while back?
  7. I just upgraded from Windows XP SP1 to SP2 using the Windows Automatic Update feature. The process took a little while, but everything seems to have gone OK -- I think????? Now, I'm wondering if should I be making some sort of "bootable" disk? If so, I'd welcome any suggestions on how to go about this. Thanks to everyone for all the input along the way.
  8. That's what I thought. Thanks for confirming.
  9. I'm using a third party Firewall (Outpost Firewall Pro). Should the Windows Firewall be used concurrently with it -- or is it an "either/or" -- one or the other choice? Didn't know if running them together would cause some conflicts -- one fighting the other -- or if it's just simply redundant and not necessary to use both.
  10. WOW! That sounds pretty emphatic. Is this upgrade pretty simple and straightforward -- or is there a possibility of it getting a little dicey?
  11. It appears that Windows XP SP2 is pretty much a "security" update. I'm currently using a Windows XP SP1 machine and so far have not updated to SP2. However, I do have a number of other security apps installed (firewall, anti-virus, anti-spyware, etc). So, just wondering if SP2 is still a necessary and/or important update?
  12. Are there any basic rules or guidelines for determining what to keep and what to "clean" -- and when? Even with the AVG stuff, is that anything I would ever need -- or is the need so rare and insignificant that it's not even worth thinking about it? Another question would be in the "Windows Log Files" in the "Windows" -> "System" section of CCleaner -- keep them or dump them?
  13. What is the value (if any) of keeping or removing log files -- not only in the AVG app, but any app? Is there ever a reason or a need to refer to them?
  14. I'm sure your entry is the entry I'm using . . . I didn't know you were the author. That's reassuring because you know exactly what it's cleaning. I know this is going to sound a bit retarded -- and I hope you didn't already make it clear and I just missed it -- but just what are these files in AVG that continue to accumulate?
  15. I just happen to use AVG Anti-Virus 7.5 and notice that there is a box for this program in the "Application" section of CC. When I check that box, I come up with about 7MBs of stuff to be "cleaned" (for AVG alone.) Typically, what is all of this -- are they log files are something else? Is it safe to get rid them, or do I need to exercise some caution?
  16. So how do you go about closing it? Can you use "End Process" in Task Manager?
  17. Just what do you mean by "disable it each time you use it?"
  18. Tom AZ

    AdAware 2007

What does changing this setting to manual actually do? Does it disable the automatic update feature -- and/or something else? Is there a really GOOD anti-spyware alternative option out there (preferably free and non-realtime) that doesn't always have something running in the background using up resources?
  19. I've been using Adobe Audition 1.5 on a Windows XP machine. I happened to notice in the Task Manager that Audition.exe seems to an active process most of the time and uses about 13MB of memory -- even when the app isn't running at all. To the best of my knowledge, nothing should be constantly running in the background. Any thoughts as to why this might happening?
  20. Thanks for the help. I guess I misunderstood how this GUI worked -- thought the JK app was integrated/embedded into the GUI itself. O well, live and learn.
  21. Sorry about that. For some reason, I thought this GUI was still back on 3.12 or 3.13.
  22. Has anyone produced a GUI yet for JKD 3.15?
  23. So, after all of these updates, do you think it's fairly safe to conclude that 3.15 is pretty much bug free and stable? Also, when do you think we can expect to see a new GUI from Ewieldra?
  24. Downloaded Cleanse Uninstaller from the Giveawayoftheday site -- supposedly within the "free" period. However, it continues to tell me that what I have is an unregistered version and that it will expire in xx days. What's the deal?
