  1. Just downloaded and installed this to give it a try -- so far so good. Seems like I can already detect some improvement -- unless, of course, it's just my imagination . By the way, how do you disable the notification icon?
  2. Does this defragger optimize (compact) as well -- or is this just for defragging?

    Defraggler

After a "complete" disc defrag, will it also optimize -- or is this app just for defragging?
  4. Is it reasonable or advisable to run two different "real-time protection" apps simultaneously (i.e., anti-virus and anti-spyware/malware)?
  5. Exactly where is this file located in XP?
  6. What are the "typical" symptoms of a bad video card -- or is there no such thing?
  7. Thanks, JD, probably a good thing to have.
  8. Thanks for your comments. That's what I thought, too. But I just read about it -- always interesting to get the reaction and input of others.
  9. Anyone have any experience with the cleaner RegistryFix?

    Anti-Spamware

Who makes a good free anti-spamware that's capable of marking, re-routing and/or deleting annoying spam?

    a-Squared Free

For those of you who use "a-Squared Free," how well does it perform for you -- especially compared with something like SUPERAnti-Spyware? I know that a-Squared scans for "traces," but I don't really know if that's an asset -- or a liability. Just out of curiosity, are there other programs that scan for "traces?"
  12. I agree. It appears that everybody's been right about everything they've said -- it simply comes down to a version issue. But one last time, I'd like to thank everyone for all the help they've offered on this subject. I sure didn't mean to start a "big battle. "
  13. Hey Dennis -- thanks for weighing in on this. Andavari and JDPower have both been so very kind in trying to help me with this that I started to feel like a real dumb-dumb. Just glad to know that it wasn't totally me -- at least this time
  14. Sorry for the version confusion -- I should have mentioned it earlier. It doesn't make a lot of sense that there would be that much difference between them, but who knows. Thanks again for trying so hard to help.
  15. Thanks, again, Andavari!! You've gone way beyond the call of duty on this one. However, I hate to say it, but I guess I'm out of luck. I used the self-extracting file and it did exactly what I had done manually (per your iinstructions). The two files are in place all right, but still nothing shows up in the "Ignore Lists." JDPower has jumped in on this also and tried to help. I guess it worked for him perfectly. Not sure what my problem is, but let's just forget about the whole thing. You've spent way too much time on this. By the way, I'm using version 6.0 of RM. I assume you and JDPower are as well?
  16. I do have an "Open log folder" in the General section and when I open it, the two text files are in the folder, but still nothing displays in the actual "Ignore" section. By the way, I have two tabs in the Ignore section (Values and Keys) -- you probably have the same. I have checked both tabs -- nothing.
  17. I have nothing in the Ignore List. Went back and looked at the Log folder, there are now four files in there: exKeys.txt exData.txt Register.log Scan.log Have I done something wrong?
  18. I did that too, but after it's done, still nothing is listed in the Ignore Section. Is it supposed to be?
  19. I just tried this, but I'm not sure I did it right. When you open Registry Mechanic, there's a Settings tab and an Ignore List tab. When you open the Ignore List, should these new items be displayed? -- mine aren't. Maybe I didn't do it right. Am I supposed to copy the actual exKeys.txt and exData.txt files into the log file (as two complete units) -- or just the data/text itself that resides within each of those two files?
  20. That's fine, anything is better than nothing.
  21. That's good news. There's nothing currently in the log folder, so I guess I can use the straightforward approach. Thanks, again, for all your help with this. I'm a new Registry Mechanic user -- and maybe exclusions aren't even necessary. However, it just seemed like there might be some very basic things you might not want to tamper with. Not really being all the "registry knowledgeable" myself, I thought if someone had a good starting point, it would be very helpful. Thanks again.
  22. I haven't tried it yet, but this seems to be a little easier to follow. So, if I understand correctly, these exclusions that you wrote should ultimately end up in the Registry Mechanic "log" file -- right? Here's where I show my ignorance -- oh well . . . why does all of this need to be done by way of Notepad rather than just copying the text directly into that folder?
  23. Thanks so much, Andavari. I really appreciate your doing this!! I was slightly confused about the installation, however -- especially items #1. Do I open the *.txt files in Notepad and then copy them -- then open Notepad again to paste them?
  24. However, as I recall, you did have some exclusion items for EasyCleaner. Would Registry Mechanic not fall into somewhat the same category?
  25. I just went back to their website and it also appears that cntl + alt + 5 (the center pop-up key) gives you a full screen (although I haven't tried it yet.)
