Hi all,
The only version affected is the 32-bit binary of CCleaner v5.33.6162. It was the application that was the issue, not the installer. If you’re using a 64-bit version of CCleaner, then you’re unaffected although we recommend updating to the latest version. There is also no effect to the Mac or Android versions.
At this time, we won’t be releasing a detection tool as the issue was in CCleaner itself, so uninstalling or updating the software removes the risk. You can download directly for free from here: www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download/standard
For those interested, the MD5 hash of the affected CCleaner.exe is: ef694b89ad7addb9a16bb6f26f1efaf7
Thanks - Tom
After installing CC V 5.35 I ran a Malwarebytes scan and it found 2 Floxit trojans in 2 registry keys named Agoma. I removed them quick then ran another scan to make sure it got rid of those.
So it seems even though the new version may remove the threat, version 5.33 leaves behind at least 2 active Trojans.
It found those on a quick scan--there may be more when I run a deep scan.
Anyone that had version 5.33 installed should really run a Malwarebytes scan like now.

whatever folder or registry entry is needed to trigger CC in showing you have IIS log files to clean isn't being found on your W8.1 system.
CC on my Win10 system doesn't show any ISS log files either.
Thanks for your info!
Good to know others have the same issue and whatever IIS folder/reg entry that triggers CC, is`nt being detected, is the reason.

Thanks for the reply guys, it helps...sign! seems like whenever Mozilla takes one step forward it then takes two steps back.
I agree.
I play it safe with Firefox now and just use the most recent Firefox "ESR" version.
The ESR version is always more stable and keeps most recent security updates.

on my w8.1 home 64 bit there isnt too
but on xp pro it is always there
I have IIS log files in ccleaner list on my Windows 7, but not in Windows 8.1---I have a dual boot set up for both OS`s.
I`d like to know the reason why it`s not listed in Windows 8.1
My other system cleaner has IIS log file cleaning---I`ll just have to use that one for those files apparently.
I prefer CCLEANER for all my other system cleaning.

Hi,
I checked my system with a different system cleaner and it found 3mb of IIS log files, so apparently IIS is installed on my Windows 8.1 Pro 32 bit system.
I don`t know why CCleaner does`nt have an option to clean those.
-
do you have an ISS server or have the Internet Information Services feature installed?
I don`t know is IIS server is installed or not.
How would I check for that?
-
Hi,
I have Windows 8.1 and under the "advanced" category there is no listing for IIS LOG file cleaning.
Why is that?
Thanks
-
Thanks for the info!
I'll check the builds site again next week.
-
Hi,
I`ve been to the builds site and no listing for the slim build, just the regular and portable builds are listed.

Sure is good to see resizing the UI has been added to 5.04.
Making the UI smaller on screen cuts down on all the white space too making it a little easier on the eyes.
I know many could`nt even use it at all before the resizing update.
Now if only they`d offer an optional UI like in 4.xxx versions.
One can only wish.
Thanks

If you can't find it by looking for Chrome files/folders on the hard disk (which Google annoyingly has install in a non-default hidden location), and if you can't find it in the registry I'd leave it as a ghost only CCleaner is seeing.
I`ve raised the white flag on this. It`s just not worth the mental fatigue.A "ghost only CCleaner is seeing" it shall be.
At least all of my other software programs no longer detect it and that`s good.
I`m amazed my operating system is still fully functional after deleting dozens of leftover reg keys associated with google chrome.
What those dozens of leftover reg keys were really doing is beyond me.All I know is there is much more going on under the hood of that browser than what meets the eye.
Thanks for all the suggestions to eveyone to chimed in!

Maybe this issue is really a Ccleaner bug.I base this thought since all my other software programs are "not" detecting anything google chrome anymore---just ccleaner is.
Reverting back to version 4.17.4808 did eliminate all 10 items under google chrome under startup, but it still lists google chrome in the apps list.
I know there are much more important things in life than this issue---but since I have it whittled down to just google chrome in the apps list---anyone have any thoughts on how to get rid of that?
If this issue ever gets resolved,at least there would be much info in this thread from very helpful members here on how to resolve it if anyone else ever has the same issue.
-
I'm using 4.17.4808, available at:
I uninstalled v.5.02.5101 and installed v.4.17.4808.
This time it lists nothing at all under google chrome in tools--startup--google chrome in version 4.17.4808. All 10 entries listed under google chrome in v.5.02.5101 are now gone.
But can you believe it still lists google chrome and all it`s cleaning options in the app list?
-
This is what I'm referring to, I figure a screenshot works better than trying to explain:
CCleanerToolsStartupGoogleChrome.png
That screenshot was from CCleaner 5.02.5101 which to me seems buggy in its detection of browser add-ons! It was showing me Adobe Flash Player in "C:\Windows\System32\Macromedia" which I haven't had installed for over a month, and I know for sure all traces are fully removed from my system. Now in the older version of CCleaner that I prefer to use it doesn't have that issue whatsoever!
What older version of ccleaner are you using?
-
Try enabling one and then see where it is in the registry via right-click, or right-click open containing folder.
I enabled 1 and "disable" and "save to text file" only for options.
-
That reminded me if there's a Chrome add-on left behind causing this, open CCleaner and go into:
Tools > Startup > Google Chrome
Then right-click the add-on and select:
Open containing folder
As mentioned, there are 10 items listed under google chrome in tools--startup--google chrome.
After right click on each it only offers to "enable" and "save to text file".
-
On the google chrome items in startup, did you right click on them and select to open it in regedit?
On right click the only options is to "enable" and "save to text file".
-
What I don`t understand is why ccleaner does`nt have a "delete" option for the 10 items listed under google chrome in tools--startup--google chrome.
Also I have 2 other software programs that "had" google chrome browser listed in it and don`t anymore since I did all the reg cleaning,so apparently I`ve cleaned it well enough for those 2 programs to "not" detect google chrome anymore.
Ccleaner is the only program I have still detecting it.
-
I went into ccleaner--tools--startup and under google chrome there are still 10 listings that ccleaner does "not" give option to delete.Only options are enable and disable so I disabled them all.
As far as I know my windows 7 system is clear of the leftover reg entries---ran several more aggressive reg cleaner scans and even Revo Pro forced uninstall comes up clean.
Getting tired of uninstalling and reinstalling ccleaner several times since I have to reset my preferences everytime.
I also appreciate everyone elses suggestions on this issue so far.
-
Yeah, sorry, my Revo is the Pro version.
What about if you install Chrome then use Revo to remove it?
I wonder if Revo Pro offers a trial period?
I installed a free trial period of Revo Pro today and used the "forced uninstall" function to find leftover Google Chrome stuff.
It found "nothing"---no leftovers at all yet Ccleaner still has google chrome listed in the apps list.
-
Try NirSoft RegScanner (freeware), it will display a list of all things Google or Chrome in the registry allowing you to double-click them and then manually delete them via RegEdit. Try to limit yourself to only removing Chrome references because there are some Google registry data that has nothing to do with Chrome that's build into Windows.
Note that some antivirus' may give a false positive against Nirsoft RegScanner.
Yes--I noticed while using the more aggressive reg cleaner that there are many "chrome" entries not related to google---they were windows related and I left those alone.
-
Again, Hazelnut's question above, is there "Only one user on the machine?
Just 1 user on it--me.
-
Yeah, sorry, my Revo is the Pro version.
What about if you install Chrome then use Revo to remove it?
I wonder if Revo Pro offers a trial period?
That`s ok.
Honestly, I don`t want to be reinstalling Chrome again and have it reinstall everything I `ve been trying to rid of in the first place.
When I had Chrome installed I actually used Revo first to try to uninstall it,but Revo froze up half way thru uninstall so I had to use Windows uninstaller.
I`ve never seen a browser that so deeply imbeds itself in an operating system the way Google Chrome does.
The more aggressive reg cleaner I used found 68 leftover google remnants and I deleted them all.
-
Spent 90 minutes last night trying to rid my system of leftover Google Chrome junk--and no luck.
I even installed a much more aggressive registry cleaner and it found a bunch of reg keys associated with google chrome.Deleted all of them and google chrome still shows on ccleaner app list.
I even uninstalled and reinstalled ccleaner 3 times, rebooted 3 times, each time after deleting google chrome reg keys and it`s hard to believe after all that ccleaner is still detecting chrome leftovers.
I`ve been computing for over 15 years now and this getting rid of chrome stuff is by far the most difficult I`ve ever dealt with.
At this point I`ve just gone into "ccleaner--tools--startup"-- and disabled everything listed under google chrome.
I made sure no google stuff is running in MSCONFIG also.
I really don`t what more I could do.
