Let's see how W10s' SP1 holds up, then I'll take a second look. W7 works so good for me so far I'd hate to give it the bums' rush. This whole torrent thing gives me a nauseous feeling. You know how many pinhead wanna-be hackers will try to screw up their tiny bits of downloaded W10 files? What you download won't be 'direct' from MS.

Sp1 (or .1) will be after the free period. I'm not sure if the seeds are from ms servers or everyone's but each bit is verified by the application, it's not torrent just the same theory/mechanism

Like when a policeman pushes or 'rushes' a bum (a derelict) out of a fancy park.

For example - "W10 is here and it's new and pretty. W7 is old. Get out of here W7, I want W10."  That's giving W7 the 'bums rush'.

bums' rush. whats that? :D sounds a bit funny

(From dictionary.com)hurrying someone out of a place. (As someone might quickly escort a vagrant from a fancy restaurant).

(Google translated into german) jemand stürzte von einem Ort. (Als jemand, der schnell einen Landstreicher aus einem feinen Restaurant auswerfen könnte)

(My take)

Bum = Landstreicher more or less

Edited for a better translation in my opinion

thank you very much corona and nergal :) both good explanations

pity that Microsoft shall proceed with its own software (after the update from w8 to w8.1 various programs no longer went, even in-house by Microsoft - real shame. so im curious to see what software will no longer run in Windows 10 before i upgrade to it.)

Very little that works with 8.1 won't work in 10. mostly anything that relies on depreciated windows features, of which there are only a few, will be the software which won't work (not considering software which may need an update). The "reservation" software gives you an overview of anything found incompatible.

I don't see this going bad for MS at all.

Quiet the opposite in fact. (probably be eating those words come July 30th)

. . .

@login123

The thing you may be 'overlooking', and what I've not heard a definitive answer on, is if you do have to reload back to your previous windows edition, does your old Key still work, that is, will it be activated?

I believe it will as surely the activation servers will recognise it as a valid Win10 or Win7/8 Key.

No won't go bad for microsoft.

Might result in many many users discovering post hoc that they have win 10 and cannot go back without buying an install disk.

As to the 'overlooking', it might be possible for microsoft to change the bios or some sector of the disk so that earlier versions won't work.

But, under ordinary circumstances, I can't imagine that a full backup would even require a key to be entered.

Any validity checks should come back OK just as they did on the original install, right?

I don't see any way to verify that except just doing it.

I do not wish to spread FUD, so must say I have NO reason to believe that restoring an external image will fail.  Just thinking ahead.

The CCleaner SLIM version is always released a bit after any new version; when it is it will be HERE :-)

The only case where it would have issue, and the crux of (imnsho) the thread hazelnut pointed to, is with pcs that have UEFI chips.

I'm with you @login123, looks like we won't get a definite answer from MS so it will be a suck-it-and-see job if anyone has to go back to an earlier version.

Another thing worth reading to help us build up info on what will or will not happen with the upgrade.

http://www.howtogeek.com/219166/you-won’t-be-able-to-disable-or-delay-windows-updates-on-windows-10-home/?PageSpeed=noscript

But, with updates automatically installed whether you want them or not, a buggy update could cause problems on many home computers and there’d be no avoiding it. Microsoft will have to improve the quality of Windows updates. Telling business users that changes will be tested on home PCs before they’re made available is a little worrying

Surely Updates under WX may be automatic, without the manual option any more, but they have to be able to be turned off.

If not from the Control Panel then hopefully just disabling the Service, or at the firewall level, or IP address in the HOSTS file - someone will find a way.

Right now it looks like that is not true for win 10 home users.  I just finished reading every word of every link in this topic.   :(

Nothing one can sink ones teeth into, but all say home users will have to accept updates, and will be bug testing them for the benefit of enterprise users.

Imho, probably will be a workaround eventually, but no inkling of it yet.

On the positive side, It looks like win 10 will be better than win 8 for my laptop.

Must rest now.  Brain is experiencing propaganda fatigue.  :)

Also Windows 10 now allows you to sideload universal apps just like Android does

Reinstalling Windows 10 after upgrade

We understand that you may have some questions regarding what to do if you have to reinstall Windows 10 at some point after you take advantage of the free upgrade. Here are some basic questions and answers regarding the free upgrade offer

well, that seems to clear up one line of questions, and opens a whole bunch more when you read on down the list.

what I would like to know is on what authority these MS forum members are speaking from.

the first guy, Uttam Yadav (the forum moderator), what's his affiliation with MS?

and the responders, especially the ones with Microsoft and MVP in their titles, who you'd think should know, are asking the same questions as the rest of us?

geez - if they don't know or haven't got some sort of fast-track to someone who does, what chance have we got?

I find this quite unsettling,  Wi-Fi Sense...

Wi-Fi Sense is a feature built into Windows 10. You may see a pop-up saying “Wi-Fi Sense needs permission to use your Facebook account.” It also works with Outlook.com and Skype contacts.

This feature allows you to share Wi-Fi login information — network names and passphrases — with your friends. It’s designed to automatically connect Windows 10 devices to shared networks.

Wi-Fi Sense settings can be controlled from the Settings app. Select Network & Internet, select Wi-Fi, scroll down, and select Manage Wi-Fi Settings.

From here, you can disable Wi-Fi sense entirely if you like, and choose whether Wi-Fi Sense automatically connects you to networks shared by your contacts — by default, it does.

Ouch, good find, that's one setting that will get turned off straight away!

Why would MS not make the default setting as OFF.

Allow users the choice of opting-in if they like the feature rather than getting caught out and having to angrily opt-out.

I find this news disturbing:

1.) Candy Crush Saga will be installed on Windows 10 replacing the traditional Windows games:

http://www.theverge.com/2015/5/14/8606925/candy-crush-saga-windows-10

2.) Candy Crush Saga is considered by many sources to be a form of spyware:

http://www.sfgate.com/technology/article/Leaked-docs-NSA-uses-Candy-Crush-Angry-5186801.php

http://www.dailytech.com/NSA+Uses+Angry+Birds+Candy+Crush+to+Spy+on+Americans/article34211.htm

http://smartphones.wonderhowto.com/inspiration/government-is-stealing-your-data-from-angry-birds-candy-crush-facebook-other-mobile-apps-0150742/

It will be interesting to see just how easy or difficult Microsoft makes it to uninstall Candy Crush Saga after installing Windows 10. I remember in particular the difficulties I went through when I uninstalled Wild Tangent games from my HP laptop after purchasing it, and I certainly hope Candy Crush Saga doesn't prove to be as difficult.

I plan on uninstalling it the same way I uninstalled the built-in windows apps on 8/.1: executing a 'take ownership' on the folder with the program files and deleting them outright.
