darroch
Hi, I have just updated to the latest version and ran the cleaner but it only got 20% and an error message popped up saying: The thread used up its stack CCleaner v3.11.1541 MS Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit SP2 Intel Core2 Duo CPU E6750 @ 2.66GHz 2.0GB RAM NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT Don't have a clue what this means! Anyone know the solution to this? Thanks!
Moderators Nergal Posted September 29, 2011 Moderators Share Posted September 29, 2011 (I'm assuming you speak of the cleaner section not the registry integrity section) Does this hang only happen on clean? or on analyze as well? what entry does it hang on. if you don't know you'll have to go through the following procedure uncheck everything on both the windows and application tabs check off the first thing that you would normally clean run clean if no hang, uncheck the entry and check off the next entry do this for every checkbox on both tabs come back and report to use which entry is causing the crash if every entry causes a crash, from the windows command prompt (or Run) type the following "c:\program files\ccleaner\ccleaner.exe" /debug the quote marks are important. replacce c:\program files\ccleaner with the location of your ccleaner.exe then clean as you normally would when ccleaner crashes go into the ccleaner folder (i.e. c:\program files\ccleaner\) there you'll see a .log file attach that file to this thread ADVICE FOR USING CCleaner'S REGISTRY INTEGRITY SECTION DON'T JUST CLEAN EVERYTHING THAT'S CHECKED OFF. Do your Registry Cleaning in small bits (at the very least Check-mark by Check-mark) ALWAYS BACKUP THE ENTRY, YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT YOU'LL BREAK IF YOU DON'T. Yes I am referring to the cleaner section. Following your instructions it appears that when the empty recycle bin is ticked, this message appears. I suppose its not that important for me as I always empty this anyway. However if you would like to help here is what the log file says: 23:38:52:692787[iNFO ] CCleaner v3.11.1541 23:38:52:692787[iNFO ] MS Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit SP2 23:38:52:692787[iNFO ] Intel Core2 Duo CPU E6750 @ 2.66GHz 23:38:52:692787[iNFO ] 2.0GB RAM 23:38:52:692787[iNFO ] NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT 23:38:52:692787[iNFO ] Application Started 23:38:59:291587[DEBUG] OnBegin | Preview = 0 23:38:59:291587[DEBUG] OnRuleStarted | 3003 | 3141 | Empty Recycle Bin 23:38:59:353987[FATAL] Critical Error 23:38:59:353987[FATAL] A critical error has occured in CCleaner, the application must now close. 23:38:59:353987[FATAL] The thread used up its stack
Guest MrT
This is a problem caused by a corrupted Recycle Bin. We are working on a solution and will soon release an update. In the meantime, please uncheck "System->Empty Recycle Bin" rule when cleaning your computer. Sorry for any inconvenience. Thank you for your help and support. Mwhitey
Almost identical problem - Unable to run Version 3.11 - all previous versions have run without any problems. Keep getting "Critical Error" message with error description "The thread used up its stack, CCleaner v3.11.1541 (64-bit), MS Windows 7 64-bit SP1, Intel Core i7 CPU 860 @ 2.80GHz, 8.0GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce GTS 240." Same solution as above - unchecked "Empty Recycle Bin" and it ran OK. Please let me know when the update mentioned in the previous post is available. Thank you.
