Moderators Nergal Posted October 3, 2012 Moderators Share Posted October 3, 2012 as portable can be found anywhere and (usually) have no registry keys, it is not possible to create general public cleaning rules for portable programs. As my portable drive is always the same letter on my computer I can run my own portable app cleaning, however my rules wouldn't work for you. ADVICE FOR USING CCleaner'S REGISTRY INTEGRITY SECTION DON'T JUST CLEAN EVERYTHING THAT'S CHECKED OFF. Do your Registry Cleaning in small bits (at the very least Check-mark by Check-mark) ALWAYS BACKUP THE ENTRY, YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT YOU'LL BREAK IF YOU DON'T. Winapp2.ini
Though we can make rules for the default installation, and you can create a symlink to the portable one. That's what I do for several things on my system, namely Steam and Origin winapp2.ini additions thread winapp2.ini github
Moderators Andavari Posted October 3, 2012 Moderators Share Posted October 3, 2012 PortableApps.com software installed in the default location "C:\PortableApps" is what I'd call feasible to make cleaners for. As long as it's on drive C: it can be detected using DetectFile.
Winapp2.ini
Would it be safe to assume it defaults to %SystemDrive%? I always run my system on C, so I wouldn't be able to check. winapp2.ini additions thread winapp2.ini github
Moderators Andavari Posted October 3, 2012 Moderators Share Posted October 3, 2012 PortableApps installer defaulting to it? I really don't know if they're using some variable to find the OS drive, or if it's just some bog standard assume it's drive C.
Winapp2.ini
I see no harm in making filekeys/regkeys for C:\, though it's different from the rest of the file format. winapp2.ini additions thread winapp2.ini github
Moderators Nergal Posted October 3, 2012 Moderators Share Posted October 3, 2012 note there's a great difference between "portable programs" and "portableapps" (besides that one of them is a brand name ) Most applications from PortableApps (John Haller) cleanup after themselves after Exit (and keep the data in the application's folder) as far as PortableApps programs Portable Firefox and Portable Chrome, there is a solution in custom location. As I said, any other portable programs would depend on the user. Yes most portable programs have an installed version, and thus could be converted within a personal winapp2, for PortableApps most already have entries and (until custom location is universal) can be made by a users via ccleaner's export command. Imho inclusion of PA should not happen unless there's no corresponding internal clean ADVICE FOR USING CCleaner'S REGISTRY INTEGRITY SECTION DON'T JUST CLEAN EVERYTHING THAT'S CHECKED OFF. Moderators Andavari Posted October 4, 2012 Moderators Share Posted October 4, 2012 (edited) Should that possibly be renamed, since it's also for FileKey? From: DetectFile paths To: DetectFile and FileKey paths -------------------- Edit: These are missing from it, that is if CCleaner supports them: %SystemDirectory% %SystemDirectory32% %SystemDirectory64% %RootDir% Does this still work? If so it's identical to %HomeDrive% and %SystemDrive% -------------------- One question: Is it: %Videos% (plural), or %Video% ?
