Winapp2.ini additions

Revised Entry

Removed ExcludeKey's. Because of the ExcludeKey's, lots of LOG and .old files were not being removed. I have tested it on the latest version of Chrome with several extensions installed, no issue whatsoever.

Making this change broke my Sticky Password extension in Chrome V50.0.2661.102 m on Windows 10 x64 insider build 14342.  The extension became inactive.  I had to uninstall it from Chrome and then re-install the extension via the Sticky Password program.

No surprise, exclude keys are usually added for good reason. Generally a bad idea to remove them from the universal winapp2 file just cos it causes no problems on one persons system.

Fully agree and understand.  I just wanted to re-enforce that they should not be removed by presenting a real-time example from my systems.   ;)

Maybe you can find a way to have those log/old files to be removed while leaving the ExcludeKeys intact.

Hello,

I had some problems with one of the entries - [internet Explorer More*], damaged 3 windows 8.1 apps :

Bitmap live tile clock - no longer opens and live tile gone.

The weather channel app - opens ok, but live tile gone.

Windows calendar app - opens ok, but live tile gone.

I reinstalled the Bitmap clock and it was working with live tile, then ran ccleaner again to confirm.  It stopped working.

Then I reinstalled the weather channel app and got it working with live tile and analyzed again, and mostly log files entries came up and [internet Explorer More*]. Unchecked [internet Explorer More*] and ran ccleaner and weather channel app is still working with live tile - even after reboot.

I analyzed just the entry in ccleaner :

Internet - Internet Explorer More*    1,544 KB    5 files
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
C:\Users\Neil\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\WebCache\V01.chk    8 KB
C:\Users\Neil\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\WebCache\V01001FF.log    512 KB
C:\Users\Neil\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\WebCache\V01res00001.jrs    512 KB
C:\Users\Neil\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\WebCache\V01res00002.jrs    512 KB
C:\Users\Neil\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\UserData\container.dat    0 KB

This maybe should be removed from the entry ? :

FileKey12=%LocalAppData%\Microsoft\Windows\WebCache|*.*|RECURSE

FileKey13=%LocalAppData%\Microsoft\Windows\WebCache.old|*.*|REMOVESELF

I could not find the container.dat file, but maybe add an excludekey for that.

If at the very least add a warning that this will damage windows apps and live tiles.

I tried to look through the reg key entries, but could not find anything there.

Has anybody else had problems with this?  I hope this info will help someone else.

Thanks, Neil

Hi... trim.bat has stopped working for me. I realize the version of winapp2.ini is a little behind the times but, I've installed some softwares and uninstalled others since the latest iteration and was just trying to re-customized the winapp2 file to more accurately reflect my current setup. Upon re-downloading the latest winapp2 file from the website, I am encountering an impasse when trying to accomplish my mission. http://i64.tinypic.com/4raqzr.jpg

Make sure you are running trim as administrator. Also, make sure you are clicking "Analyze" and not "Run Cleaner" during this operation.

Yup. Did that. As I am only one on this machine UAC has been turned off for some time. Right click, runas administrator still gives no joy. I do remember not too long ago removing the Ccleaner task from the Task Manager. I created a new task but, maybe the parameters are incorrect? Can someone advise proper setup for this?

I hope that Winapp2.ini is okay and that SMalik comes back someday; I've been looking over all posts in this thread since the last release of winapp2.ini and I especially appreciate the research done by SMalik on the Windows 10 Universal Apps.

By the way, it looks like, to support both new Opera and the Vivaldi web browser in these winapp2.ini entries, for every FileKey where you see

%LocalAppData%\Google\Chrome*\

add a line where the "Google\Chrome*" bit is replaced by "Opera Software\Opera *" (I added a space to minimize false positives), and another line where that bit is replaced by "Vivaldi" (the only exceptions being for "Application" directories, which are in Program Files and where I have never seen debug.log files); additionally, it looks like more of the Chrome-related sections could use a registry detection for HKCU\Software\Chromium where they already have lines for Torch and SuperBird, and then after that, lines for Opera Software and Vivaldi.

(For some of these entries, it looks like new Opera uses %AppData% instead of %LocalAppData% and does not have a "User Data" subdirectory, nor separate user profiles.)

I might later post the respective changed sections, after adding the entries for new Opera and Vivaldi; I haven't yet found relevant entries for Brave, though.

I will send my updated winapp2.ini file to Winapp2.ini when I am done, but I will not post it publicly out of respect for the project maintainer.

Hi folks!

Sorry I've been away without contact. And doubly sorry that I really can't discuss why.

I haven't had time to read what I've missed here just yet but I should like to restructure how this operates, such that it can at least continue to function well should I lose access to my machines again

As such, I'd like to migrate to Github! I'll get around to this in the coming weeks when more things have settled. I hope to have this going in time for the next CCleaner update, but if not certainly it'll follow shortly after. I'm not too experienced with Git, so I may need a little guidance from some of you experts in the crowd :)

Again, sorry for the communications embargo the last few months. Wasn't much of a choice on my part.

Hope to resume in full swing shortly, I appreciate the patience and commitment to the project you've all shown in my absence. Be well, I shall return soon :)

I assume you got my email then, right.

GitHub is actually pretty simple. Everything is pretty straightforward and I have a lot of experience with it. I might recommend you add some admins with it, so when you are away, there is someone else to take over for awhile.

I talked about this in the email I sent, but I will say it here. Consider making 2 Winapp2 files, one for CCleaner and 1 for all other cleaners. That way, when you remove entries for CCleaner, people can download the one for CCleaner, while the other cleaners don't lose their cleaning abilities. Sorry, I know we are not aloud to talk about other cleaners, but it is a good idea to do.

Anyways, no need to apologize for anything. You don't owe us anything and it's not like you are getting paid for it, you know other then donations.

I did get your email I believe :) The idea has been brought up before in this thread, and I think it's a good idea to decentralize things to a degree this way you guys don't get left hanging :) We'll chat more soon
