gym1
I just dowloaded speccy 1.05.183 and while viewing my graphics I get a runtime error. Should I remove it and try to download it again or what? Thanks. speccy.doc

kroozer
gym, I could not open your speccy.doc with any program on my home pc so I just guessed it was the runtime error issue we often see here and that's usually the cure. Am sorry it failed to fix, but hopefully another member can provide a solution. Have a good day.
Moderators Nergal Posted September 24, 2010 Moderators Share Posted September 24, 2010 Gym please run speccy in debug mode to do this do the following 1) from your start menu go to run (or type the following into the start menu search box) 2) Type CMD and press enter 3) a black cmd prompt (old scool MSDOS) box will open 4) type c:\program files\piriform\speccy\speccy.exe /debug (where c:\program files\piriform\speccy\ is the replaced bhy the folder where you have the speccy program) and press enter 5) check off only analyse video data and Update Video data 6) go to graphics and see if you get the crash 7) if you do then go to the speccy folder (i.e. C:\program files\piriform\speccy) attach the two created files (they'll have names like Speccy_log[1_05_183][24-9-2010_14-6].txt and Speccy.exe_24-9-2010_20-6-41.dmp) to this thread. The Developers will have a look at these files (you don't need to read them they'll be gibberish to you, most likly) If you do not get a crash doing this keep running the debug adding one check mark at a time to the debug until you do get the crash and upload those files along with telling us which checkbox caused the crash ADVICE FOR USING CCleaner'S REGISTRY INTEGRITY SECTION DON'T JUST CLEAN EVERYTHING THAT'S CHECKED OFF. Bruce Butler
I just loaded Speccy 1.05.183 and when I ran it I got the C++ runtime error. Installing "Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package (x86)" did not help. Using the excellent instructions above by "Nergal" to run in /debug mode, I quickly determined that Speccy was stumbling on the "Hard Drives" step. This computer has 2 physical hard drives. The primary drive is 150GB and has 2 partitions. The secondary drive is only 6GB has 1 partition. I have had problems in the past with this second drive; I previously had to disable the service that checks on drive health. Can't even remember how I did that now. I suspect that this drive is dying. I use it only for temporary files. This drive is a Western Digital WDC AC36400L. I need to open the computer and physically pull the drive out and toss it! To make a long story short, for now I went into Device Manager and disabled drive #2. Now, Speccy runs just fine with no C++ runtime error. I have attached the 3 log files that were created in /debug mode. The dump file is huge; 53.4MB and will not fit within the 1.95MB max file size. gym1
Did you get my last reply? This is difficult to follow but am trying..
gym1
It appears to me that it(the reply) did not make it. So will try again this way. I did try in cmd mode and sent the following: C:\documents and settings\Hp_Owner>c:\program files\piriform\speccy\speccy.exe \debug This is not recognized as a batch file. So now what?? Moderators Nergal Posted September 27, 2010 Moderators Share Posted September 27, 2010 @gym your slash is facing the wrong direction it should be (as above) c:\program files\piriform\speccy\speccy.exe /debug @Bruce, the developers, who monitor every post of this board will look at your logs and should be able to tweak speccy based on them ADVICE FOR USING CCleaner'S REGISTRY INTEGRITY SECTION DON'T JUST CLEAN EVERYTHING THAT'S CHECKED OFF. gym1
I am using backslash at the beggining and slash at the end I.E.: C:\program files\speccy\speccy.exe /debug '\program' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program batch file is the response I receive. ??? Moderators Nergal Posted October 12, 2010 Moderators Share Posted October 12, 2010 you can use http://drop.io and link it here. and the developers will look at your dump ADVICE FOR USING CCleaner'S REGISTRY INTEGRITY SECTION DON'T JUST CLEAN EVERYTHING THAT'S CHECKED OFF. gym1
Ok, I have used drop.io, so I will try to attach it again..I see that it reads "upload skipped(this file was too big to upload". Now what?
Moderators Nergal Posted October 12, 2010 Moderators Share Posted October 12, 2010 drop.io gave you upload skipped? if so if you wait a bit, the developers may contact you if they need the dump if not what I meant was to paste the link drop.io gives you to the thread (note a few posts ago Mr. Ron said they'd look into what is causing this so they may have enough information already) ADVICE FOR USING CCleaner'S REGISTRY INTEGRITY SECTION DON'T JUST CLEAN EVERYTHING THAT'S CHECKED OFF. gym1
No drop io did not say that as I attached the upload to this reply but on the reply it gave me upload skipped as it was too big to load. Also, MrRon's reply was back on 9-27 and no reply from him yet. ???
Moderators Nergal Posted October 13, 2010 Moderators Share Posted October 13, 2010 well, bug testing does take time the drop.io link is what needs to be attached http://drop.io/fobsber like that (only you attach the dump I don't have a dump to attach) ADVICE FOR USING CCleaner'S REGISTRY INTEGRITY SECTION DON'T JUST CLEAN EVERYTHING THAT'S CHECKED OFF.
