Dup File Finder

New to CCleaner.  I have one question. I've looked over many of the discussions and FAQs but could not find an answer. My question is this:

When running dupe file finder I get a report with many of the same files, but different paths. Some a lot alike and some not. Does it matter which dupe(s) I delete? Or should I leave them alone....leaving them alone seems for defeat the purpose of the application.  I certainly don't want to start removing a mess of files only to cause myself more problems.

Looking for a little guidance...if I've asked in the wrong place...please guide me to the right place or if you have then answer please let me know.

Thanks

Leave them alone UNLESS you know which dups you don't need. Good dup suggestions are music (such as mp3s) photos (such as jpg) documents (such as ms word files). Bad dup suggestions are system or program files (such as exe , dll and sys).

ADVICE FOR USING CCleaner'S REGISTRY INTEGRITY SECTION

DON'T JUST CLEAN EVERYTHING THAT'S CHECKED OFF.

Do your Registry Cleaning in small bits (at the very least Check-mark by Check-mark)

ALWAYS BACKUP THE ENTRY, YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT YOU'LL BREAK IF YOU DON'T.

G'day TimeNuff,

I've split your post into it's own, more appropriate thread.

as to your duplicate results, sadly, you are in a better position than us to identify which files are the 'original' and which are 'copies'.

if you want to take a screenshot showing a bunch, we may be able to guide you further.

but any removal of duplicates is not to be taken lightly, just because a filename is repeated does not mean the file is a duplicate.

many system files have the same name, for example, index.dat but live in different folders and are used by different programs.

at least make sure you have a current backup of your PC before you proceed.

Backup now & backup often.
It's your digital life - protect it with a backup.
Three things are certain; Birth, Death and loss of data. You control the last.
