Still no shader model 6.0. Wonder when they are ever going to release that.

The DPI scale improvements look nice. Sometimes Windows 10 scales desktop too small, while windows will be too big, like Steam for example, is too big, while the desktop is actually perfect.

The gaming mode sounds interesting. Not sure what exactly it will do, but I think it's pretty much the same as running in high performance, while maybe shutting off notifications and some windows services that are not needed to run during gaming.

I hope they added back the ability to remove the lock screen on boot up, as currently it only removes it if you lock your system.

I think windows 10 is the best OS they have made yet, with the exception of one major flaw, I cannot stand that they do not allow users to turn off windows update. (especially hardware updates) I only had issues with this a few times when windows 10 first came out but I'm still waiting for the day my graphics driver or network driver failed because microsoft updated them without telling me.

Other than that I have really enjoyed windows 10. On a modern PC its fast, stable, and gets out of the way. I like the modern looking interface and the fact that it no longer relies on that terrible start screen from 8.

True, but I bet there will be a few more little bugfix updates before the actual release date.

Biggest issue I see is folk shutting down their machine if the update takes too long to install (configuring etc) then wondering why there is a problem :)

Disable automatic updates: http://www.markspcsolution.com/2014/11/disable-automatic-update-in-windows-10.html

I also don't like how they auto update hardware with no easy option to disable.

Win 10 pro users will be able to defer updates for up to 35 days I believe, also driver updates.

The only Home edition change is to change the active hours for rebooting after a Win Update to 18 hours.

Control panel will no longer be available via right-clicking on start , but you'll still be able to create a desktop shortcut for it from System 32.

By default instead of cmd prompt it will be Powershell, however cmd will still be available if wanted

Lucky, I have Windows 10 Enterprise LTSB N edition, so I can do whatever I want to my Windows 10, haha.

You can also look some tweaking tools, like "Ultimate Windows Tweaker 4.0" and "Winaero Tweaker".

Microsoft will launch the Windows 10 Creators Update via the Windows Update Assistant tomorrow, and this means that users will be able to download and install the new operating system version on their PCs without having to wait until April 11 when it’s published on Windows Update.

The manual update is now available and working (only a day late which isn't bad for Microsoft).

I did the update yesterday. The first thing I tried was the new "Game mode". It didn't really seem to improve much. In fact some games actually played worst with it on, but only like 1-3fps difference for them all. It really need some more tweaks/improvements. I heard it was really mostly designed for Store games.

I noticed both Windows updates and Windows Defender are now faster. No more waiting for 5 minutes just to check for updates. As for Windows Defender, looks like they combined Smart Screen, Action Center, and Windows Defender into one. I guess in time, they will fully combine it with Windows Firewall, too, but I didn't anything real different within all of them, other then they are all in one place now and GUI/UI changes.

I guess now they  made almost all of the built in apps able to be uninstalled now and no longer have to worry about them being reinstalled every update.

Other then those, nothing else special or useful, at least for me. Hopefully some performance enhancements will come later.

I haven't updated yet but this was something I was hoping could be a decent improvement, alas almost everything I've read seems to indicate it isn't but having said that everything I've read uses FPS as the metric (which don't get me wrong, it does makes sense to do so).  The thing is I'm not really hoping for any kind of FPS improvement what I'm hoping for is more a reliability improvement, in that it pauses or shuts down the damn task scheduler.

They're the thing that annoy me when gaming, playing away nice and happy then suddenly some task decides to happen, and the disk drive gets all busy and I get game stuttering and the real kicker, controls lock and/or freeze until the task finishes then it's all good again.  Any gamer knows that even though this may only last anywhere around 2 to 20 seconds, it's too long when it's 2 seconds and unacceptable at 20 seconds (why the hell is the store looking to see if store apps have updates available more than once a day anyway ?) - end rant.

The game mode is suppose to shut off all notifications, except for really important ones, like malware detection or something. It's also suppose to set your CPU to high priority and increase GPU cycles. Some patches I guess can improve it more, but I guess another issue is maybe a lot of games aren't optimized to run your CPU and GPU priorities at above normal levels and that maybe what causes the FPS drops. It's just a guess considering that the only games I have seen that saw an improvement were Microsoft related games.

finally got CU, and took the opportunity to upgrade the PC hardware and fresh install CU.

my only 'negative' so far is the buggers have removed Control Panel from the power menu (Win+X).

Backup now & backup often.

I never used the power menu, but it's still in the start menu under "Windows System".

Yeah, doesn't affect me as I use StartIsBack (since Win8 days).

But  Power Menu has become my favourite keyboard shortcut.

Also, I see 15063.13 has just come out, what's that 1 day!

Ya, that came out on the 5th, day 1 patch, I guess. You would think they wouldn't really need a day 1 patch after they pulled the update for a whole month.

I have also seen some saying that they have 15063.14.

(It's not clear though if thats a new patch,or the difference between Home/Pro builds, or maybe USA/Rest of the World builds?)

I've only come across one glitch/clash up to now;

If you run Junkware Removal Tool (JRT) in Creators update you can't see the JRT report file that opens automatically in Notepad, and it messes up the notepad display until you restart your PC (No text visible at all in notepad, not even in the menus or dialogue boxes).

The developer of JRT has been informed.

I just figured the .14 was some sort of Insider Preview, Fast Ring thing.

Has anyone else noticed that with NumLock on (set in the BIOS and with the LED on), that when you reboot Win10 with CU, it doesn't come back on?

has happened on 2 of my home PC's I've updated.

Update to my previous post-

It's not just notepad that is affected; EVERY programme I have tried, as well as Internet Explorer, and EDGE (but not Firefox for some reason) gets it's display corrupted after running JRT in the Creators Update.

A reset or reboot of the computer puts things right again.

The JRT developer is looking at it. But for now I wouldn't run JRT or at least do a reboot straight after.

MTA,

I have NumLock on all the time and have not noticed that problem, it's still on afetr every boot.

Good heads up on JRT nukecad.

Will follow the thread over at the MBAM forums.

I assume from that you have JRT yourself, have  you tried running it in CU?

It would be nice to know it's not just my machine that is doing this.

As I say a restart cures it, I've done it ten or so times while testing the effects, but I understand if you don't feel like taking the risk.

As I said over at MBAM I reckon it's to do with the change of emphasis from command window to powershell in the creators update, but we'll see what the developer says.
