Jaysds1
Hi, I just wanted to let you know that, when I run the CCleaner and the "Empty Recycle Bin" is check the CCleaner still doesn't clean/empty the recycle bin. This has been happening since the last update. And the problem goes for Windows XP and Windows 7.
Moderators hazelnut Posted August 3, 2012 Moderators Share Posted August 3, 2012 Having no problem like that here. Is it everything in the recycle bin it is not cleaning? How much do you have in the bin? Any huge files? Does the bin empty if you empty it yourself as opposed to using ccleaner? jcornix
Hello, I can confirm Jaysds1's observation. If there are deleted files in the recycle bin, ccleaner since the last update does not delete them anymore. The recycle bin can still be emptied by the respective context menu ("Empty Recycle Bin") of the bin itself though. The ccleaner behaviour is independent of size and number of files in the recycle bin. Unticking and ticking the corresponding control box in ccleaner did not help either. It also did not help to run ccleaner as administrator. Version I use: ccleaner portable, v3.21.1767 (64-bit). Windows version: 64-bit SP1 with all MS Updates applied. Kristopher
I can also confirm this bug on Windows 7 64bit.

Alan_B
ACL's are weird and wonderful things. Using Cacls or iCacls you can impose perhaps two dozen restrictions additional to Read Only. Is it possible that some files or folders may have an ACL which prevents Secure Deletion or "Delete into Free Space", but does permit a "delete into recycle bin" which is some sort of directory pointer shuffle ? latimer
I also observerd this strange behaviour. I ran ccleaner from r-click of my recycle bin and after ccleaner was done the recycle bin still not showed the "empty" icon. So I ran ccleaner again but no change. Then I r-clicked and selected "empty recycle bin" and windows asked me if I wanted to delete 2 files. I approved and the files were gone. I am running v3.21.1767 on w7 64 Lenovo Thinkpad. Update: I just installed v3.22.1800(64-bit) and the problem is still there
Jaysds1
Sorry, I've been kinda busy, ummm, yes I only have one account on the computer, so baically I have admin, plus I delete normal items like .txt files and .lua files, even folders, but nothing is being removed from it. Having no problem like that here. Is it everything in the recycle bin it is not cleaning? How much do you have in the bin? Any huge files? Does the bin empty if you empty it yourself as opposed to using ccleaner? ya, everything in the recycle bin is not being deleted, I usually have between 10 - 20 items in the recycle bin. Most of them are just 1-20 MB Files
Alan_B
20 MB *.txt files may be normal for you, but I have never seen one. *.lua is something I have never before encountered. http://www.file-extensions.org/lua-file-extension That suggests to me that *.lua may :- be subject to "automatic incremental garbage collection" ; and may originate from games which may be supervised by Steam or Adobe ExtendScript ( I wish I could get rid of Adobe Flash ) Questions If you start with an empty recycle bin and then use Notepad or similar to create short files with extensions such as .TXT and .LST, and then delete those files to the recycle bin, can CCleaner remove those files from the recycle bin ? If you download from FileHippo the version of CCleaner that last worked well for you, can that still empty the recycle bin as before ?

Falconx1
Hello to all, As I am quite new to this forum, I wanted to let everyone know I've found a cure to the issue that even I encountered. I am also running a 64 bit rig, and was annoyed by this as well, thinking it was a bug, when it clearly was a setting. Here is the fix for CCleaner not emptying the recycle bin, as it was annoying, but a really simple fix: Follow these instruction for CCleaner to empty your recycle bin: 1. Open CCleaner 2. Click options tab 3. Click advanced tab 4. Click on the 2 box options to UNCHECK -- BOX 1= Only delete files in Windows Temp folders older than 24 hours BOX 2= Only delete files in Recycle Bin older than 24 hours After UNchecking these options, will allow for CCleaner to clean your recycle bin. I hope this helps! ENJOY CCleaner, as it is a WONDERFUL program, that not only works, but is still free. Keep up the good work Piriform Team! Roy W
Since updating to the latest version 4.19.4867, I too have been having the same problem that the recycle bin does not empty and you must do it manually. Previous version did not have this problem
adarrow2
Had the same problem in Windows 10. This is because you have a corrupt waste bin. You will need to remove the waste bin and rebooting will restore a new waste bin.
