Hi oscles, and welcome to Piriform.

I assume from the wording of your post that you're talking about one Zip file in particular and not Zip files in general, so I think your best bet will be having a try with "DiskInternals ZIP Repair 1.1".

It's right at the bottom of this page under "Freeware Products".

http://www.diskinternals.com/download/

This is the only program with which I've personally had success in repairing a faulty Zip file, and I tried a few products.

Make sure the Zip file is showing at or near it's correct size and not 0 bytes, and it may work for you also.

You don't say which OS your using, but I believe it will work with all, although the site states up to Win 8.1

Hope that helps, and good luck.

:)

does your compressed file have a .ZIP or .RAR or some other known compression extension?

does it have a default application associated to it that is capable of opening compressed files, like 7Zip or WInZip and not, say, Word?

if one extraction software fails, try another.  7Zip is very good, small and free.

also try right clicking the zipped file and using the inbuilt Windows extraction process.

Backup now & backup often.

Have a look here

http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/8486-default-file-associations-restore-windows-8-a.html

 1. Click/tap on the link of the file extension type or protocol in the table below that you would like to restore the default associations of to download it's .reg file.

2. Save the .reg file to your desktop.

3. Double click/tap on the downloaded .reg file to Merge it.

4. If prompted, click/tap on Run, Yes (UAC), Yes, and OK to approve the merge.

The .zip file one is the last in the list.

Have you tried to open your file on another computer? Or try 7-zip and see if that works for you.

Also there are a lot of programs which repair all types of compressed files. For example Zip Fix Toolbox

Here the link [LINK REMOVED BY MODERATION]

Good luck!

I removed the link in the post above, not enough public information exists about the linked site (no WoT, not many links outside set-up posts). Sorry if it's legit, but it sure doesn't look like it.

Why did you delete it? I just wanted to help.

Because, the given name is enough if the OP wants to follow-up on it, but the link, with it's unknown qualities (which I clearly spelled out) seems sketchy enough for me to consider it unsafe to have the link here on public forum. If you can provide me some proofs that it is safe, I'll allow you to repost it.

Problem here is the file has nothing in it to unzip It tells your the problem already. And it doesn't sounds like a Winzip problem.

This tool Zip Fix Toolbox [LINK REMOVED BY MODERATION] is recommended on these sites too

I literally just said in the post before yours I didn't want the link to zipfix in the forum until proof it's a safe site. I've again removed the link.

Edit: Especially as there are now at least 3 different links to this software and all are different.

I also removed the 2 links above

The first is a single (spammy) answer on a reddit (where anybody can post)

And the other is instructables and the references come from 2 different (again spammy) responses (that anybotty(sic) can post)

To the original poster, I'd follow the advice given by moderators (and long time helpers like MTA) before attempting to find/use the (seemingly spammy) fixtoolbox zipfix.

I welcome, reputable, information to make me trust these posts, but I've yet to see it.

@pinero9053 i'm giving you the benefit of doubt and not banning you, but it sure looks like you made 2 meaningless posts in order to post your links. Try to do better, or be considered a spammer.

K thx bye

So if you want to repair corrupted archive, you can try to use WinRAR.

Step 1: Run WinRAR and in address bar, navigate to the location where the corrupted archive is saved.

Step 2: Select corrupted RAR or ZIP file. Click Repair button in tool bar, and choose “Repair archiver” if there is a drop-down list.

Step 3: Then a new dialog would pop up. There you can choose the location where you want to save the archive after repairment. Confirm settings and click OK.

Step 4: After 100% repairing corrupted archive, go to the folder you choose to save repaired archive, and find the file named _rebuilt.rar or _rebuilt.zip. This file is the repaired archive file you want.So if you want to repair corrupted archive, you can try to use WinRAR.
