Complete disk wipe?

Under TOOLS>DRIVE WIPE>WIPER> CCleaner gives you the option of wiping "Entire Drive" yet when I make this selection, the C: drive as well as the WIPE button are greyed out. I want to completely clean the hard drive on a computer that I will be donating. Will this program do that? How to I get it to work, please?

You can't wipe the entire drive when the windows system is running from it, ccleaner needs windows to remain in place and not be erased while running. System drive can have its freespace wiped but not erased as it causes a paradox.

ADVICE FOR USING CCleaner'S REGISTRY INTEGRITY SECTION

DON'T JUST CLEAN EVERYTHING THAT'S CHECKED OFF.

Do your Registry Cleaning in small bits (at the very least Check-mark by Check-mark)

ALWAYS BACKUP THE ENTRY, YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT YOU'LL BREAK IF YOU DON'T.

Hi weybrew,

you will either need to remove the drive and connect it to another PC and re-format it, or if it has to remain in-situ, you could reload Windows and part of that process allows you to delete the partition and re-format the drive.

with the former, you can do a low-level or quick format, with the later (from memory) only a quick format is available.

it'll all depend on how sensitive your data was.

Backup now & backup often.
It's your digital life - protect it with a backup.
Three things are certain; Birth, Death and loss of data. You control the last.
