Unintall program - Select ALL registry left-overs in one click ?

I'm a new member on this foruim. First, I used the (very well hidden) 'search' box to find a solution to following problem. Maybe it has been asked before, but I couldn' find such topic. If so, please excuse me for explaining the same problem once more.

Using CCleaner to uninstall a program, I usually go for the option to clean registry left-overs.

I did this recently when uninstalling my current Java program (the normal 'update' to latest Java was not working). CCleaner scanned the registry and found over more than 2000 left-over entries, showed in BOLDED charachters. However, it looks as the entries to delete (shown bold) are impossible to select in one single mouse click.

The 'SELECT ALL' option takes indeed ALL entries , including 'higher' positioned items, not being shown in bold charachters. In the example of uninstalling my current Java program, I had to select about 2020 registry items manually, ONE by ONE !

This is not the first time that I'm forced to apply this stupid method. Is there no possibility to select ONLY the actually related items (in bold) ? I mean to select all the detected items, showed in bold charachters, ignoring all others ?

I'm aware that we should check carefully each item before select it, and that's maybe the reason why it can't be done in one single click. But on the other hand, to work like I did, is a crazy stupid job.

I'm probably missing something here. By selecting some (not bolded) entry, in a higher position in the tree structure, one could select maybe hundreds of 'true' related entries. But other not-related entries (not bolded) would also be included ; not exactly what we want to do !

Thank you

You can select one item and then use the scroll bar if you wish to see a different region,

and then hold down the SHIFT key whilst you select another item.

That will highlight both those items and everything in-between.

Then you can toggle the checkbox for one of these items and the other checkboxes will also toggle

Hi Merel, and welcome to the forum.

CCleaner just runs a programs own uninstaller, and the scan for registry items is a separate process which by default simply lists all registry items to remove, already checked.

Leastways it does on my XP system.

It sounds as if you were explaining the uninstall process of "Revo Uninstaller", which does give you options to clean registry entries as part of the uninstall. And the items to be removed are in bold type.

I use Revo, and pressing the "Select All" button doesn't remove anything but the bolded items. It doesn't remove all the stages down the "tree" which are checked with the "Select All" option.

If I'm way off with this, your CCleaner is doing something it doesn't do for me.

CCleaner Registry Scan:

Revo Uninstaller (with "Select All" chosen):

It definitely sounds like your describing Revo, and I now press the "Add Reply" button with trepidation as I have been known to be way off beam before.

Can you make it clear Merel that you are not talking about Revo here because as Dennis points out CCleaner doesn't offer to remove the reg entries of a program you have just uninstalled.

Perhaps it is just the way you have phrased things that have lead us to misunderstand you?

  • 4 years later...

I honnestly apologize to everyone who had the courtesy to help me on this topic. I know, It is way too late and I'm ashamed.

I probably had more very serious problems on my mind at that time, because it has never been my usual behaving.

Actually I don't appreciate at all when some people start a topic, but don't care to come back. Again, thank you and please forgive me

Hi Merel, and welcome back to the forum.

There's a old saying ... "better late than never", and in this case you must have made a Piriform Forum record with your four and a half years later update.

I can't see that being beaten, ever.

But please don't feel ashamed as we have posters for whom we give up hours of our free time, go to great lengths to help, and then they just disappear with not so much as a thank you, and without us ever knowing as to whether their problem was solved.

So a thank you to you for taking the trouble to come back, albeit a little while down the road.

And just in case we don't see you again until 2020 ... were you talking about Revo and not CCleaner?
