barge
I am a regular downloader and user of ccleaner. I installed version 5.00.5050. After running it, I found all my recent document lists in MS Word and Excel 2007 were deleted. Even the pinned MRU's were deleted. I never had this problem in the past because I had deselected the deletion of Windows Explorer MRU's for many ccleaner versions before this, but now the new version ignores those settings. Was the deletion of Office MRU's added to ccleaner 5.0? Must I now separately deselect "Office 2007" under applications? Does that item not refer to temporary Office files or does it also refer to MRU's. This is an unwelcome change if it is being implemented without explanation. Thanks. barge
I have experimentally found by individually running the cleanup for "Office 2007" that it deletes the entire contents of the "C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Application Data\Microsoft\Office\Recent\" folder. Piriform needs to change the description on their items to explain WHAT is actually cleaned up under the "Applications" items. Is it just MRU documents or something more? I do not clear MRU's. For example, Piriform should say "Office 2007 MRU's", not just "office 2007", so I can deselect it. EDIT: Yes I would like Office temporary files cleared, but recent documents actually serve a purpose. Until there is such an option, I'll have to deselect such application cleanups altogether. Ashburton
I quite agree. I do not want my list of Recent Files deleted in either Word, Excel or similar applications as these are very useful. Could we please have an option to retain them?
Moderators Nergal Posted December 9, 2014 Moderators Share Posted December 9, 2014 Add the above named folder to your excludes (under options in ccleaner I believe), this will allow you to clean the temp files but not the MRU ADVICE FOR USING CCleaner'S REGISTRY INTEGRITY SECTION DON'T JUST CLEAN EVERYTHING THAT'S CHECKED OFF. Do your Registry Cleaning in small bits (at the very least Check-mark by Check-mark) ALWAYS BACKUP THE ENTRY, YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT YOU'LL BREAK IF YOU DON'T. Goldenbarstewart
I am constantly having to reinstall Office 365 because after using CCleaner, some file or folder, I believe in Internet Explorer, which contains Word system files, is deleted. I get the message, "Word Cannot Create the work file ..." or "Word cannot open the existing file.(C:\Users\count\AppData\...\Normal.dotm)." Moderators mta Posted February 15, 2017 Moderators Share Posted February 15, 2017 although not the same problem as the title, being an old thread, I'm sure the OP won't be back any time soon... so what have you tried turning off in CC so far to fix this? have you unticked all the Office products listed in the Applications tab? have you Analysed first and then cleaned each category separately then tried Office until you find the one that breaks it? Backup now & backup often. It's your digital life - protect it with a backup.Three things are certain; Birth, Death and loss of data. You control the last.
