ccleaner won't open after install

Hello All,     I couldn't get the latest ccleaner update so I uninstalled it and when I reinstalled it in my applications folder and double clicked on the icon it flashes like it's opening but the ccleaner window doesn't come up on my screen. I'm using a macbook with 10.6.8 Snow Leopard. Is my Os X no longer supported ? Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Peace, Rich @ tylersdad2000@yahoo.com

Hi arrgee, and welcome to Piriform.

You are not alone with this problem ...

https://forum.piriform.com/index.php?showtopic=46657

I've moved your topic to the CCleaner For Mac section, and as we're mostly Windows users on this forum I'll point the CCleaner devs here and hopefully they'll throw light on what the issue is exactly.

Hope that helps.

:)

Hello Tom, I was able to download vers. 1.13.339 from File Hip., Thanks, but again, when I did the update for vers. 1.13.442 it seems to install but then it doesn't open and run. I've got ClamXAv loaded and running so I don't know if CC's latest vers. has an issue with it? Thanks for the help in advance, I appreciate it! Peace, Rich

Remove any CCleaner entries from:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options\

Malware uses a registry trick to prevent certain apps from opening. The Windows Registry Editor may be affected as well, in which case you'll need to copy C:\Windows\System32\regedt32.exe to the Desktop, rename it, then run it.

Some executables that appear in that section need to be there, so don't delete them. Delete only what you're unable to start.

@viveiros,

don't forget, this is the Mac thread.  :)

I am running Snow Leopard. I have CCleaner 1.14.451 but it won't run. I tried to use the app Posted 19 July 2016 - 04:43 AM.

When I try to put the app in my application folder, it says a newer item named CCleaner already exists in this location. Do you want to replace it with the older one you're moving? I click 'Replace' and it says "The operation can't be completed becuase the item "MainMenu.nib" is in use. I have no idea what that is and have never seen this comment before.

How do I fix this and get back to being able to use CCleaner on my computer? It used to work all the time and now it refuses to open.

Thank you.

Hi alice, and welcome to the forum.

"MainMenu.nib" in use suggests that the user interface for CCleaner is still running, but being a Windows user as probably all the members here are, that's an educated guess.

Your OS should be compatible with CCleaner according to the docs page ...

CCleaner for Mac requires an Apple Mac running OS X 10.6 to 10.11 El Capitan.

I would suggest removing CCleaner completely and then reinstalling it, but to be sure I'll point the devs to this post and see what they say, so watch this space.

Hope that helps.

:)
