Update 531 wouldn't update.

Recommended Posts

After using CC for years without any problems I'm suddenly confronted with the fact I'm left without any CC version at all!

When I opened CC half an hour agoI got the message regarding update 531, and so I did what I always do.

But when it came to the install, I kept on getting the message along the line of there being an error (in the download?), and got the choice between, abort, retry, or ignore. Number 2 got me nowhere, neither did ignoring it. So I did something stupid, thinking it may be the reason of not installing (dumbass), not only did I de-install the 530 update, I removed CC entirely from my PC, in order to download CC from scratch. Did it work? Of course not! Repeat of earlier problem. Then I tried to recycle my old CC from the bin with the 530 update, again repeated annoyance. I did notice that the icon has changed, a little square or something instead of the usual C, was that supposed to be? Anyway, now CC is completely removed, and I can't get it back on my laptop, that is, I can go as far as somekind(!) of download, by "ignoring" the error of the download, but opening that sucker is like pulling teeth from a chicken. Anyone got some bright ideas? I'm a W10 user.

From where are you downloading CC, AFAIK no such change in icon happened, I worry that you're using a non-official downloading site

ADVICE FOR USING CCleaner'S REGISTRY INTEGRITY SECTION

DON'T JUST CLEAN EVERYTHING THAT'S CHECKED OFF.

Do your Registry Cleaning in small bits (at the very least Check-mark by Check-mark)

ALWAYS BACKUP THE ENTRY, YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT YOU'LL BREAK IF YOU DON'T.

Just a quickie, I'm already running late.

I downloaded it as usual by agreeing to update when the message popped up while opening CC, taking me to the Piriform website, showing me the proposed (paid) upgrade column with all the extra options, theoretically thanking them but declining to do so, and opting for the Manual Update of the Free Version; then I got redirected to File Hippo (a change that's been made some time ago and isn't one I can appreciate much), instead of giving me the choice between downloading via Piriform and File Hippo: in the past I always chose Piriform to do so, cause I prefer to download from an original website, ie, the creator's website).

Anyway, everything it usually takes, except getting that pesky remark of some error/fault during the (attempted!) install. Since it was the middle of the night, and I need my beauty sleep, :lol:  I left it for the time being and not risk getting hyper. The only left to try is trying to do the install with a closed browser, and/or doing this in in Safety Mode (which was mentioned somewhere on the forum)..

I really have to fly now but,  I'll be back! Hasta la vista baby... ~Jennie~

Since the installers aren't working for you, and many other people have also been reporting the same issue for several months now you may want to switch to only using the Portable version from now on. With the Portable version you do have to manually unzip it to a folder of your choice to use it, say perhaps:

* C:\PortableApps\CCleanerPortable

* Then if you're on 64-bit Windows create a shortcut that points to CCleaner64.exe, and name the shortcut CCleaner Portable.

* If you're on 32-bit Windows create a shortcut that points to CCleaner.exe, and name the shortcut CCleaner Portable.

The Portable version is available at: https://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/builds

Like I've stated in a previous topic back in May I've had no issues using the Portable version on Windows 10, or any other OS for that matter.
