vsfan Posted March 16, 2016 Share Posted March 16, 2016 have tried to recover deleted directory tree from usb stick, recuva reported, that files are unrecoverable due to they are overwritten, by ........ the files from the same deleted directory tree, this is fat32 filesystem, so the files have gone, so time for experiment, in next step I writed a directory tree to the stick, copied the whole tree to HDD just to be sure the files were correctly written, deleted the directory tree, and tried to recover, the same - files are unrecoverable Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Moderators Augeas Posted March 17, 2016 Moderators Share Posted March 17, 2016 This is probably because on file deletion the FAT32 file system sets the first two bytes of the data cluster address to zero. Thus Recuva (and any other software) will look at the wrong cluster address. A deep scan might find the file but will only find the first fragment. As your files are relatively large they are likely to be fragmented, so this will be unsuccessful. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
