Restore Files missed under Tools Option for CC v5.35.6210

I am running the above version on a Windows XP-Pro system...

Recently CCleaner stopped showing me what Restore Files I have...

It spins a while and comes up with a blank page...

I have read previous discussions on this topic which go back 2 years,

and have applied the recommended solution. It didn't work.

The manifestation of this particular problem is very recent for me.

Suggestions?

Wes T.

g'day Wes and welcome to the forum.

So what have you tried?

I'm assuming you have deleted all previous Restore Points from Control Panel, System and then created a new one?

Backup now & backup often.

Thanx for the welcome!

I have verified that I DID have Restore Files on hand.

In fact I did that via seperate avenues; including with Defraggler

which gives us X-ray vision when we know WHAT WE ARE TRYING TO SPOT... eh!

Also removed all Restore Files and created new ones.

I have also reinstalled the version of CC-leaner that I was using ...

AND I have tested that same version two other machines...

< one running Win 8.2 , the other Win 10 >

All is well eXcePt on the XP machine...

Yeah I know it is a wee dated, but my partner LOVES IT! I just maletain it...

I have not had a chance on the XP machine today

as said partner is hammering out loads of e-mail.

apologies if retracing steps you have already tried, but I don't know if you have already attempted the following or what was advised in that other thread...

so... I would go into Control Panel, System, get to your Restore Points and hit Delete, then set it to Disable, OK, and reboot the PC.

go back into Control Panel and set Max Usage to 1% (and re-enable of course).

reboot again, go back in and create a Restore Point.

does CC see it now?

what about from another User Profile?

as to some history, I personally set the whole Restore Points stuff to off on all my PC's.

when it comes to system recovery, they are very limited, and with personal data, they are completely irrelevant.

granted, they can sometimes get the PC to start after say a dodgy driver update and things like that.

but they are not substitute at all for doing personal backups and/or system images.

to give a real world example, I've tried them dozens and dozens of times to help get a PC recovered, and maybe twice have they helped.

when they haven't helped, it's a fresh reinstall of Windows.....

Backup now & backup often.

Fwiw, I just installed CCleaner Free 5.35.6210 on this win xp home machine.

Then did all of mta's steps except deleting the existing restore points and disabling system restore.

- CCleaner found all the restore points that were shown by system restore, 6 of them.

- Then I created 2 more restore points and when I restarted CCleaner it found them also.

I have no idea how to troubleshoot this, so will bow out, but maybe the above info will be useful.

The CCleaner SLIM version is always released a bit after any new version; when it is it will be HERE :-)

Pssssst: ... It isn't really a cloud. Its a bunch of big, giant servers.

is your WMI service running, this is often a cause of this

ADVICE FOR USING CCleaner'S REGISTRY INTEGRITY SECTION

DON'T JUST CLEAN EVERYTHING THAT'S CHECKED OFF.

Do your Registry Cleaning in small bits (at the very least Check-mark by Check-mark)

ALWAYS BACKUP THE ENTRY, YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT YOU'LL BREAK IF YOU DON'T.
